There are a lot of things in this June edition that I would love to go over. I’m sure you all miss the 200 daily mock drafts but this will have to do. First, I’ll go over Tamba Hali and some of my thoughts along with some AP member thoughts. Then I’ll talk about our “feared” rival the Chargers. I also want to give you a good perspective from a Ravens fan about our beloved Chiefs. I will then give some of my hopeful thoughts about this year. I’ll finish up with an interview from our very own Joel Thorman. Sorry, I’m not sure who we’ll pick in 2022 so I won’t even guess.

All About Hali

I’ve heard recently that Hali isn’t a playmaker. I mean seriously? How could you not see all the plays Hali makes? He had his best year last year switching to a different position. To me that just screams dedication and ability. He also is held at just about every play and still gets pressure on the QB. It is slim at pass rusher for us and he is doing his job. I predict he’ll get double digit sacks this year. Now here are some of the thoughts from our very own AP members.

Our LB’s are average except for Tamba Hali, tell your LT to watch out for him. Actually do us a favor, dont tell your LT that.

Stude was cloned?

couldn’t we clone Hali instead :)

And Hali's 2008 Season Was Terrible

Really, really bad. He was not a good defensive lineman without Jared Allen working opposite him. But he’s turned into a very serviceable OLB who’s made himself an asset to the team when few thought he’d be that good, and if that’s not a comeback, I don’t know what is.

San Diego Sucks

You know I admit that the Chiefs haven’t been that great for the last couple of years. I think it’s funny how bad we get made fun of over at Bolts From The Blue. I mean, really? You have the right to laugh at the Chiefs? We might be the butt of the Jokes over there but I laugh at the Chargers more than any other team. I think it’s funny how every year for the past 4 years you guys were predicted to go to the Super Bowl and what happened? Phillip Rivers happened! He is a good quarterback but in the playoffs he chokes. It is like in some weird time paradox he turns into Ryan Leaf. I’d rather have the bar low and disappoint then be a “Super Bowl” team and choke. At least, we can get better while the Chargers will always be Chokers. Ryan Mathews? You guys traded up to get him? He will not have a good year and Eric Berry will show him what it’s like to catch drop a pass in the middle of the field. He’ll also show him why not to run the ball ever again. I think we will come in second in the division behind the Chargers for one more year but of course they’ll choke in the playoffs.

Thoughts From A Ravens Fan

This is a great breakdown of the Chiefs from Mr MaLor over at Baltimore Beatdown. Although, I don’t agree with everything he said I still respect his opinion. Just goes to show you that the Chiefs are making noise to other teams/fans.

In all honesty, I think you guys are moving in the right direction. Of course it is tough to say that your team is going to be competing for a playoff spot this year considering how strong San Diego is and Denver also being a tough team. However, there is definitely some serious talent on your squad.

Offensively, I think you guys have started to create a group that could bring back the true Chief pride. Cassel has the mentality of a winner and has gotten it done for arguably the greatest team to play in the last 3 years. Even though it is a little cliche, Cassel has Tom Brady like attributes. He can is a winner with good mechanics from what I have seen so far.

Your WR are also a group that I think too many people over look. Dwayne Bowe has killed defenses in the past and still is on the up-rise. He is only going to get better with Cassel. Guys like Chis Chambers are good compliments and throw in McCluster and suddenly your passing attack could be dangerous against a team that does not get good enough pass rush.

RB is also a group that is going to be very productive this year. Charles is going to be a very, very good RB in this league. Sort of reminds me of a poor man’s Tomlinson (not an insult). Bringing in a tough veteran like Thomas Jones is also going to help. As much as the NFL has become a passing league, a power back like Jones can really kill a defense when your team has a lead. I think that is exactly what he was brought in to do for you guys.

O-Line is where the weakness is for you all. I think many of you believe Albert might be better suited at Guard and Waters is on the downswing of his career. Other than those guys, I really don’t see alot of positives in your O-Line. Cassel and Charles have promising careers ahead of them, but what good are they going to be if you can’t block from them? Asamoad might step up, but a 3rd round rookie is not going to solve all your problems. Bringing in a veteran like Flozell Adams or even making a deal for our very own Jared Gaither might be a smart move for you all at this time.

As for defense, I think this is also a group that has very much potential. I like the moves that your front office has made over the last few years in the draft. Getting guys like Dorsey and Jackson was a very smart move. Those guys might be better suited at a 4-3 though. Should have solid careers.

LB is a middle of the pack group. Derrick Johnson is another overlooked player on your team. Been a very good LB since coming into the league. I think you guys made a very smart decision in bringing him back. Vrabel is a good stop gap for a few more years, but is not the player he was on NE in my opinion. Hali is solid as well.

In the secondary, first off, Eric Berry is going to run through this league. As a Ravens fan, I have yet to see a prospect come out of college that can even hold a candle to Ed Reed. Berry can. Would not be surprised at all to see this guys finish the season with 6-8 interceptions. You guys got yourself one special player right there. I like Areanas to. Flowers and Carr are also alright, but not great. CB should be a weakness for you all this year.

Overall I think you are looking at a team that will finish anywhere from 7-9 to 9-7. San Diego should be able to take that division fairly easily, but you might give them a run for their money at one point when McDaniels finds out that Tebow is indeed not God. Only 4 of your 16 games are against playoff teams, so that is definitely going to help. Strong coaching staff with Haley, Crennel and Weis. I like that you brought over the pieces from the front office and coaching staff that helped bring New England 3 Superbowls, it could turn out to be a great move for you all.

Good luck in the season. I think the Chiefs are definitely a team that has put itself in a position to steal some games this year and possibly make a huge splash 2-3 years down the road.

Hope?

We all know how bad it can be especially after these last 4 years or so. We all need something to cling onto especially in the offseason. We need a lot of hope. This last year we only won 4 games. We were made fun of around Christmas time and weren’t getting any credit. What happened though in the midst of things? We got a glimpse of what could be especially with a good offseason. We go that hope we needed. Jamaal Charles emerged as the best running back in the last half of the season. Chris Chambers shown he has a few more good years for us. The o-line worked better together. Cassel was getting more time to make decent throws. We killed the Donkeys in our last game of the season. We are 1 for 1 in 2010 everyone! We have hope! We got Thomas Jones to make the best backfield in the NFL. We added some pieces here and there with some solid vets. We got more hope! We drafted Eric Berry, McCluster, and Arenas with our first three picks. This added explosion and some key pieces to our team. We’ve had our best draft in a few years and to me that added a ton of hope! Now, let’s see if we can translate this hope into “knowing” we are better than the other team and are going to win.

1.) What is your favorite thing about Arrowhead Pride?

The community. We all come to hear about the Chiefs but hopefully you're staying because of the community feel.

2.) Who is your favorite Chief of all time?

My favorite Chief of all time is Tony Richardson. He seems to embody everything about what a coach

would want on off the field. He quietly did his job and did it well. I can respect that.

3.) If you could have one player from any of our division rivals who would it be and why? *yes you HAVE to pick one*

Philip Rivers. He puts up insane numbers (but I don't like the guy).

4.) Do you think the Chiefs will reach the playoffs this year?

No. I think they'll be flirting with the playoffs late in the season though.

5.) Who is your second favorite football team? Why?

Jets. Rex Ryan's confidence is pretty awesome.
