I was wasting some time just now, using Stumbleupon, and I came across this article about Abilene Christian OT Tony Washington. He is extremely talented, has great size at 6'6 311 lbs., and was projected by some to go as high as the second round. He participated in the Combine, and his agent, Vann McElroy, says "maybe four teams" said they wouldn't draft him. But the days of the draft ticked away and Tony never heard his name called. And now, weeks after the draft has ended, he still hasn't signed with any team. What gives?
McElroy confirmed to CNBC.com when Washington was 16, he was convicted of having sex with his biological sister. He served two weeks of jail time and received five years of probation and was subsequently registered in Texas as a sex offender.
Wow. He and his agent have apparently been trying to convince teams with testimonials and the like from people that knew him, but I just don't know how you can come back from that. I understand the whole "I was young and dumb" argument, but there's gotta be a line somewhere. Still, he had a spotless record at Abilene Christian, one of the most conservative colleges in the nation, and he would provide quality depth at a position of need. I know there's no way the Chiefs will sign him, and if someone else was going to they probably would have done it by now, but I wonder what you guys think.
If you were Scott Pioli, would you sign Tony Washington?
