Report: Kansas City Chiefs To Sign LB Cory Greenwood
Word on the street is that the Kansas City Chiefs have offered a contract to UDFA LB Cory Greenwood, according to Canadian sports anchor Arash Madani. Don't get confused - the Chiefs already have a DE Bobby Greenwood on the roster. C. Greenwood is the 6'2", 233 linebacker out of the University of Concordia.
Madani was tweeting out some info right after the draft about a few CFL players that NFL teams were looking at so I'm assuming he's in the know a bit. Madan said via his Twitter account.
"[Toronto] Argos 1st rd draft pick Cory Greenwood (3rd overall) has been offered a contract by NFL's KC Chiefs. Worked out today. He'll sign deal tmrw."
The Chiefs were rumored to be negotiating with Greenwood hours after the NFL draft but he never attended a try out or mini-camp.
The usual caveat applies - It's Twitter. So we'll wait and see to make sure but I think Madani is probably right here. Also, as I'm writing this, The Winnipeg press is reporting the same thing. The third overall is in reference to the CFL draft. Greenwood was drafted #3 overall by the Argonauts in early May, after a college career at the University of Concordia.
If signed, Greenwood will be the 86th player on the roster. Three players were signed earlier today.

Like you just did? I saw you fix that headline, Chris! ;)
My long, drawn-out predictions that no one cares about, nor will bother to remember:
1. Todd Haley will still be the Chiefs Head Coach up to the 2011 season.
2. Clancy Pendergast won't make it to the 2010 season and was never intended to. Last-minute hire for a position that needed to be filled.
3. Todd Haley will not be the OC at the start of the 2010 season.
Shhh!

I'm sure the Toronto Argonauts are happy about this
They are kind of left holding the bag.

With everything going on in Cheifland today...
I’m going to guess that this rumor has validity.
I’ll wait for Craig in Calgary to confirm.
Go Chiefs!!!!
no way
Craig is too busy down in his bedroom in mom’s basement with Heather (and that’s a fake window so that he could buy those curtains):

Sounds fine to me
We (LA ) took Greztky and he worked out just fine. Not saying this guy is even near the same level of skill but he must have presented something to attract attention to NFL teams or he is the flavor of the week. My only guess is in the CFL they spread the field more and he may be a candidate to see if he can cover in a 4-3.
You traded for the greatest Hockey player of the modern era
and he worked out fine? That’s saying something…
greatest player
in the entire hockey EPOCH measured in geological time frames, you mean?
New body. Same soul.
If I've said it once, I've said it 1,000 times
Chiefs biggest problem is they don’t have enough Canadians.

Dude this kid has ridiculous footwork

Greenwood
He worked out with a friend of mine at the Parisi Speed School in New Jersey. Guy is the real deal when it comes to his measureables from what i was told…just a freak athletically. A hard worker too, i’m really excited about this dude.

“At 235 pounds,
he can do an amazing 23 reps at 225 pounds on
bench press. Greenwood also has an exceptional
vertical leap which is now at 39 inches. He runs a
sub-4.60 40-yard dash.”
"Cory is the type of athlete that only comes around
once in awhile," says Concordia head coach Gerry
McGrath. "He has tremendous speed and size for
his position. He is very athletic and very fast. He’s
also a physical player. His gap responsibility isn’t A
to B Gap – it’s sideline to sideline. He has great
coverage skills. He’s very good in man-to-man
coverage."

Great find...
A team captain aye…
Go Chiefs!!!!
The Canadian Press is also reporting that Cory has agreed to a contract with the Chiefs.
Dan Ralph, The Canadian Press TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts will have to wait for Cory Greenwood.
Greenwood agreed to terms on a contract with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs after working out for the team Monday.
The move comes after the six-foot-two, 219-pound Greenwood was selected third overall by the Argos in the CFL draft on May 2.
“I thought Kansas City was out of the picture, they had signed 11 free agents, but they released a linebacker and got hold of my agent and told him they wanted me,” Greenwood told The Canadian Press in a phone interview from Kansas City.
“I feel pretty lucky to get this opportunity this late in the free agent game. It’s a shot at the NFL and how can you pass it up?”
The Argos were hoping to have Greenwood from the start of training camp next month. The aim was to have the talented linebacker contribute on special teams while learning the nuances of the pro game from former all-star linebacker Mike O’Shea, who is in his first season as Toronto’s special-teams coach.
Greenwood is happy to have a spot with the Argos in his back pocket if it doesn’t work out in Kansas City.
“I can lay everything out on the line here, and know that I’m going to be playing professional football, it’s just a matter of in what country,” he said.
Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...
So is he 219 or 235 lbs
At 219 I would have him play SS

Other Arenas wish they could be like Arrowhead Stadium as it prepares to turn a new Page on Chiefs legacy. Rivals think they are going to be fine on a island of Flowers, but when they get hit by what feels like a Carr, they'll never be able to eat a Berry ever again.

Chiefs Released a LB?!?!
Who did they release? And is Cory Greenwood rushing LB? That would be awesome if he is fast, explosive, powerful and can cover the field sideline to sideline while also being able to drop the quarterback for a loss..
FYI: They are calling Tim Teebow – Timmy The Terrific here in Denver…How _ is that???
Canada...
should play football in the spring. I would watch the CFL in the offseason. Then, they could hold their draft in early September. That way they would know which players got nabbed by the NFL. 3 overall? Sounds good to me.
