Chiefs Brass Tells Rookies They Expect Championships
The folks over at KCChiefs.com have a pretty cool video up of a dinner that took place for rookies. If you remember a few weeks ago, Todd Haley said during a press conference that the players were being evaluated all the time and that includes a dinner they were having that evening. This is that dinner.
The video shows the Chiefs power triangle speaking. Here's the video. After the jump is what they had to say.
Clark Hunt:
Tonight I want to take a few minutes to talk about what it means to be a Chief and, by extension, a part of our family. Our fans are the only reason that any of us get to be part of this great league.
Our goal is pretty simple. It's to build a team that can consistently compete for championships. You and your teammates are expected to realize that goal.
Scott Pioli:
Here's our goal. We want to win and we want to win championships. The right way with the right kind of people. That's what we expect.
Todd Haley:
We don't care how you got here fellas. It's what you do once you get here. We don't want "me" guys. We want guys like these gentleman sitting amongst you. Put the team first, as Clark said, above all else. If you come in here and do the things necessary to put yourself in a position to compete everyday, you're going to have a chance to one day sit in this room.

A lot of pressure to put on a Rookie class however yes that should always be the team goal.

Watching the rookies they all have that look like they get it.
Maybe there is something to this “Process”.
Are there any photos of Clark Hunt in which he doesn't look ridiculous?

I found a good one of him with the Fonze.

Made me Laugh...
thanks Generic, and rec’d for the chuckle it gave me…
Things to get the Chiefs back on the winning side of football:
1. Haley resign as offensive coordinator or do the following;
a. Feed JC more
b. Take the cuffs off of Cassel and let him air it out
2. Fire Clancy "Calls" Playslikeass

Do not lack of ambition to aim above mediocrity. We offer no hope for the person who is so indifferent as not to want to get ahead in life, and who is not willing to pay the price.
People forget (or don't know) that Clark was a D1 college athlete.
He played soccer at SMU and, like so many of the 2010 draft class, Clark was team captain. I think Clark is a very mild mannered guy but he is also a competitor. Clark wants to win and may wind up being a more winning owner than his father was.
Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.
I sure hope so
I would love to see Clark have year after year of winning football. That means Lamar Hunts legacy and impact in the game will still carry weight with his son.
Are we the team to beat in 2010? I sure think so! Go Chiefs.
It's not just the hair though.
It’s also the kind of glazed over expression on his face in nearly every picture of him.
Did you notice
Haley always looks like he’s on the dge of his seat? Looking like he doesn’t know what to do? Hopefully, he’s just more comfortable walking the side-line, and not sitting on a stage.

I've noticed that.
When he’s speaking to the public or answering reporters’ questions, sitting or standing, he always has that deer-in-headlights look. But when he’s on the sidelines, he seems a lot more sure of himself. At practices and games, I’ve seen him look happy, excited, angry, frustrated—but he never has that stare he gets during interviews.

Dorkie smile
Clarkie always has that dorkie smile. Probable because his tightass wallet is pushing blood to to his face.
Whitlock is gonna be pissed
there is no way his version of the kgb that is running the chiefs would ever let anything like this leak
I cant wait to see the NEW ARROWHEAD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chiefs will be competing for a division title in 2010

nice...
I’m feeling it already. Can’t wait for July / August camp!
Championships
I think its important how much they talk about championships. I think it creates a mind set that will help get that losing mentality away from this team.
I expect championships as well
This regime gives me that feeling. All my friends still laugh and poke at the Chiefs but, I think we’ll be relevant sooner than later.

i love how this team in my opinion
Is growing closer and closer. It seems like we r more of a family rather than a team everyone has a job everyone has a positive attitude and they all have one common goal success and championships.

Character, Talent, Goals
1993 seems like a long time ago(since last post season win.) I like that Hunt, Pioli, and Haley have put such significance on player character and leadership. It seems like the last 15 yrs. the only national recognition the Chiefs have gotten is for assault and battery, drugs, bar fights, and even a stolen car ring. Telling these instantly rich young players what is expected of them is great. 8-8 is reachable, and 10-6 possible. Find us a monster at NT and we will be dancing in the streets !!

REC, and I agree 100% about 8-8 this year.
Regarding player character, I had to laugh at Carl Peterson when he laid out that “I have to be candid here, I hated those late night phone calls…” Well, YEAAAH…draft players with some class that were raised to know right from wrong, and watch those phone calls drop off…dweeb.
Pioli and Co. have done more research in this recent draft than Peterson did in his entire 20 year run. Every time I go back and read about the way they went about gathering the information on the draft class, it never ceases to amaze me. This crew has their shit together, in a big way. My guess is in 2020, when they vote for the team of the decade 2010-2020, it’ll be the CHIEFS.
We've rode this storm out long enough. It's time to get to the big dance.
…..Hi my name’s rod and I like to party.

Awesome video
glad to see the improvements in attitude. These guys are expected to be winners and will be held accountable as such.

I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out whom Todd Haley resembles
And actually, I really just think I figured out why he looks so familiar: he played Squints in The Sandlot.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

I like the fact they brought the rookies in and introduced them to the Chiefs HOFers
It’s nice to build a sense of the Chiefs legacy, and hopefully to reach back and reconnect to the dominant, ground-breaking team of the 60s and early 70s. And proof that the lame attacks on Pioii and Haley that they don’t respect the Chiefs history is absolute hogwash.

Wait! I thought the new regime had banned all the old players from the complex!
How could this be?!!???!
Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.
I read your comment and imagine your picture icon screeching those very words.
I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin.
Like I said....
If I was Clark Hunt, I’d tell them to bring home the trophy which bares my father’s name, period. The rest will follow.
Like the video
Like how they are trying to set the mind set of “we expect team first and a team that wins championships”. Still need a NT, though.
Following the Chiefs more than I should be between late nights at a social networking software start up.
Dinner Featurette huh? Didn't see too much eating....Is this another way of getting around the CBA?
