Chiefs Not Visiting With Gerald McCoy Either
We pointed out this morning that the Kansas City Chiefs have not scheduled a visit with Tennessee DT Dan Williams, who is largely considered one of the top two nose tackles in the NFL draft.
We've got another big name who has no scheduled visit to Kansas City -- Oklahoma DT Gerald McCoy.
McCoy was never likely an option for the Chiefs for a couple of reasons.
First, he's widely expected to be taken within the top three picks which would make him unavailable to the Chiefs.
Second, he's not a nose tackle. In a chat on NFL.com today, McCoy was asked what position he might play in a 3-4 defense and said right end.
Defensive end is one of the few positions we can almost assuredly say they will not draft.
Glenn Dorsey, 2008 5th overall pick, and Tyson Jackson, 2009 3rd overall pick, are young and come with hefty salaries so they're not going anywhere. In addition to that, the Chiefs used a third round pick on Alex Magee last year.
McCoy has visited the Lions and Redskins and still has plans to visit the Rams and Bucs.

Yep.
McCoy just wouldn’t fit anywhere on the DL unless we got rid of Jackson or Dorsey… and that AIN’T HAPPENING.

Yes....it is a real word, Berry good JacinB and it means very generous.

Williams is one of the top two overrated NT prospects in this draft.
McCoy I dont think suits either for that spot.
"Success is never ending, failure is never final."
the other being Cody?
"It doesn't matter what you do in Life only that you do it the best you can. "
Damn
I know you want physically fit troops.
I want a NT, Would you take Wifork?

I don't know, probably not if he is build just like Cody
"It doesn't matter what you do in Life only that you do it the best you can. "
Not to get into trouble here
But a NT is physically like a Male Silverback Gorilla
Long Arms and a large build to dominate and absorb 2 blockers

Really what University did he go to?
draft that guy then cause he looks fit
"It doesn't matter what you do in Life only that you do it the best you can. "
He is fit
and the big belly is hidden, part of the physique IMO

Really!!! Draft that Gorilla can u see him walking up to the line
baring his teeth and pounding his chest and watching 11 raiders or donkeys all running back to their bench
"It doesn't matter what you do in Life only that you do it the best you can. "
Yes I can
I would not want to face a Gorilla.
Yet I would love to be friends with a Gorilla :)
Warmth and comradeship know’s no better companion.
Would take years of learning and finding out though

I think this tells us that Williams
will not be the pick at #5 or where ever we end up picking. As badly as we need a NT and they havent scheduled a visit with him tells me they arent interested at all in him. Mccoy doesnt surprise me as he wont fall to us and we wouldnt take him even if he did
I saw a thing on ESPN
about how lots of players are drafted by teams they never visited with or had private workouts with. In fact its fairly common. Kind of hard to read alot into all those visits and workouts.
Sometimes teams think they have a good enough look at a guy
So they decide that not conducting private workouts or visits with that player is a way to avoid tipping their hands.

It would make more sense to mix them into the visits
"For what we are about to see next, we must enter quietly into the realm of genius." Scott "Young Frankenstein" Pioli
I can't believe that they would decide based on the next best players
without seeing the guy for themselves. Ala Eric Berry visit
"For what we are about to see next, we must enter quietly into the realm of genius." Scott "Young Frankenstein" Pioli
They can still see the players themselves
For example, KC had a significant presence at the OU pro day, just like every other team did, and of course there was the combine. They still get a very close look.

I was actually not including McCoy
good player and a non fit in KC, Same as Carlos Dunlop (no visit with him either.
We have not visited with Joe Haden
Clausen
Trent Williams
Pierre-Paul
Everson Griffen
Bruce Campbell
Ryan Mathews
wilson
Davis
Kindle
Wooten
Demarrys Thomas
Lots of good players that we don’t need at the picks assigned

Lots of those guys have been scouted
For example, KC saw Trent Williams, Kindle, and others at the Senior Bowl, combine, and their respective pro days.

And our draft interests chart
Isn’t complete…very possible and even likely in some cases that the Chiefs have visited with these guys and the news hasn’t gotten out.
For the No. 5 pick, the visits are pretty important I think. This is when you can spend a day or a day and a half with a player and really get to know him. Also, this is when a lot of the medical tests happen (in addition to what’s been doing previously)…if you’re going to be putting that much money on that player, I imagine you’d want a full look at him.
That's all correct, of course...
…but lots of team docs get to poke, prod, and otherwise examine prospects at the combine and, in some cases, the pro day as well. Private visits aren’t the only opportunity. Like someone said earlier, lots of teams draft guys with whom they did not conduct private visits, and it happens even in the first round.

we already have mccoy
his name is Glenn Dorsey. same guy. He won’t be there. he will be in tampa with #3. If Okung is gone I bet RT Baluga is the guy! keyword RT-which we desperatly need after soldifying the middle of the OL(kind of), and we aren’t gonna like it but it is what it is. The Whale at 5,so fellow AP’ers jump on now because were gonna play it safe again! unless we can move the pick(doubtful).

lets hope we don't waste a #5 pick on a RT
I’d rather we went offense

Defense

??
how is getting a 10 year mainstay(hopefully) at RT a waste of a pick? That solves a problem, and I don’t think the godfather is going to take Berry or Mcclain there, but it’s definetly not the sexy pick.

our biggest need on the offensive line is Center
then guards RT is not a need
"It doesn't matter what you do in Life only that you do it the best you can. "
We can pick a Center after the 1st round

only 1st round talent at Center is Pouncey
have seen him as high as 15th in one mock

you did mean offense :)
@5
Makes no sense Sgt

taking Bulaga
makes no sense, but what do I know
"It doesn't matter what you do in Life only that you do it the best you can. "
ok who do u take if it goes bradford,Suh,Mccoy, and the okung at 4? who u takn at #5?
by CHEEFN58 on Apr 7, 2010 9:44 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
Berry or trade down
trading down would be best for the team overall but getting a trading partner do dance with might be a problem.
"It doesn't matter what you do in Life only that you do it the best you can. "
of course
u trade down if possible, but If that doesn’t happen which in the top 5 is rare there is 0 percent chance we draft a center or guard. I like Berry 2 but I think pos.value will sway the godfather.
by CHEEFN58 on Apr 7, 2010 9:50 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
No I think he pulls the trigger on Berry
he’s the BPA and to top it off is the right 53. everyone talks FS or SS but in a 3-4 they use Left/Right that kills that argument
"It doesn't matter what you do in Life only that you do it the best you can. "
I agree
Berry can fit in anywhere they choose to play him in the secondary.
I prefer CB but FS or SS if they get another safety too.
I don’t want a @5 playing SS, just my phobia
