Random Thoughts (A Week After The Draft)

Ok guys you know the drill. Come along for the ride.

*Here's what I thought about our draft class this year: I LOVED IT! Pioli said it best: we needed to increase the team's overall speed. He certainly did that. And he brought in high-character guys. Leadership and talent? That's pretty good if you ask me.

*I'm surprised that we didn't draft a nose tackle or a middle linebacker. Last week I said this: "The Chiefs will draft a nose tackle somewhere in the first three rounds. Mark my words." I know I'm not the only one who felt this way. Although we didn't draft a NT or ILB, I don't doubt for a minute that Pioli is still on the lookout.

*I can't believe I'm saying this (and I'm ready for the criticism that comes with it): selecting Rolando McClain with their first round pick was a great move by the Raiders. They needed LB help badly and McClain is smart enough and talented enough to make a big impact on their defense.

*While I think N. Suh will eventually be a big time player in the NFL, don't expect him to blow everyone away in his rookie year. Defensive tackles take time to develop. And I honestly can't think of any DT who had an outstanding rookie season in the last few years. I think he will certainly help out, but don't expect him to be a game changer yet.

*It was only a month ago that I'd heard of Jason PIerre-Paul. From what I understand, he's an athletic freak (doing backflips in shoulderpads is pretty impressive). But it sounds like he is known more for his athletic ability and his "potential" than his impact on the field.

*I only got to watch the first two rounds last week because of work. Here's what I saw: Mel Kiper going crazy over Clausen not being drafted in the first round. Steve Young sounding kinda combative and making everything awkward on set. Chris Berman looking annoyed and frustrated (I think he was agitated by the cameraman). It reminded me of Michael Scott from 'The Office'. Thank you ESPN.

*Lately I've been on Youtube watching videos of fans reacting to their team's picks. The best one I've ever seen: a group of Packers fans getting mad about the selection of Justin Harrell in 2007. "F***ING NAZI!" Priceless.

Well that's all for today. Feel free to respond.
