In the pre-draft process, reps from the Chiefs returned to the Maine campus searching for the next Jovan Belcher. Not an inside linebacker, specifically, but a player from Maine who contributes in year one.
Belcher did that in 2009 and now the Chiefs have another Black Bear -- Tyler Eastman was one of the Chiefs 11 undrafted free agents that were signed.
"I was pretty nervous. I wasn't sure what to expect," said Eastman, according to the Kennebec Journal. "I had talked to a couple of teams during the day. A coach with Atlanta and St. Louis during the draft. No one from Kansas City though. But they were at my pro day."
The Chiefs were one of a handful of teams at his pro day.
We did a story on the Maine pro day but focused on another player -- LB Jordan Stevens -- who was signed by the Lions. I did however briefly mention Eastman.
