2010: Year of the Chiefs
Totally agree.
I remember a time when the reason you had two kickers on your squad was because the other one got turf toe. Now One gets to do kickoffs and the other field goals? Some of these guys really need to go and have long conferences with guys like Adam Vinitari.

This is Menelik Holt
i apologize for those tweets and anyone who knows me understand that "packin a gat" is not representative of me, my family or the university i attended. its a quote from Tupac Shakur in an influential movie we watched in an advanced senior class at our university. sorry if this offended anyone who was pulling for me and i’m even more saddened by the fact that this may have cost me a shot with the kansas city chiefs. Conversations and jokes between me and my teammate niles paul is not meant for the internet and the things i posted does not reflect his character as a man. sorry for the disappointment
Still waiting on

Gunnell catches everything.
Watched him during the Emerald Bowl and he was impressive. Definately a possession type receiver not a blazer but good hands.
Everything except the pass in the picture above :)

would LOVE Micah in KC
* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* KC will NOT draft a LT in the first round, and the draft WILL be heavy on defense

Home Invasion?
He was rumored to have participated in a home invasion (w/guns) last year. Not sure if that’s why he wasn’t drafted…
Whoa what?
Where did that come from? Was it a rumor or did it actually happen?
Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...
It was a rumor
& after looking some more, I think that’s all it was. I’m pretty sure the reason he didn’t get drafted was his horrible 40 time (1st run was over five seconds).
He looks faster on tape.
Great player when watching him IMO does he need some work, yup, but could really be a guy to bring in and mold to be the thumper of the Chiefs D for years to come

but why not give him a chance. Without the gamne at Boise he was probably a 2nd to 3rd rounder at the very least
There will be a lot of them released during training camps and stuff.

I hope that NT doesn't turn into what offensive line
Did from 2006-2008. It’s so obvious that it needs improvement but it gets ignored. Then one day they’ll be like “I guess we shouldve fixed that”

nah, not with romeo...hes a 3-4 master...
Team Pioli/Haley
If all else fails... put Romeo at NT.
We have more coaches that look like NTs than actual NTs.
by ChiTownChiefs on Apr 24, 2010 7:54 PM CDT up reply actions
We have Shaun Smith at NT.
At this point he is the NT of the future. Pioli and Crennel wouldn’t have ignored it if they didn’t think it was a need. They are obviously comfortable with what they have going forward and see and know something we don’t.

I dont think Pioli is the guy to get someone who wont fit well
He will reach for someone, like Jackson at #3 last year, but he wont draft someone he doesn’t think cant get the job done. He must think Ron Edwards and Shaun Smith can get the job done better than anyone in the draft could.

NT of the future?
Didn’t he just sign a one-year contract?
There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

nah
im pretty sure they think hes just a hole filler till they find a guy to be the future, i dont think they saw anyone they liked in the draft to be the long term key to the defense so they signed a rotation guy to help keep big ron fresh
agreed
I think they probably wanted either Troup or Joseph in the 2nd round, but both were gone by #50
thomas and Cody were likely not even on their board
this should be the most exciting Chiefs team in years! Most all major needs filled with playmakers, and the league's best coaching staff... 10-6?
Well.... The Way I see it....
Our NTOTF is probably already on the roster. Alot of you seem to forget about a big fella already on our roster. His name? Derek Lokey. What I saw from Lokey in the preseason, showed me promise. Although he is extremely raw, I noticed he did not get moved off the ball. To be completely honest, he was the only NT in the preseason, I saw even able to collapse the middle of the pocket…

* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* KC will NOT draft a LT in the first round, and the draft WILL be heavy on defense
That's crazy
I know he’s had way too many injuries, but wasn’t he the leading receiver in NCAA football last season?
Predictions:
This year will be better
4 knee surgerys on the same knee in the last 4 years
Right now he couldn’t even pass a physical to get on a team because he’s not healed from the last one.
Read a Tweet
saying he wouldn’t be signed by the Rams because he can’t pass the physical…
SeaHawks

Joe Pawelek, ILB, Baylor
Reggie Carter, OLB, UCLA

I like him. Tall, strong after catch, seperation. Wonder why he wasn’t drafted

Here are the two I found.
No audio, so kind of boring, but he’s incredible!
He has no fear. Almost all of his passes are just floaters from his QB, but he just goes and gets it. He has DBs and LBs ready to knock his head off, but he catches the ball and holds on. Tough receiver.
Updated this list if you wanna refresh
Chiefs are negotiating with Cory Greenwood, LB outta Concordia.
the ones you say signed...are those ones that signed with the Chiefs (unofficially)?

Off the subject
But I was just reading Bill Williamson’s blog and this is what he said after our draft. “The Chiefs could still use a big receiver, a tight end and a nose tackle” Last time i checked Bowe was a pretty big reciever, We just drafted a pretty good tight end and have Cottom, and Shaun Smith is our nose tackle. Im wondering how he still has a job with ESPN. I think Arrowhead Pride should become the official blog on ESPN
Nah
We have bigger plans than ESPN :)

agreed...Interview with Pioli/Haley
they indicated that they expect the younger Defensive players…(didn’t get specific)…to step up this year and improve the team’s run defense.
I think it’s significant…that they believe in them enough to give them this year to step up…although nothing says the Chiefs won’t grab an FA DL/ILB/OLB here after the draft and toward the end of Pre-season.

I always feel
that the Chiefs do a very poor job on acquiring UDFA’s after the draft. We always seem slower than the other teams, and continually fail to land some of the bigger names at the same time. We had tons of time after our 5th round draft choices to prepare and line up guys that’d be possibilities for us, yet we’ve only landed a handful (that we know of at least). I know it’s not a contest to land the most UDFA’a or anything, but as a fan, it’s pretty frustrating to see most other teams already reaching agreement with twice as many guys as we have.
by Detroit Buckets on Apr 24, 2010 8:27 PM CDT reply actions
it's not all about the big names
They had 2 UDFAs on the team, 3 if you count Long… that’s not bad.
These guys are all long shots, and there’s usually a reason 32 teams pass on em 7 times

Cory Greenwood
Concordia (Canada)

Greenwood put on quite the show for those in attendance. At 6’2" 236lbs. he ran a 4.50 flat time in the 40 yard dash which would have been best at the linebacker position at the combine stateside and his 40-inch vertical jump would have ranked second amongst linebackers in Indianapolis. During the shorter 8 game schedule in Canada this year, Greenwood tallied 72 tackles with 3 tackles for loss and 2 sacks.
Greenwood is considered a relatively raw prospect with limited football experience and will need a solid coaching staff to get him into playing shape mentally. His size will make him a bit of a tweener in the linebacker realm which can be seen as both a good and bad thing at times with no natural position floating between inside and outside linebacker. He played the majority of his ball in Canada at the inside position, but his lack of bulk might make that transition difficult in the NFL. Moving to the outside won’t be an easy task for him either as he doesn’t have the ideal pass rushing instincts to play on the edge at the next level. With his raw athleticism and pure upside however, it would be surprising to see him get beyond the 5th round after last year’s showing by Martin. Greenwood has all of the physical tools to make quite an impact in the league, but only time will tell just how he transitions to the extensive season.
Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...
Sounds like a nice practice squad guy
Get him in the system, coach him up, maybe get something out of him a couple years down the road.
Did he get unnoticed
because he played in Canada. Poor Guy. Hopefully Romeo can unleash this beast. Hopefully the next James Harrison
Oh yeah, he was the Captain. That would make 6 if they get him signed.

He has recurring knee injuries is what scared teams off
on CBSsports the scouting report said he’s outstanding against the run and has great athleticism. Just injury prone. I’d take the chance. Can’t hurt as a UDFA.
Thomas Jones and the Lombardi, DO IT!
Here's Mike Johnson, North Alabama info from CBSSports site
03/12/2010 – Players began the day by being measured and weighed. They moved on to the weight room where they were measured in the broad jump. It was then on to the bench press where they tried to do as many reps as possible with 225 pounds on the bar. The players were then tested for their vertical leap before hitting the practice field to be timed in the 40-yard dash. Up next were two different shuttle runs, which several players struggled with due to the wet field. “It was a little bit difficult with the field conditions,” safety Quinton Andrews said. “I’m a little upset with how I did because I’ve been doing better in my training. I was slipping on everything, so my overall performance was not as good as I had hoped for. But I’m going to keep my head up and keep on working.” Linebacker Michael Johnson was clocked at between 4.6 and 4.7 in his two attempts in the 40-yard dash. He was pleased with his overall performance. “I had food poisoning over the weekend and couldn’t hold down any food for about three days,” Johnson said. “That and the weather made this a pretty nerve-racking experience. But I’ve felt better the last couple of days and I’m excited about the day I had today.” Wilson, despite weighing 367 pounds, ran a solid 5.35 40-yard dash. Wide receiver Mico McSwain was among the fastest players, running a 4.5 40-yard dash, while defensive back Jason Tate impressed the scouts with a broad jump of 10 feet, 6 inches. – Jeff McIntyre, Times Daily
12/28/2009 – 2009 AP LITTLE ALL-AMERICA FIRST TEAM: Linebacker – Michael Johnson, 6-4, 255, North Alabama, has been selected First Team Little All-American (Division II, III & NAIA) for the 2009 college football season as voted on by the Associated Press. – AP Sports
12/09/2009 – Michael Johnson has won plenty of awards in his four seasons at North Alabama, but he admits the latest one is pretty special. UNA’s senior middle linebacker was named the Ron Lenz National Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday by Daktronics, Inc. “Individual awards usually are not something I think a lot about, but this one made me smile,” Johnson said. “It means everything to end my career with an award like this and I’m very humbled. Winning the GSC Defensive Player of the Year was an honor, but this is on a much larger scale.” Johnson made the Daktronics All-America team for the second consecutive season. He is joined on the first-team by teammates Montrell Craft, Calvin Wilson and Will Batson. UNA was the only school with more that two first-team selections. Johnson, a Panama City, Fla., native, was a four-year starter for the Lions. He helped the Lions win the Gulf South Conference championship and advance to the Super Region 2 Championship Game. Johnson tallied 113 tackles with 17 tackles for losses and five sacks in 13 games this season. He has previously been selected Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Year and Daktronics Super Region 2 Defensive Player of the Year. “I have to give so much credit to our coaches and my teammates,” Johnson said. Johnson hopes the award will help him in his quest to be selected in the NFL Draft. “It will be tough, but I hope this award will solidify me a little more as a prospect,” he said. “Maybe it will help me get invited to the big NFL Combine in Indianapolis.” – Jeff McIntyre, Times Daily
11/18/2009 – GULF SOUTH CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: North Alabama linebacker Michael Johnson follows in the footsteps of one of the school’s legendary players as the GSC Defensive Player of the Year. The senior is the first UNA player to claim the accolade since College Football Hall of Fame linebacker Ronald McKinnon won honors in 1994 and 1995. Johnson is UNA’s fifth overall winner and he is also the fifth straight linebacker to win the award. He has spearheaded the Lions to the league Title and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Playoffs. North Alabama’s defense is tops in the league in scoring defense, pass defense and total defense. The Panama City, FL native ranks fifth in tackles for loss (1.18) and fumbles forced (tied, 0.27) and sixth in tackles (8.4). – Gulf South football
09/07/2009 – GULF SOUTH SEPT. 7 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: North Alabama linebacker Mike Johnson (SR, 6-3, 255, Panama City, FL) collects his first-ever accolade, spearheading UNA’s defense in a 31-14 home win over No. 22 Carson-Newman. The senior led all players with 14 total tackles including a game-high eight solo stops. He also posted 2.0 tackles for a loss of three yards, forced one fumble and grabbed one interception. The Panama City, FL native made his presence felt early, stepping in front of a C-N pass on the fourth play from scrimmage. In the fourth quarter, Johnson made a tackle on fourth-and-goal and also forced a fumble which UNA recovered on its own 27 yard line. – GSC football
08/06/2009 – 2009 PRESEASON GULF SOUTH CONFERENCE FOOTBALL TEAM: LB Mike Johnson, North Alabama, 6-4, 250, SR, Panama City, FL, has been selected Preseason All-Gulf South Conference Football for the 2009 college football season. Johnson was chosen as a linebacker on the UNA Team of the Decade for 1999-2008. Helped anchor a defensive unit last season that led the nation in turnovers. Named first-team Daktronics All-American, first-team Football Gazette All-Super Region 2, first-team Daktronics All-Super Region 2, and first-team All-Gulf South Conference. Led the team in tackles for the third consecutive season with 84, making 37 solo stops and 47 assists. Had 2.5 tackles for loss and finished the season with two interceptions. Had nine games with five or more tackles including two games with 10 or more tackles. – North Alabama football

Purple...52...yep.

The one signing on this list I really like is..
The Lewis signing. He is a beast and truly projects as a ZBS center. Have heard from a few places of a 4th round grade on him. He helped Okung look good. Was a starter when OSU went #1 in rushing 3 years in a row. He was the starting LG next to Okung.
Also i really want to see how Derek Lokey works out as NT . In the playes i saw with him in he looked pretty good.
Lokey is way too small

Stats
Overview
Three year starter; Texas vs. Nation invitee.
Strengths
Athletic lineman who can play both center and guard. Quick off the ball and into his blocks. Gets to the second level, can run and block in space. Long arms, plays with leverage and gets some push. Technically proficient. Good in combination blocks. Scrappy and competes. Quick into his pass sets. Displays good balance, mirrors & slides well and can recover when initially beaten. Ideal fit for a zone-blocking scheme.
Weaknesses
Not huge and doesn’t have the frame to add much weight. Not powerful; more of a position/seal guy, though not what you would call a liability. Can be driven back by top power DTs.
Projection
Smart, versatile lineman should be chosen in the middle rounds. Needs some seasoning, but has the tools to develop into a starter down the road. Snaps lefty, a rarity.

so the line COULD look like
Albert/Lilja/Lewis/Asomoah/O’Cally — That looks like a very powerful ZB line, of course if Lewis gains experience and gets better. One can dream.
that could be the 2011 line
Maybe w Colin Brown in there somewhere
Lewis may stick, but I think Casey or Rudy start this year

Boston College’s Profile for Rich Gunnell
Overview
Gunnell is Boston College’s all-time leader in receiving yards with 2459 in his career (broke Pete Mitchell’s record). He’s second in receptions (181) and fourth in TDs (18). As a senior in 2009, he was voted team MVP after starting all 13 games and being selected as All-ACC Honorable Mention. He finished the season with 60 catches for 880 yards and 7 TDs. His final game, the Emerald Bowl against USC, saw him tally 6 catches for 130 yards and a TD. During his career, he has also returned punts and kicks effectively. In 2007, as a RS sophomore, he became Matt Ryan’s big-play receiver.
Strengths
Gunnell is a classic possession receiver who has the ability to make the big play as well. He’s an excellent route runner who can get open. Gunnell is a solid hand-catcher who shows excellent ball skills. He’s not afraid to go across the middle and plays a physical game. He’ll take a hit and has the concentration to hold onto the ball. He’s also a willing and effective blocker. Gunnell is a smart, productive player with tremendous work ethic, character, and leadership ability.
Weaknesses
Gunnell doesn’t display much in the way of deep speed or quickness. He’s a bit smaller than most teams would like as well.

He definitely had the talent, but (1) Niles Paul’s been their main guy at WR, and (2) I think Holt kept getting into minor trouble.

On Chris Turner
Unlike Bruce Campbell, Maryland quarterback Chris Turner isn’t even assured of having his name called during the draft. So he eagerly jumped, ran, lifted weights and threw the football to give the scouts something to remember him by. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Turner ran the 40 in 5.16 seconds, then in 5.10. He pressed 225 pounds 11 times. Those numbers aren’t as important as the fact that he was a three-year starter, threw 30 touchdown passes, had four 300-yard games and was 5-2 against teams in the Top 25. Said Turner: “I think with good performances, good interviews, with good tryouts with different teams I can get drafted. It’s just a matter of doing it.” – AP Sports
Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...
Fridge had it in for Turner for a few years here in MD
He kept handing the job to one upperclassman bum or another after Turner had clearly won it. Turner’s okay, actually. We’ll see if he can turn into anything when he’s not playing in Fridge’s awful program.

this should be the most exciting Chiefs team in years! Most all major needs filled with playmakers, and the league's best coaching staff... 10-6?
Michael Johnson
After watching him for the past 4 years, I can say that Michael Johnson is a HOSS. He doesn’t move like he weighs 250 and he has a great knack for finding the ball. He’s a lot like former North Alabama MLB Ronald McKinnon who, as an UDFA, led the Cardinals in tackles for 9 years except Michael is bigger, faster and meaner. He’s a good guy and a leader on and off the field and I mean that in a good way. I think you will be happy he’s there.
