Milling rumors

With the draft ever approaching, the rumor mill has kicked it's flux-capacitor into high gear and time-warped into an interstellar fright fest. Especially when it concerns my favorite arrowhead toting team. The mill has been spewing nightmarish rumors such as: Bryan Bologna Bulaga with the 5th overall pick, trading D. Johnson for a 12th rounder and bringing back Willis McGahee and his 7 colostomy bags to replace him, or trading down with Buffalo to snag Joel Thorman at strong safety. Ridiculously long sentence you might say. And besides, Joel would be better suited as a free safety. And I'd probably have to agree. But its the rumors and speculation that get things going!

All the draft speculation from the likes of Peter King, Mike Lombardi, Mel Kiper jr., and Mock the Mayock, their crap is being slung like turds on an Iowa pig farm. And after the draft they sling even more at the teams that went against their predictions. Kind of funny how many players rise and fall with all of the media's hallaballu isn't it? People are always changing "their guy" to "that other guy". The alcohol induced fits of joy because they picked YOUR GUY, and the deafening roars of, WHO THE F#*K IS THAT GUY!?, are about to be heard throughout sports nation. The countdown is on for one of the biggest, most talented draft classes to begin.

Do you want to know who we're going to take? Please. Like I have a clue. My big question is who do we go after, AFTER the draft? Who do we bring in to strengthen our team? To try and fill the needs that we couldn't address through the draft? I wish I knew who we're picking. How the draft will shake out, but I know as much as the next guy. Which isn't much.

With the constant barrage of fluxuating opinions on who to draft and why, why not take some time to think about who's still out there. Of course you don't know WHO we'll need until after the draft. But who would you like to see anyway? We have plenty of needs. There are still plenty of players, restricted, and unrestricted. Even a few players who are up for sale, whether they know it or not, just look at Richard Seymore. Think about it. Who would you like to see the most. Who do you think could make an immediate impact? Even if we have to trade players, picks, Pioli's mom, future picks, even golfing lessons with Todd Haley (and even promise that he won't shove his sand wedge up your ass if you win). Who would you want?

I love rumors and the speculation that follows. Not real keen on insinuations about RT's being drafted with the 5th overall pick. But a good rumor gets the brain going and makes room for the speculation to begin, no matter how absurd. Such as taking a RT with the 5th overall pick. Crazy rumors continue to spread to the masses, and then some of them actually become true. Who would've ever thought Philly would trade away a franchise QB to a division rival? Or a top wideout would be shipped off for a 5th round pick? Weird things are happening all over, each one stranger then the last. Its not crazy to think that whatever player you'd like to see wearing red and gold is completely impossible or infeasible.

For me, I have three hopefuls. The first is Darren Sharper. He's an aging Vet coming off of knee surgery. Upside? He led the league in INT's and helped his team win the SuperBowl last year. The second is Kirk Morrison. At 28 he's been around the league awhile. He's a stout ILB and strong against the run. He'd be an excellent addition to this team (IMO). The third, and this is my REALLY OUT THERE hopeful, not impossible, but highly improbable pick. Nnamdi Asomugha. I couldn't help but think about it after watching Al "dead man walking" Davis offer up Asomugha to Philly during the McNabb trade debacle. It made me wonder if they really want him and his massive contract around. What about trying to pull Asomugha, a shut down corner, away from a hated division rival?

The best CB in the league. What would it take to bring him here? We have the cap space, if there was a cap. Would a 2nd round pick in next years draft do it? Probably not. But Al's never been accused of being too bright, and the window to take advantage of his lunacy is closing fast. They gave up their 1st for Seymore in 2011. They need all the picks they can get. With Asomugha, Flowers, Sharper, and Page, suddenly our secondary would look anything but secondary. Kirk Morrison paired with Brandon Spikes inside = HOLY SH*Z, making a "reach" for a NT at #5 begin to seem like its not such a reach after all. We'd still need a solid OLB to compliment Hali, but BAM!!! Our D would have just went from pathetic to, "you just got knocked the F*#K out!" Fun to think about.

I'm a dreamer by nature. I know any of this actually happening is beyond the cosmic powers of even John Cusack in the greatest movie I wish I'd never seen, 2012. But, you never know. This country was founded on a dream. The NFL was founded on an idea. And this blog was founded on the hope that people might actually give a damn. And it looks like it, because I'm on here every day along with hundreds of others, posting and pasting my opinions away. So, although improbable, nothing is impossible. Love to know who you think is worthy of the "improbable", and why they would benefit our team. Start cranking the flux capacitor and generate some thoughts out there. Thanks for reading my novel. And thank you AP for being such a great site! Best wishes at Radio City!
