Center Moving Up On Needs

We all know we need to upgrade our OLine, but with Denver signing Williams our need for a center is even more important. I can't imagine Pioli and Co. putting C up a little higher on the list. During one of the playoff games Collinsworth said that you build your team around the other teams in your division. If they have a strong receiver corp you put more in the DB's, if they are primarily Rush you buy the defensive line. I think we need to upgrade our C as a higher priority today more so than yesterday.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

damn Satch! you took my thunder!...lol j/k :)

Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!

I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

haha, good point

I honestly don’t think that this particular move changes anything…

but, they DO need a new center.

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* Pioli will make at least one trade in the offseason, and 2 trades during the draft
* I'd prefer "lightning and lightning" as opposed to "lightning and thunder" when it comes to RBs
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* keep Albert at LT, upgrade the positions that NEED upgrading.C, RG, NT, S, LB

However Denver just got a good NT

San Diego will get a stud whatever way they have to.. SO the post is right to assume that we have to beef up the C position because Denver just maintained a threat all the while guaranteeing another one to enter the division

you could have said the same thing if SD retained Williams...

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* Pioli will make at least one trade in the offseason, and 2 trades during the draft
* I'd prefer "lightning and lightning" as opposed to "lightning and thunder" when it comes to RBs

San Diego is in more of an urgent situation to acquire a high level NT

Denver is rebuilding
San Diego is trying to take advantage of a closing SB window

Or SD wouldn't have released him

if he wasn’t broken down and done. I agree we need a new C. This move just has little-no effect on that fact.

This is my signature line. It is full of awesome and win.

good point

my bad. we still need a new center. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

How do you win your Division?

Negate the strenghts of the other teams and accuent your own positives.
We have upgraded our Running back group and NOW we upgrade the blocking group.
Still need a NT ourselves and a Strong safety to stuff the TE/RB combo right up our middle, certainly some ILB help would be welcome. Of course we could upgrade the DB’s to the point that nobody in the AFC West can throw on us instead.

I'm starting to think in a different strategy...

We have upgraded the NT, but I believe we still need to draft a NT, and at 2a if Cody is available we take him. I too was thinking that we needed to upgrade the ILB. This is where my strategy is a little different. Lets move Vrable to ILB, and have him next to Derrick Johnson… this gets DJ back on the field and making some serious plays. What mistakes are made will be shadowed by Mike Vrable. Later in the rounds we grab someone like Sergio Kindle to play OLB. It seems by making these moves our front 7 are drastically increased…

The only problem that I see is that the safety position still needs to be upgraded, as I see that Russel Okung will most likely be gone, we upgrade the safety position with Eric Berry. The center of the defense should be able to shut down the pass, and hopefully put pressure on the QB causing turnovers.

Sorry that this was so long but I am just trying to get my thoughts out in words.

Go Chiefs!!!!

Dont know if williams

will be the williams of old……but i think we do need to upgrade at C……I would like to see us get lilja and put him at LG then move waters down to C……..all we would need would be a RG, that we could get through the draft or someone like ndukwe or niswanger or colin brown(which might be a stretch)

by cassel4prez on Mar 9, 2010 7:40 PM CST reply actions

more like ...

grab Lilja, then draft Pouncey and another young stud OLineman … keep waters at LG and plug Lilja in at RG where they can teach Pouncey in the middle while the younger guys learn

I like the idea of signing Mawae better...

or Quinn Ojinnaka… then look at the best guard or center that is available at the 2b pick.

Go Chiefs!!!!

by ravenhawk on Mar 10, 2010 9:08 PM CST up reply actions

wouldn't it be better

to move Waters to RG and sign a FA C (Weigman) and draft a young C?

any of the above would work

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* Pioli will make at least one trade in the offseason, and 2 trades during the draft
* I'd prefer "lightning and lightning" as opposed to "lightning and thunder" when it comes to RBs

that could be a good idea to

if weigman can still hang. Despite his very old age (39 on the o line) I like Mawae too. I guess path of least resistance. We can get a FA center, draft a young center, and pick up Lilja. Who cares, they’ll get the talent we can get, and make them fit. Just want to see something.

That should be in sarcasm font

The Williams signing doesn’t scare me at all. The dude is done for.

1. Suh will fall to us at 5
2. McClain will fall to us at 2a
3. The Chiefs will trade DJ and Dorsey

and, it was pretty big money, I think

they said on NFLN he is only going to take 20 snaps a game

Regardless of who the Chiefs pick at #5 overall, Whitlock will call it the worst pick in the history of the Chiefs. Heres to hoping that #5 pick runs Whitlock out of town.....

Trend

I believe you’re in a more controlling environment, when you set the trend, not follow the trend. And, I believe Pioli is a trend setter!

The Pouncey boys started as true freshman and played well in the SEC.

One at C, one at G. They were both big and mean and played all three interior line spots.

by skunk420 on Mar 10, 2010 6:26 AM CST reply actions

1st we help the defense and draft Berry

then with 2a Pouncey is the Best Choice IF he is available, there is talk of him going to 3 different teams late in 1st round, But we can always hope he will be there at 2a.
There are others to look at but we have a dire need at center and one more OL.
My choice for that 2nd OL is Ciron Black of LSU. He is a mountain of a man and with a heart as big as he is would be a total asset to the organization.
Coach Weis will have a major say also as 2 of his ND seniors are in the draft a center and a good lineman.

Center was always a need

dont know how its just moving up now

Both Center and NT are filled in the second round imo

2a – Cam Thomas
2b- J.D. Walton

The first 3 picks of the draft will be defense. Pioli loves him some defense.

by ChiefsfanJon on Mar 10, 2010 10:13 AM CST reply actions

better value would be 2b and 3

and it’s pretty likely they will be there

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league

My thoughts exactly

Can get 2 impact players at 1 and 2a. Should still be able to get Cam at 2b and Walton a 3. Had that in my mind for several weeks now.

several scenarios

1- Okung or Berry or DWiiliams
2a-Tate, Weatherspoon, Sapp, Cody, Pouncey, NAllen and several other options…
2b-Cam, cb
3- Walton, Gilyard, Shipley, Ducasse,
Sorry i turned this into a mock, I’ll stop
