Guess who's got a Nose Tackle? We do!
See if you can follow me here.
Earlier today, ArrowheadPride posted this on Twitter:
"Chiefs have a player in the building taking a physical (not Thomas Jones related). Stay tuned... "
That same ArrowheadPride (@ArrowheadPride) is following a 'Shaun Smith' on Twitter (@sjs91).
That Shaun Smith has a Chiefs logo as his image.
That Shaun Smith also, despite having his tweets protected so we can't read them, has a link to the official homepage of the Shaun Smith who is the Nose Tackle of the Cleveland Browns ( http://www.shaunsmith91.com/ )
So, is it safe to assume that Shaun Smith is the next new Chief ... ?! I'd think it is.

Nice work JacinB!
I like the deductive reasoning.
that would be a NICE FA haul
a couple of other role players and a good draft, and I’m a happy camper
* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* Pioli will make at least one trade in the offseason, and 2 trades during the draft
* I'd prefer "lightning and lightning" as opposed to "lightning and thunder" when it comes to RBs
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* keep Albert at LT, upgrade the positions that NEED upgrading.C, RG, NT, S, LB
Smith is one tough, mean, take no shit kind of guy.
I like that kind of nasty in a NT. This would be a nice signing IMO. I know a lot of people don’t like him but, I think our D could use some attitude.
i dont know much a bout shaun smith but i got a few things here

not much on how he played or anything but this is the same guy who people had reported that he got in a fight with brady quinn and punched him. To me he doesnt sound like hes anything better than ron edwards.
hes been on 6 NFL teams and his career total is..
144 tackles
2 sacks
2 forced fumbles
this is all according to wikipedia. … http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaun_Smith_(defensive_lineman)
You're a goddamn quarterback! You know what that means? It's the top spot, kid. It's the guy who takes the fall. It's the guy everybody's looking at first - the leader of a team - who will support you when they understand you. Who will break their ribs and their noses and their necks for you, because they believe. 'Cause you make them believe. That's a quarterback.

Cassel can lead us.
Meh stats don't matter
I don’t want to see many stats regarding the NT, if he’s doing his job the linebackers will have the great numbers.
how about this...
I didn’t know muc about Smith so I wik’d him. How about this connection:
Early years
Smith attended Midwood High School in Brooklyn and Wichita Heights High School in Wichita, Kansas.
College career
Smith played for two years as a defensive lineman for Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas. He then transferred to University of South Carolina where he played as a reserve defensive end his junior and senior years. He recorded 11 tackles in 12 game appearances his senior year.
good detective work..
but Shaun Smith?! Reall?! Is anyone excited about this at all? What has he done? Do u really think this no-name makes us better? Another guy on the team that’s it!!
his last full season (2007) was pretty good
62 tackles, 2 sacks
2008 wasn’t bad, 36 tackles
didn’t really play last year…
he’s not THE answer… but his presence would help

i don’t know much about this guy but according to his stats on nfl.com, the games where he was a starter in the browns’ 34 D, he played exceptional. im excited
dhalsim, beat the game
level 8, hella geat
IF we sign him...
It’ll be cheap. And he’ll be competing for a spot on the roster.
From your other comments, you don’t seem to realize it takes 53 men to make up a roster.
No one is saying this guy is going to be a probowler.
.
no clue, i don’t know much about the guy… lol. just my take on his game splits though: he played pretty good.

yeh
crennel must have liked him…….but i think if we draft or trade for another NT….ron could be gone
yes...
a true NT would help buy time, while they draft a rookie and get him up to speed

He's played in Romeo's scheme before as a true NT.
That alone makes him better than Edwards, who is too small and not strong enough to play NT.

confusion
All of you are saying Saun Smith was on the Clevland Browns. I just checked nfl.com. The only NT Saun Smith is listed on the Cincinatti Bengals’ roster, & he’s a RFA! If this is the guy we’re talking about, what was the Bengals’ tender offer? What’s he going to cost us?
Low picks.
He’s not a starter, so they didn’t tender him high.
He used to play for the Browns while Romeo was there. They moved him to the Bengals this year.

I don't think I'd want to give up picks for this guy
he didn’t really even play much at all in 2009

Sorry, meant no tender.
Dunno where my mind was there.
They let him walk.

oh.. in that case...
I’d sign him, at least for a ‘tryout’

Yeah, not the "major upgrade" that we need
But most likely an upgrade over what we had. Might’ve just been scheme differences in Cincy that kept him off the field.

still confused
OK…I just checked the link to this guy’s home page. It seems we’re all talking about the same guy. Apparently nfl.com needs to do some updating.
well that's just a freakin scoop
there is no way that he would change his logo on his own twitter page if something wasn’t afoot. me humbly thinks this deserves front page. I like the fact that some folks seem to be excited to be here. Crennel and Weis have really upped the cred factor and helped offset the FA repellant known as our record.
same guy as in this post...

We’re told the interest in Smith is due in large part to the presence of Crennel. The Chiefs worked Smith out back in October without signing him to a contract.
Smith is listed at 6’2" and over 320 pounds, which is good size for a 3-4 nose tackle.
Our source believes a deal is on the horizon but we’ve yet to confirm. Smith’s agent had not responded to our email request as of this posting.

"Chiefs have a player in the building taking a physical (not Thomas Jones related). Stay tuned"
Did we ever find out who that player was?
I have been following pretty close and the only person I heard that was confirmed to be in KC was Justin Fargas.
nothing confirmed
but, we are all hoping it was Lilja or Smith
considering KC already worked Smith out in October… maybe they liked him, but he wasn’t 100% healthy yet… so they would need him to pass a physical before signing him?

hopefully we can get both these guys
Lilja may not be a beastly run blocker, put he knows how to block when the QB is in the shotgun! Sign em both up!

Watch this guy be our starter and be good
Dude is a tough SOB who Crennel loves. Has the height and weight, and is still young. If Crennel speaks highly of him, sign him up. Lets free up our early draft picks as much as possible!
amazing detective work here on AP, folks
Larry’s Fanshot pretty much confirms that Smith was the player getting a physical today…
so, as long as he passed… they should announce the signing this week, you’d think

I think this is a really good pickup
I think it keeps us for reaching for a NT in the draft… if a guy like Cody is still around at our 2b or later pick… then he makes a lot of sense for us. I know a ton of people weren’t that happy with ron edwards but much of his problem was that he simply played too many downs.
I agree.
I think having Shaun Smith would just make Ron Edwards that much better, if only because Edwards won’t get worn down by the end of the game.
Let’s not forget that part of Edwards’ problems last years came from him not having a reliable back-up for most of the season (after we traded Tank Tyler) and that our defense was on the field a lot.
If you look at his Twitter page now he is following the Chiefs Twitter page as well!
So you think you are so important that no one can replace you? Put your finger in a bucket of water and pull it out. Does it leave a hole? Nope, just some ripples that eventually calm themselves!
