Chris Chambers Didn't Want To Leave Kansas City

Here's some encouraging news this morning (via Arrowheadlines)

"All along, I wanted to be here," Chambers said to the Kansas. "I knew how I felt and I knew how the team felt and that eventually we were going to get something done."

Chambers went on to tell the Star that the Chiefs embraced him as soon as he came onto the team mid-season.

He also said that a big reason he came back was the presence of Matt Cassel.

"Matt Cassel and I built a relationship over the past three months, which I never had with a quarterback. He’s a guy I wanted to play with. He was definitely a huge part in me wanting to return."

Key player wants to return and he believes in the new, young quarterback.

Not a bad situation, right?

i thought no one wanted to play here because of Haley?

Isnt he to mean or something?

Regardless of who the Chiefs pick at #5 overall, Whitlock will call it the worst pick in the history of the Chiefs. Heres to hoping that #5 pick runs Whitlock out of town.....

We are on the right track, I'm tellin' ya.

West coast player likes it in KC? Has a rapport with the new quarterback? Wants to stay for the team AND himself? The team embraced him? We’ve got it goin’ on.

The things Chambers says here are very cool.

It’s nice to hear what players are thinking about the direction of the team and coaching and about relationships on the team…that’s a first step to success there…

smart..

and justifiable. Continue re signing contributors and try to fill a few holes, all while spending litte money.

Jones would be nice, for sure.

Any word on whats going on at the moment with DJ?

I heard on John Clayton on Mike and Mike and he said....

…Thomas Jones was trying to get the Browns and (I think) the Chargers interested but he thought it was just an attempt to run up his value. He thinks Jones wants to get a starting gig but didn’t think that was a good possibilty. I came into the interview late and I was driving so I may have gotten some of the info wrong but I think that’s about it.

My bold prediction and I think our best chance at moving down in the 1st. Bret Favre retires, Tavarris Jackson is not retained or leaves and the Vikings trade up, with our beloved Chiefs, for Jimmy Claussen.

WRITE IT DOWN!

More proof of the intangibles Cassel brings to the table

He might not have the raw talent of an elite QB, but he definitely has, IMO, the leadership attitude and the want-to.

The rest can be coached.

Thats why I will always back up Cassel

Ups and downs, this guy will keep playing with maturity and great attitude. And as you can see, it affects the other players around him.

i like cassel...as a backup

Matt cassel is a nice guy. that’s great but that doesn’t help him throw a deep ball. he’s the best we got but unfortunately its not good enough. Hopefully he also has a great work ethic

oh great up likes him

now i’m leery of the new guy :p

Seriously mates, when have I ever been sarcastic?

Oh and in case you were wondering, that hug offer is still there when you are ready UC :p

by Leaf on Mar 9, 2010 11:03 AM CST up reply actions

I don’t think he was saying he’s a nice guy but a leader that cares about his team. And he’s already proven he has great work ethics. I hope most of the players feel like this.

Great Move!

That is the best move the Chiefs have made this offseason. It partially makes up for them not doing anything else.

In your face Phillip Rivers.

I always knew that guy was a douche bag.

My sentiments are likely to be summed up with one of these 2 quotes:

"Shut the f--- up."- Matt Cassel
"WHAT THE F---?!?!"- Todd Haley

This is what you want to hear

This is why we traded for and then signed Cassel. He has “IT”. Guys want to play with him and for him and that is the most important quality in a QB. You can have a genius IQ and rocket arm, but if you reciever doesnt want to go over the middle and make a tough catch for you it is all for not. Great Quote!!

by CHEEFN58 on Mar 9, 2010 9:41 AM CST reply actions

I think Cassel has the IQ...

He needs to release the ball quicker and work on the deep pass. Both are coachable traits. I think Weis is going to put Cassel over the top over the next couple years.

Hey, I like it. Larry Johnson wanted out.

Chris Chambers wants to stay. What is not to like about that?

I think you guys read too much into comments like these....

Doesn’t every FA that gets re signed by his team say the same thing? You hear comments like these from every guy, it’s like they all have the same PR guy. I’m not saying its not true….but if someone like the Pats signed Chambers he’d "be so happy to be there, I reallly wanted to compete for a ring, etc etc "

by chicks_love_chiefs on Mar 9, 2010 10:06 AM CST reply actions

hey

they don’t always say they wanted to be here… we’ve had our fair share of the opposite in recent years. Does his comment have a lot of substance to it? Probably not, but I think he’s a team player and that’s what we need a lot of.

by ChiefsDude on Mar 9, 2010 11:58 AM CST up reply actions

Plus not every player says

“Matt Cassel and I built a relationship over the past three months, which I never had with a quarterback. He’s a guy I wanted to play with. He was definitely a huge part in me wanting to return.” Saying that he’s established a relationship with his quarterback that he’s NEVER had. He’s been in the league like 10 years and has been pretty good. Players usually say they want to return for their teammates or the city, not specifically one player. Shows a lot about Cassel IMO.

Exactly

He didn’t have to go into the Matt Cassel relationship he could have just said “ooh, I’m happy to be back, this place is the best, blah, blah…” I think it shows his true leadership amongst his teammates.

Coaches

I’ve been coached and I coach, when the kids say I’m ridin them, I remind them that if a coach stops getting on you, he has given up on you. I like Haley.

Chiefs are going to surprise alot of people in 2010 !!!!

by ChiefsMonster on Mar 9, 2010 10:34 AM CST reply actions

I coached high school sports for ten years and I think Haley is handling his team exactly right.

I totally agree with you. I’ve always felt that the guys who seem to resent Haley for being a hard ass either didn’t play sports themselves or were guys who resented the coaches who were hard asses.

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

Hopefully this starts the trend of players wanting and liking to come to KC because of the fans, certain key players, coaching staff, management and our franchise as one.
