Chiefs OC Charlie Weis Checkin' Out The Troy Pro Day?

I noticed on NFL.com this morning the listing of all the pro days going on today. I did a quick search through our Kansas City Chiefs draft interest tracker and didn't come up with any matches.

But that doesn't mean the Chiefs aren't there anyway.

According to a Troy Trojans fan site, Charlie Weis had breakfast with Troy QB Levi Brown and headed out to watch the pro day.

(It's not the best source in the world but it makes complete sense and it's a pretty random thing for someone to make up.)

Brown is a classic late round, Pioli-type quarterback. He's got great size (6'4", 229 pounds) and has good arm strength.

Brown's expected to be a late rounder -- as high as the fifth or sixth round and as low as an undrafted free agent.

The Chiefs are expected to have no picks in the sixth or seventh round (If we could ever confirm that the Alleman/Ndukwe trade was for a sixth rounder).

Those of you with Troy connections, chime in with who the Chiefs might be checking out.

[Update: The Troy SID confirmed it.]

Just put up a fanshot,

from a blog projecting us to get a non-compensatory 7th round pick. It’s next to last so no Mr Irrelevant this year.

Troy's got about 5 guys who might get late looks

Levi Brown – QB
Cam Sheffield – DE/OLB
Brandon Lang – DE/OLB
Boris Lee – MLB/OLB
Bear Woods – MLB

Oh, and maybe corner/safety Jorrick Calvin. He played in 2008 but was academically ineligible this past season

honestly

Levi, Cam and Boris are the only ones I would wager on. I think Lang will be a huge bust. Bear Woods has solid back up potential IMO.

Boris was a huge sensation in his first few years, leading the Sun Belt conference. He played well against great offenses, playing against UF in 07 and 09, Okie St in 07 and 08, BGSU in 09, the list goes on and on. Maybe a little undersized, but he’s got good pop, a good head on his shoulders, and has no character issues. Aside from Levi, he has the most pro potential IMO.

Dont overanalyze Troy’s alleged lack of quality competition. This crop of guys played agaisnt tougher teams than other Troy defensive standouts like Osi Umenyiora, Demarcus Ware and Sherrod Martin did.

he was injured. injured bad.

He could also be our Pat Barnes

well im a bit of a troy homer

but I truly beleive that Levi has a ton of NFL potential. And to illustrate that I wouldn’t say that about just anybody, the only other players Troy is putting out this year that I feel will excel in the NFL are Boris Lee and Cameron Sheffield, despite all of Lang’s hype.

Going in to the 2008 season, I went to the Troy spring game and saw Levi play and I wanted him to be the starter from the outset. However, he didn’t have as much eligibilty left and he wasn’t nearly as mobile as the other two QBs on the roster, Jamie Hampton and Tanner Jones, and in the wake of Troy-legend Omar Haugabook’s graduation, mobility was something rookie OC Neil Brown was looking for.

Then, midway threw the season, Hampton, the starter, got injured and although Jones finished that game, Levi won the starting position for the next game. In half a season, Levi was still in many ways able to rewrite Trojan passing record books, which isn’t the most impressive thing in the world, but it counts for something. And it wasn’t just agains teams like Southwest Missouri Vocational Baptist Tech presented by Autoparts.

Levi and a staunch defense lead the Trojans to a 31-3 lead late in the third quarter over defending national champions LSU in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night before poor clock management, poor play calling and dropped passes doomed the Trojans. Haha, good luck Texas Tech. It should also be mentioned that in his junior season, Brown threw just 3 interceptions to 15 touchdowns in my memory serves. In the bowl game that season against Southern Miss, Brown showed himself to be retardedly accurate. The kind of accurate that can breed overconfidence, but is worth it.

Brown played poorly to start the 2010 season and I had brief questions about his intangibles but I quickly got over that. The kid turned into an awesome team leader with a good personality, and you couldn’t ask for a better off the field character, seeing as Levi’s biggest passion is Africa and their plight.

However, LEvi turned it around in 2010, coming up just a few completions short of breaking the all time NCAA record of most completions without an interception. Brown also played very well against Dan LeFevour’s Central Michigan team.

he was injured. injured bad.

sorry:

from Troy’s Atheltic Director Ricky Hazel’s twitter:

http://twitter.com/TroySID

Strange sight of the day. Charlie Weis hanging out in the Troy University weight room. Must be pro day.

Furthermore, it looks like Zarah Yisrael is working out today. he was an olineman a while back and was the first overall pick in the inaugural draft for the now defunct AAFL. Again, from Hazel’s twitter:

Zarah Yisrael is a beast. 48 reps on the bench at 225. Doubled all the other guys.

and one more:

Carolina offensive coordinator and qb coach here. Wonder who they are looking at? @levibrown12 maybe?

he was injured. injured bad.

Hey Troy

How do you like Corey Robinson?

He went to HS at Lone Oak…like a few minutes away from me. He set all school records and state records. I believe his TD mark was a national record.

He was a beast!!

Is he projected to be a starter , ever?

Hell, we got Jared Allen from Idaho State!

It is damn important to not overlook these small schools. I am an Idaho State alum., and even watched Allen play. The Bengles suck, have sucked since the late seventies, when they won the Division IA, or whatever the hell it is called, National Championship. Allen was good, the 2 games I saw him in, but I didn’t think he was NFL level talent, considering the competition ISU plays, and still loses too. Now Lupati, from Idaho, is a big story, but at least he played in a bowl game, and got some National exposure. I can’t support the Bengles, so I am a traitor and am a Boise State nut, who also has a very talented CB, Kyle Wilson, that may go in the late first or early 2nd round.
