Chiefs UFA Wade Smith In Houston For A Visit
Another one of the developments we tracked over the weekend was the movement of Kansas City Chiefs unrestricted free agent Wade Smith.
Smith, who filled in at just about every spot on the Chiefs offensive line last year, started the weekend with a visit to the Buffalo Bills.
Reports were surfacing that it seemed a deal might be happening there because he was scheduled to meet with the media following the visit. However, talks with the Bills brass ran a little long and Smith had to hop on a flight to his next visit in Houston.
Last night he had dinner with Texans coach Gary Kubiak, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
Smith is visiting the complex today.
It's unclear if the Chiefs have made any attempt to re-sign him. From my perspective, Smith was a valuable piece of the Chiefs offensive line because of his versatility as a reserve.
Smith would be the second offensive lineman the Chiefs have lost. G/C Andy Alleman was not offered a tender and signed with the Indianapolis Colts over the weekend.

It really surprises me the Chiefs are willing to let him walk
I thought we would try hard to resign Smith
yea he was the best swingman on a crappy line
we have to set the bar higher, and realize that he was okay for us. Once we upgrade our line he would have got pushed out anyways.
Regardless of who the Chiefs pick at #5 overall, Whitlock will call it the worst pick in the history of the Chiefs. Heres to hoping that #5 pick runs Whitlock out of town.....
There is no let him walk to it.
He is a free agent and unless the Chiefs offered to over pay him from the beginning there is no way he does not go out and see if there are better offers out there. I’m thinking we made him a reasonable offer and told him shop around and we may or may not be willing to match or exceed another teams offer. That’s the way FA works.
just reminds me a bit of jimmy wilkerson...

KC Will Trade Derrick Johnson
Pioli may have made him an offer and he said "thanks, but I'd like to think about: it"
I’d like to see him back, but it’s not the end of the universe if he goes elsewhere

hi, Mo!
5 minutes!!!
If I recall, Haley is pretty high on Smith
So, I’d tend to agree with upamtn that we probably already made our offer. He may be back yet, but we won’t overpay for him.

I figured when alleman was not retained...that smith would be

If Brown will ever start an NFL game.
I’d put the odds at 10-1.
Let smith walk
We have a ol that did not get to play last year. If he dose good we only need a center and OL is complete .

they can have him
I do not want us to give up a draft pick for a malcontent like Marshall … or anyone else, for that matter

I read that...
…many vets will be available after the draft (possible Terrell Owens, LT, etc) because teams are willing to go through the draft and then fill needs with vets. I think we may do the same. Many players will get walking papers this yr after this deep deep draft. We can find a vet lb and o-lineman for sure. I’f really like Wade to stay though. Vet presence could help rookies. We have too many serious needs at too many positions so we have to be patient. Lets shoot for 7-9 to 8-8 this yr and next yr fill the final remaining holes.
