Former Raiders RB Justin Fargas Visiting The Chiefs

The Oakland Raiders released RB Justin Fargas this morning and not long after that news leaks out that the Kansas City Chiefs have a visit set up with him.

The Chiefs looking at a Raider hours after he's been released? Let the rivalry continue!

Star-divide

The Chiefs also reportedly have a visit set up with Thomas Jones on Monday obviously looking for running back help.

The Raiders claimed Fargas failed his physical thus the reason for his release. And of course Fargas came out and said that he was as healthy as can be and he'd be ready to play today.

"I was told by the coach that they were moving in a different direction," Fargas told David White of the San Francisco Chronicle. "They said it was strictly about money. ... I know some things were put out there, I guess they said I didn't ass a physical. I'm a little disappointed by the way it happened but I understand it's a business."

Fargas said he was "fine" when asked about the injury.

Fargas, 30, was originally a third round draft pick by the Raiders in 2003. His age shouldn't be a major concern because he's got just 827 career attempts in seven season.

The San Francisco 49ers have also expressed interest in him.

With Thomas Jones making his way to town on Monday, the Chiefs now have options at running back. They could be legitimately interested in both players or they could be using them against each other to secure the best contract.

H/T to 3GChief for the initial FanShot.

Didn't he fail a physical with Oakland

Yes he’d be cheaper than Thomas Jones but if we’re stooping down to picking up Raider scraps then that’s pathetic

Thought I read something that hes claiming he didnt fail it.

That they claimed he did but really just released him to avoid his bonus.

I think I’d prefer him to Thomas Jones. Less wear on the tires. Familiar with AFC west. And more accustomed to the complimentary role he’d have here. Plus he’d have some pretty good motivation to excel at least a couple of times a year.

Couldn't pass the physical....

Does that mean Cable out wrestled him or what?

OK...the Koolaid buzz is gone now. I'm forced to admit that the state of the team had deteriorated far beyond what I had realized. The good news is I get to start mixing up a fresh batch of koolaid for next year. Oh Yeah!

Have no problem Justin Fargas

However, we still need to sign Thomas Jones. Have Charles (Okay, not Charles), Jones, Fargas, Castille, Williams, and Batttle play it out in preseason for the 3-5 RB/FB spots that we will have on roster in 2010.

i like the way vargas runs. he runs angery. Ive hated watching him gash the chiefs. If he is in good health id say give him a chance. At the same time thomas jones would be nice too. He seems like a good leader.

I'd like to have Fargas over TJ

First of all, the Raiders have a weaker O-line than the Jets, but Fargas was still productive. He’s slightly younger, much less tread on the tires, familiar with the AFC west, and would probably be more willing to buy into the role he’d be playing here.

All jokes aside...

Fargas can run the rock. When in the game, he was oaklands best rb. I still say Jones, simply because everything ive heard has made him a lockeroom guy, which is good for maintaining morale…

Interesting application of fiscal responsibility here if they are playing them off each other to get the best deal. Interesting development in FA eh guys?

Either one would be great for the Chiefs….go Pioli and co!!!

I had no idea he was 30 years old

I wouldn’t mind him on the Chiefs. He seemed to be a decent RB for the Raiders and I bet he will cost a lot less than Thomas Jones.

Either one of those guys, Fargas or Jones, are not going to be the featured back anyway. We just need a guy capable of getting a yard on 3rd and 1.

by Leaf on Mar 7, 2010 8:06 PM CST up reply actions

it's funny

everyone thinks we just need a guy to get a yard at the goal line, but after last year, i’d trust JC over most backs in the league to get that done. i’m pretty sure we’re not looking for a guy that has a 1-2 YPC average; we’re looking for a guy that can help keep JC’s carries reasonable and be very productive while he’s doing it.

by E.C. on Mar 7, 2010 8:48 PM CST up reply actions

I would be happy with either Jones or Fargas.

I actually like getting players from either the Donks or the Raiders. After they have seen the bottom of the barrel, KC must seem like heaven. Plus they have added incentive to humiliate their former team. Anything which heaps humiliation on the Donks or the Raiders can’t be bad.

i like thomas jones more...

but ill take fargas as a 3rd stringer

You're a goddamn quarterback! You know what that means? It's the top spot, kid. It's the guy who takes the fall. It's the guy everybody's looking at first - the leader of a team - who will support you when they understand you. Who will break their ribs and their noses and their necks for you, because they believe. 'Cause you make them believe. That's a quarterback.

KC Will Trade Derrick Johnson

by SDChief on Mar 7, 2010 7:27 PM CST reply actions

Tough decision I like em both

Jones brings leadership and commands respect on and off the field. A guy at his age still managing a 1400 yard season out of a 3 back set? Hard not to root for him! At the same time tho, with Bush and Mcfadden, I’ve been hoping the Raiders would be dumb enough to release Fargas so we could pick him up and then let him loose on the AFC West as a Chief for a change!

Fargas has a motor that never quits. He’s not the best. He’s not the fastest. But his grit and determination give him a killer drive that he brings every down. I’ve been a Fargas fan for awhile. As much as I hated seeing him tear apart the Chiefs, he’s shouldered the load for a team stacked with terrific, but wasted, talent. And while the spotlight’s been focused on those “talents” Bush, Mcfadden, Asamoagh, Heyward-Bey, he’s continued to bring it at a high level without much talk every game anyway. I respect that. Either one of these guys would be excellent additions. Both preferably =)

Thomas Jones and the Lombardi, DO IT!

by shotty on Mar 7, 2010 7:36 PM CST reply actions

either one is fine

both would be overkill, I think

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* Pioli will make at least one trade in the offseason, and 2 trades during the draft
* I'd prefer "lightning and lightning" as opposed to "lightning and thunder" when it comes to RBs
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* keep Albert at LT, upgrade the positions that NEED upgrading.C, RG, NT, S, LB

by stagdsp on Mar 7, 2010 7:48 PM CST up reply actions

No maybe not

If the unthinkable happened and Charles get hurt.
Thomas could move to 1 and Fargus to to 2.
Lot’s of possibilities for both and no draft picks involved.
Next year we could draft a rb or 2012 heaven help us :)

I wouldn't be upset by signing Fargas

My only concerns with him are injury related. But I imagine he would come fairly cheap.

it says a lot about his character for not getting overly pissed at the team that just threw him under the bus.

by Leaf on Mar 7, 2010 8:11 PM CST reply actions

I would be happy with either

Thomas Jones would be prefered for a number of reasons, but Fargas has his plus sides:

-Former Raider, will be motivated for at least 2 games per year
-Former Raider, will give us some insight to their team
-Younger than Thomas Jones
-Played behind O-Lines just as bad as ours and still had decent production

Wow, I can’t believe I just said two positive things about being a former Raider. Forgive me, AP.

One thing is for sure, by bringing two good running backs in for visits, Pioli will give both parties’ agents incentives to drive the price down. Gives Pioli a lot more leverage in negotiations.

by Nick Britt on Mar 7, 2010 8:11 PM CST reply actions

A great question

With Charles busting out.
Why would both make there 1st visits to KC?

because they're happy to be part of a team, or running back by committee

and they both know that we’re not really looking for a guy to run into the pile and get a yard two or three times a game, contrary to popular belief, we’re looking for a guy that can be productive with about 50-75% of Jamal’s carries

by E.C. on Mar 7, 2010 8:59 PM CST up reply actions

Fargas has a lot left in the tank and is a big powreful son of a gun. either way i have faith, go CHIEFS!!
