A Question To All Pioli Supporters (Satire)
I know it's been said before, but I'd like to be allowed the opportunity to expand just a bit on some previous comments made by myself as well as others today on the most awesome site in the universe: Arrowhead Pride (sponsored by Facebook, Twitter, Price Chopper, Yahoo, Toyota and the NFLPA)
A recent post asked the basic question: What qualifications do you, or I, or any of us have that allows us to be regarded as experts in the field of professional football and thus claim that we might know more than The Almighty Hisself: Scott Pioli. To which I respond in kind to those of you who seek to keep the name of Scott Pioli free of besmirchment and ask: What qualifications do YOU have that allows you to DEFEND Scott Pioli from any and all manner of evil, wicked blog attack by fans of our beloved Chiefs? Are you an attorney at law specializing in libel and/or slander cases? Do you hold stock in the Chiefs, and if so please open your portfolio to public viewing as per some law or another. Have you had experience defending public figures in other areas such as newsprint, magazines or Wikipedia?

Arrowhead Pride is a public forum, granted, but for those of you who think you are "all that" and then some, please tell the rest of us (who are, of course, only SOME of that, or in a few cases, some of something else that shall remain nameless) how you are so uniquely qualified, by profession or personal practice and a priori knowlegde, to so soundly if not convincingly defend Scott Pioli?

On behalf of Pioli bashers everywhere, I look forward to seeing your numerous explanations, lame though they may be, with anticipation that is rivaled only by my overwhelming exuberance for the word "redonkulous" which, as I have previously noted in comment elsewhere, I have hereby laid claim to on behalf of Arrowhead Priders from around the globe.

I assume the site decided to collapse under the weight of FA transactions that weren't going to happen anyway?
I avoided AP on purpose for that reason.

Whoever said you can't question Pioli?
Pioli supporters have as much right to defend Pioli, as much as the non-supporters have to question him.
ChiefsFan90s - I've long been a staunch Pioli and Haley critic, as most regulars have long known ...
… the funny thing is that the last few days I’ve been defending him from those who keep wanting him to sign every FA on the market in some willy-nilly fashion, regardless of cost (draft-pick wise, money itself who cares, Hunt and the NFL have plenty)
the Good Rev Slappy had a post yesterday, and then a lot of comments earlier this morning that made me wonder if we all weren’t taking everything, and ourselves, a bit too seriosuly … thus this little diatribe … hats off to worthy criticisms, pro and con, and healthy debate in a democratic society
thanks for the comments!

Ninja - I haven't looked too closely at next yr's schedule but it HAS to be better than last year
… so I can’t imagine another start like that … if so, I’ll be right there with you, but I’m holding out hope for an excellent draft this year, which means a lot of improvement across the board
so goes the theory

I find myself on both sides of the argument...
Depending on my mood.
I was mad at first about the inactivity….but now I am pissed at the people who are trashing the Chiefs and Pioli for, ummm, his inactivity.
I can only be mad at my Chiefs for so long until I read something positive that can turn me around quick.

Don't blame you.
Find myself on both sides of the argument, but has more to do with the fact I just love to argue. In reality, I’m all for giving Pioli 3-5 years to turn this thing around. However if someone gets smugged while defending Pioli (and viversa), my point of view might change one way or another for a little while.
good thoughts, Matt, thanks for the comment
as I’ve noted above and elsewhere, I’ve bashed Pioli in the past but have defended him lately … and I’ll continue to speak out on what I think is the best way to go
right now that does NOT include high-priced FAs that entail us giving up a draft pick … and I think Pioli thinks the same way (sure hope he does)

This surely is a very stressful time at AP.
So many newbies with so many STRONG opinions about everything. Its hard to read some of these comments.

Predictions:
1) Fans will feel just scads better from mid-to-end of the 2010 season.
2) During the 2021 season, Ryan Succop will become the Chiefs’ all-time leading scorer with 1469 points.
Speaking only for myself
I do not consider myself a protector of Pioli but an enemy of negativity. I just don’t get it. Why would anyone want to only focus on the crappy stuff and walk around pissed off all the time? I’m not out of touch with reality, I know we aren’t good yet and have a lot of work to do. I’m not calling for us to make the playoffs next year. I just see some things that give me hope for the future. I know there are others like me that like to stay positive so when this place gets bogged down with negativity I try to put something out there to counter it. I see it as more of a yin and yang of AP though. I don’t question anyone’s right to attack or question what the Chiefs are doing. I even agree with some of the complaints. I just can’t set up camp in “bitch and moan” land and stay there. That to me is “redonkulous”.

Sir i enjoy your wisdom on these matters . Sometimes i disagree with you sometimes i don’t . I have been a fan for 45 years the only thing that i can say is the CHIEFS would be nothing with out fans . for every person that puts a ass in a seat they are very important . they should be able to say what ever they want . Because Pioli only listens to his self .

one disagreement though … I do think Pioli will listen to Haley, Weis, Crennel and that Hunt fella

Redonkulous is ridiculous, unless.....
your talking about the donkulous donkeys.
We are all anxious, nervous basket cases waiting for something to happen. We so desperately need to acquire some good solid free agents because of all our glaring needs. Hopefully, Pioli’s on the phone filling a couple of those needs.
I cant defend Pioli if he doesn’t fill at lease two on our needs via free agency. we can probably only count on three or four of our draft picks panning out. So free agency is Colossal if we are expecting to field a decent team this year… It’s all hanging in the balance..It’s redonculous…thats what it is.
Brodie's better than Cassel
good comment, thanks choirboy
of course, most of us are basket cases anyway … (won’t krayfish love reading THIS comment!)

As a purveyor of positivity
I find it absolutely necessary to counter ridiculous negativity.
My qualifications? Time after time in the world of business I have had to enter into a situation where a team of people had totally broken down and things were not running well. I will openly say that the scale of the breakdown and the public view of it were in all cases much smaller than an NFL team, but the principles are the same. It is a matter of having a plan, taking things one small step at a time, and most importantly being consistent in both your own behavior and what you expect from your people. Little by little, bit by bit, day by day you have to keep chipping away and suddenly people start to “get it”. Then you keep on and more people get it. Before you know it things are running well. But in the meantime, there are people who are unhappy about your style, or what you ask to be done, and you either sell your case and convince them, or you part ways with them. Some of them may even be really good at what they do, they just will never fit what you are working toward. It is more important that you win the war than a few battles that will mean nothing in the long run.
Because of my personal life experiences, I see the same type of approach being taken to building the Chiefs now. Therefore, I am on board with Pioli and his henchmen. Thank you for asking.
OK...the Koolaid buzz is gone now. I'm forced to admit that the state of the team had deteriorated far beyond what I had realized. The good news is I get to start mixing up a fresh batch of koolaid for next year. Oh Yeah!

I am Bewsaf...Nuff said. :-)
Looks like the “Bring-The-Bling” faction is hacked. Can’t say I thought many of the FA that have come off the market were ones the Chiefs would want…maybe one.
For a team that values their draft picks so much…its hard to see them getting a RFA at the expense of losing a high draft pick.
Bewsaf
I agree, as do many others ... the best bang for the buck is thru draft
fun seeing some of the “debates” lately, but people need to relax I think and realize it’s only a movie, only a movie, only a movie …

The most upsetting thing to me as a Chiefs fan
is the franchise’s history of poor drafting. Pick after pick went by under Peterson’s tenure where the guy I liked in the draft was passed over for someone who never lived up to expectations in KC (for 2 VERY obvious examples: I liked John Henderson over Ryan Sims [although hindsight now suggets Haynesworth would’ve been an even better pick] and Mason Crosby over Justin Medlock…I could go on and on year by year but it’ll just make me mad).
I’m supporting Pioli until he gives me long-term reasons not to. However, that doesnt mean I dont question things he does or doesnt do. Even knowing how critical 34 linemen are, I still cant understand why he didnt draft Eugene Monroe last year and let Alphonso Boone play LE for a year. I still dont understand why no interior linemen were addressed last year when guys like Antoine Caldwell and Jonathan Luigs were falling into the 4th round. Even more perplexing about that is when you consider the fact that he obviously felt an upgrade at center was needed since he attempted to sign Jason Brown, yet ignored that position in the draft. Hell, keeping 4 tight ends on the roster all of last year is something I still cant wrap my head around.
This year’s draft is as critical as any I can remember. I’m almost anticipating Pioli to make picks that I dont agree with, but I’m ok with that because I’m hoping that in 3-4 years I’m eating my words. I held out that hope for Carl Peterson far too long but it unfortunately never happened. Maybe I’m too much of an optimist, but Pioli’s track record is enough for me to give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being.
The studs from the 2010 draft class will be: DT Ndamukong Suh, S Eric Berry, RB C.J. Spiller, RB Jahvid Best, WR Arrelious Benn, WR Golden Tate, WR Mardy Gilyard, OT Charles Brown, CB Kyle Wilson and S Chad Jones
nice comment and thank you!
I think if you look at last year as simply “evaluation of talent” and “settling in” then it’s not as bad … I do think Pioli needs to have a good, strong draft this year, and I do hope he keeps all his draft picks (so far, so good)
OLine should be addressed in 2nd round (I do hope so) and with the players in this year’s draft, I know Defense will get some good help as well
Pioli’s made some moves that I have issues with, nobody agrees with everything all the time … for the moment, even though I’ve been a critic in the past, I’ll see how this shakes out with the draft, etc and go from there

Speaking of Pioli's moves
I just dont want to see him reach for players (particularly a NT) and, even though I like LSU safety Chad Jones, part of me will be upset if we spend a 2nd round pick on SS because it’ll basically be replacing Pollard with the exact same thing.
I dont care how critical NT is for a 34 defense, there are 22 positions and we’re not all that spectacular at any of them. I just want to see BPA because teams this depleted of talent need to infuse as much talent as possible, regardless of position.

draft is always a crapshoot ... as many holes as we have damn near anyone should be a good pick and fill a need
a lot of people think berry at Safety in 1st round is the best way to go … maybe
Williams maybe at NT, is he a reach? if BPA is Clausen would you still want him? not me … Berry would be ok, Spoon would be cool, Williams if they see enough in him works in my mind
fun to guess who they might get, we’ll find out soon
