Chiefs' Charles Wants To Win Offensive Player Of The Year

Jamaal Charles accepted last night the Kansas City Chiefs team MVP award -- known as the Derrick Thomas award -- as voted on by his teammates. He was grateful to all those that supported including his grandpa, who had passed away last season.

"I wanted to honor his name," Charles said.

The Chiefs team MVP award isn't the end goal for Charles as he said he's setting his sights on a much larger goal in 2010.

Star-divide

"Hopefully next year I'll be here accepting another award. Not the Chiefs award but the offensive player of the year award," he said smiling.

Somehow I think he is very serious in that regard despite the smiles. Also there last night at the 101 Banquet in Kansas City was Peyton Manning accepting the AFC offensive player of the year award.

"Next year," Charles continued, "I just want to start off like I started this year. I want to bring back tradition to the Chiefs as a winning organiation. I love winning. I won all through college and high school.

"I just want to bring back the winning to the community and win more games for you all. Hopefully we can do that."

Man this guy turned out to be a brilliant draft pick

I’m so glad we have him. Fun to watch and his attitude is great.

I like

how jamaal is cocky and not in a bad way. I think the best players carry that attitude.

agree

confidence, maybe a little cocky, is a good thing. arrogance and an inflated ego is not.

Seriously mates, when have I ever been sarcastic?

Oh and in case you were wondering, that hug offer is still there when you are ready UC :p

lets get it done!

You're a goddamn quarterback! You know what that means? It's the top spot, kid. It's the guy who takes the fall. It's the guy everybody's looking at first - the leader of a team - who will support you when they understand you. Who will break their ribs and their noses and their necks for you, because they believe. 'Cause you make them believe. That's a quarterback.

Hopefully this is a mis-quote
“Next year,” Charles continued, "I just want to start off like I started this year. I want to bring back tradition to the Chiefs as a winning organiation. I love winning. I won all through college and high school.

Is he saying he wants to start next year on the bench? And being deactivated in early games?

Broncos game

The last game of the season was actually this year.. So he has started the year with a beast of a game!

8-8 is possible in 2010 and it wont take breaking the bank on 2nd tear free agents getting lucrative contracts because the free agent pool is so weak this year!

OK that makes sense

I am down with that…..Hopefully with Jones backing him up and teaching him how to earn the respect of his teammates.

by bonesjackson on Mar 7, 2010 3:33 PM CST up reply actions

He wants to start off like he "started"

From the time he actually got the start. that was my assumption and understanding

This is a drastic contrast with our

former running back whose main goals were a fat paycheck and a pussy posse.

I had a feeling

Watching him at Texas was fun. He carved up Nebraska pretty bad. And you got to love most Texas running backs, They usally have a stable.

wouldnt shock me, he CAN do it all on the field

Scott Pioli will find a way to make NT the biggest offseason priority.

I just hope we don't put too much on him

He would last a little longer with less of a load .

You know how to make this guy last...

get him some help, like a solid O-line, and a real passing attack. Then the real J.C. will show his skills..
