In Pioli I trust

Personally, I am happy with the Chiefs free agency period (and whole offseason for that matter) thus far. All of those "headline" deals the media always hype have a low success rate (T.O., Haynesworth, Cutler, etc.). I could not ask for more from the Chiefs so far. I, for one, think the Chiefs have a lot of very talented youthful players already. The problem is they have no leadership and confidence. Success rate goes next to zero if you do not have confidence you will succeed. The Chiefs hired some of the best coaches in the game to be the coordinators to provide the leadership these young talented players need to gain the confidence they need to win as a team. What more could you ask for?

Some will say we need big time play makers from FA. I disagree. Sometimes the players you overpay are already on the decline in their careers. Why would that make any sense? Would you go out and pay the 2010 Ford F-150 sticker price for a 2000 F-150? I believe Pioli has made all of the correct moves this free agency period. The names signed yesterday have very good agents, because the teams all overpaid in my opinion. Just throwing money at players does not make them play any harder. *cough*cough*LJ*cough*

The draft is where the magic happens. You know, they say Pioli is a guru. So I trust in the professionals that they know what they are doing. I just think of the big time play makers last year and they all seem to have been making the plays for the team that drafted them. Harvin, Cushing, Polamalu, Revis, Manning (first one of course), Johnson, etc.

I can not wait until the draft. This year is so deep that I believe we will be able to find two play-making starters for each sides of the ball. I hope they address the safety issue within the first two rounds. I would prefer Berry, but there are numerous high caliber safeties this year that could be the fast, roving, big-play ability safety our slow and aged defense needs. I doubt Pioli has enough magic to find a sleeper safety past round two. You never know though.

I trust Pioli and the brass will make the right decisions.
