Former Chiefs OL Wade Smith Appears Headed To The Bills

Reading the tea leaves it appears former Kansas City Chiefs OL Wade Smith will head to the Buffalo Bills.

Moments ago the Bills issued a release via text message that Smith would meet with the Buffalo media. However, indications are that a deal is not complete yet.

Star-divide

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk explains that this is an approach employed by several teams. The team meets wit the media before a deal is done and usually the player ends up signing a deal.

"But the approach carries with it some risk," Florio writes.  "After all, Smith could stroll to the podium today and say, "My visit here really sucked.  Can someone drive me to the airport?  Now?""

Smith reportedly had a visit set up with the Houston Texans, too.

As I said yesterday, the Bills are probably the best choice for Smith to get some playing time because their offensive line is in arguably the worst shape of all the 32 NFL teams. He should see some playing time there.

If he signs, Smith will be the first Chiefs unrestricted free agent off the market.

Hey tomahawk

I renewed my season tickets. I moved lower to row 4. Maybe you’ll have some good seats when I get too frustrated and quit going to games.

lol awesome man!

Hopefully you wont and go to all of them though!

I think

It’s odd that you have to pay your season ticket deposit the Monday before free agency begins. They want to get you locked on before they let you down in free agency.

I wish I understood why we let Smith walk.

I don’t see where the quality of our OL lineup doesn’t have a place for Wade at least thru training camp.

Yeah...but we beat the donkeys like a rented mule.

Because

We are going to get a real center and then Rudy takes over Smith’s role

by DTfranchise on Mar 6, 2010 9:52 AM CST up reply actions

you would think

That it means they are going to be adding some quality OL guys.

They liked Smith

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* Pioli will make at least one trade in the offseason, and 2 trades during the draft
* I'd prefer "lightning and lightning" as opposed to "lightning and thunder" when it comes to RBs
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* keep Albert at LT, upgrade the positions that NEED upgrading.C, RG, NT, S, LB

Those decisions are best made when the real center is on the roster.

Wade show the ability to backup all of the line positions. Rudy has just shown that he is not a very good center.

lol

Can’t argue with you there

It is kind of weird

I agree it strongly signals we’re going to work on the OL in the draft and FA. But, if it was me, yesterday I would have signed Weigmann or Mawae, signed Smith, and cut Niswanger.

I guess we could keep NiceWanger through camp and then cut him if he doesn't measure up.

kinda makes me sad to see what was probably our best "blue collar" guy leave

Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!

I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

I hope stag and kabrink are right ... that this and other moves mean ...

… Pioli is serious about working on the OLine

and I hope he does that thru the draft … please, please build thru the draft, Mr Scott Pee-oh-LEEEEEEEEE

although

we still differ! I know you want to build at LT. I want to build at Center and Guard. Let the debate begin…..again.

En guard, mon ami!

I’m just about to the point of not caring who or what position … as long as …

1) we build with young players thru the draft
2) we improve OLine
3) we inprove DLine
4) we improve LB and Secondary
5) improve WR
6) add depth at RB

pretty much open to anyone OTHER than Dez Bryant in the draft … thinking Okung will not be there for us, so likely D side pickup in first (if so, we need OL in 2nd for sure)

does his name rhyme with

derrick cherry?

You're a goddamn quarterback! You know what that means? It's the top spot, kid. It's the guy who takes the fall. It's the guy everybody's looking at first - the leader of a team - who will support you when they understand you. Who will break their ribs and their noses and their necks for you, because they believe. 'Cause you make them believe. That's a quarterback.

Berry is NOT my "first choice" at the #5 slot ... that said, I think Suh and Okung will be gone by then

… and Berry is likely the pick, but I do think we have MUCH bigger needs than at the Safety position (NT and OLine) … Berry to me would be “ok” and yeah, an upgrade for the secondary, but … not the first huge hole I’d like to see filled with our #5 overall pick

true but anyone at NT or Oline with the 5th pick would prolly be a reach

unless its okung but he’ll probably be gone. thats why i was hoping ( and i was for sure it would happen ) that we would upgrade a NT, offensive line, and maybe WR throguh free agency and fill the rest through the draft… but ahh things are deffintly not going as planned

or they are planning on picking up alot of Olinemen in the draft this year

Whats the offseason roster limit?

Yeah...but we beat the donkeys like a rented mule.

by Idahochief on Mar 6, 2010 10:45 AM CST up reply actions

I think we should defiantly draft a G/C/OT in the 2nd rd.

I’m not big on us spending our 5th overall pick on a OT. IMO we need to improve on the Defensive side first. But I’ll admit I wouldn’t be all that pissed off if we drafted Okung.

by chiefs_fan05 on Mar 6, 2010 11:09 AM CST up reply actions

keep in mind that a good OT can be very good at G spot ...

… but a G is usually NOT as effective if moved to OT spot

in other words: drafting an OT in 2nd round would NOT be a bad move … the guy from Maryland (Williams?) looks to be a beast, and if he falls to our 2A pick I’d love to have him just about anywhere on the OLine

I’d love Okung but I think he’s very likely to be long gone by #5 …

We are getting

As bad as the Arizona Cardinals…why dont we just let half the team go! haha.

by Coady on Mar 6, 2010 10:25 AM CST reply actions

I wouldn't mind

Taking Ladell Betts, Rock Cartwright, and Antwaan Randel El. All three released by Redskins.

Rock and Ladell both stocky strong backs who can catch out of the backfield. Randle El is a playmaker who has had his best years of his career as a WR in Washington.

Couldn’t hurt to bring them in and see what they can do.
