Reports: Chiefs, Ravens And Patriots Chasing Anquan Boldin
The words we've all been waiting for: The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly targeting Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Cardinals are getting closer to trading their star wide receiver.
Arizona is closing in on a long-anticpated deal to trade Pro Bowl wide receiver Anquan Boldin. Leading contender: Baltimore. KC also in.
However, Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times is reporting that the New England Patriots are the "front runner" to land Boldin after the Ravens pursued him.
The Cardinals are likely looking for draft picks in exchange for Boldin, who's in the final year of his contract.
The Chiefs hold a higher draft pick than both the Ravens and Patriots in every round. Previous reports have indicated the Cardinals would take a third round pick for Boldin but a bidding war could increase that price.
Stay tuned...

Three teams interested
Maybe this will end the ridiculous posts about him going for a 4th or 5th round pick
Hurry up
And get him Pioli! If we can get him AND chambers, our recieving core is McNasty haha

The ball is in Boldin’s court more than anyones. No team is going to trade for him without working out a long term deal for Boldin first, since he’s going into the last year of his contract. Would he really pick us over New England or Baltimore?
I don't think so
He’s NE bound if they are truly interested.

…I think we absolutlely have to get boldin. He is a veteran with great hands, and he isn’t afraid of anything!!! GO GET HIM!!!

Welker
Had quite the injury and I don’t expect him to be himself for at least another season if ever. Moss is getting quite old too. Pats almost need more WR help than me do.

No way they need more wr help or even almost need it more than us. have you seen or receivers? as of now its just bowe with wade and long lurking back there. we have the more obvious need of wr then they do. that is just absolutely crazy talk you have

We are NOT going to get him...No matter what!
There is no way in hell Q is going to choose KC over NE or Baltimore.
Face it, we are fans of the cheapest, most conservative team on the planet. We can’t even sign our own free agents let alone anybody else’s. Nobody wants to come here because Scott Pioli is just as much of a cheapskate as King Carl was. We will continue to eat our meals out of every other teams dumpsters because our ownership/management is too fucking cheap to field a decent team. If we don’t get a guy like Q AND can’t resign Chambers, we will have the worst record in the league next season. And Haley as well as Matt Cassel will end up losing their jobs because Pioli refuses to put any significant talent on this team.
Doesn't matter...
NE has a wealth of picks this year. There is no way we can or will be willing to match their offer. Hell, even if they didn’t draft a single player, they would still field a winning team. In our case, we need a stellar free agency period AND a kick ass draft just to hope to win 8 games.

Nothing is set in stone yet. I would venture to say that we would have to give up our 2a pick for Q. If the Pats want to offer their 1st then so be it.
Draft prediction top 10 - 1. Bradford 2. Suh (Chiefs trade up) 3. McCoy 4. Claussen (trade Campbell to Carolina, trade for J Brown) 5. Okung (Detroit) 6. Berry 7. Haden 8. Campbell 9. Davis (Bills trade for Vick) 10. Morgan (Jags draft Tebow in 2nd round) 2/23/09
If
we don’t get Boldin and don’t resign Chambers then I’m going to start questioning Pioli and how committed he is to this job of turning our Chiefs around
Why?
Boldin would be a nice pick-up but he hasn’t played a full season in a couple years with nagging injuries and Chambers is 30+ and closer to the end of his career than the beginning. If Pioli pull out a good draft with 3-4 starters then the franchise is moving in the right direction.
What nagging injuries?
I keep hearing this. What nagging injuries does he have?

How about that helmet to helmet hit he took?
A while ago. Many said he wouldn’t return much less come back that season. Could still be lingering and causing problems if he has a lot of helmet contact

How would that be a nagging injury?
To me a nagging injury is one that makes a player miss games year in and year out. Boldin only missed a couple weeks in one year when many thought he would miss the rest of the season. That to me is in no way a nagging injury. For example Ronnie Brown’s knees would be a nagging injury. Or Pennington’s shoulders.

Crazy talk
Boldin is a top 5 WR in this league and is worth more than a 3rd round pick. His floor is a 2.
Draft prediction top 10 - 1. Bradford 2. Suh (Chiefs trade up) 3. McCoy 4. Claussen (trade Campbell to Carolina, trade for J Brown) 5. Okung (Detroit) 6. Berry 7. Haden 8. Campbell 9. Davis (Bills trade for Vick) 10. Morgan (Jags draft Tebow in 2nd round) 2/23/09
With only one year left on his contract
He’s not top 5, I’m a big Boldin fan, but he’s not top 5.
Also King and Schefter have both speculated that it would take a 3rd to get him this year.
It may end up taking a 2, but I wouldn’t call it crazy talk.
Top 5?
He’s not even the best receiver on his current team for crying out loud. Quan is good, but he’s getting up there in age and has acquired a lot of wear and tear. No more than a 3rd, especially since the Chiefs third is like a late 2nd rounder this year.

Not me.
That doesn’t make any sense. Trade our valuable 1st round WR for an aging WR who isn’t as valuable at this point in his career? No freaking way would I do that. It would be a lateral move. The entire point of all this is to have 2-3 solid receivers on the field at the same time to take pressure off of each other, not to give up one solid receiver to pick up another.

“Of the three teams none could be more desperate to acquire a veteran than the Patriots.”

Not interested.
Giving up draft picks for a 2-3 year fix? Boldin’s a receiver for a team that needs to win now. Not for a team that is preparing to win 3-5 years down the road.
Pocket the pick. Keep Chambers and/or bring in Walters. With a 3rd round pick, you have a very good chance of picking up a Guard, Center, Right Tackle or Inside Linebacker who could be starters for 10 years (and yes, those are positions where it’s not hard to find starters at that part of the draft).
Dont mind this
But no thanks on Walters he sucks. Yoyo player poster child.
"Success is never ending, failure is never final."
I somewhat agree
I think we need play makers now, and I also think Boldin would do a good job of showing our young WR how to get it done. I think to make this team competitive again we are going to need a combo of both.

3 to 5 years?
God I hope not. Boldin would be a 3 plus year fix. WRs are not like running backs. They can preform at a high level all the way to their mid 30s.
Draft prediction top 10 - 1. Bradford 2. Suh (Chiefs trade up) 3. McCoy 4. Claussen (trade Campbell to Carolina, trade for J Brown) 5. Okung (Detroit) 6. Berry 7. Haden 8. Campbell 9. Davis (Bills trade for Vick) 10. Morgan (Jags draft Tebow in 2nd round) 2/23/09
+1

having good receivers who could catch last year would have made our OLine look much better

Boldin is 29!
The guy keeps himself in shape. He can probably play at a high level for at least 4 more years.
If it is a choice between him and Chambers I want Boldin.
If the Chiefs aren’t contending in 2 or 3 years, Boldin will be the least of our worries.

Re: Boldin
He’s also only played two complete 16-game seasons. If he can’t stay healthy young, how is he going to stay healthy after he hits 30 and has a lot of mileage in his body?
Terrific player. But not for a guy looking to build for the long-term.
But definetly a guy that will put asses in seats at Arrowhead.

Boldin only helps us IF we can keep Bowe and Chambers.
Otherwise, they’ll just double cover the other Wrs and our passing will suck just as bad as last year.
Re: Bowe/Chambers
Here’s the other point.
If you have Bowe/Chambers/Boldin, who plays the slot? Because none of those guys seem to be guys you want there. One of them is probably going to have to ride the pine. Bowe is the most underperfoming of the three, but do you really want to sit your young guy for two veterans on a team that’s probably not going to make the playoffs anyway/
When you go 3 wide
Boldin can play the slot.
He did it a lot in AZ. He likes it there, actually.
See, I don't like that kind of talk.
Who says we couldn’t make the playoffs with a few valuable additions. The Chiefs looked decent toward the end of the season and we have new coordinators who can make a big difference. Add some talent at NT, WR, and Center and this could look like a pretty damn good roster.
That’s quitter talk.

I dont think Q is a make or break guy
if we get him for a third, cool. If they want more than our 2b, eh, I’d pass.
For justice we must go to Don Pioli
we're already better than last year with our coaching staff
we just need to improve every year
1. Are they an upgrade over what we already have?
2. Do they have high football IQ?
3. Can they make a difference from Day 1?
4. Do they have a history of leadership?
5. Sign him up.

My bold prediction for 2010....The Chiefs win the AFC west with a 9-7 record, while the Chargers fall off, Denver remains the same, and Oakland, well enough said.

I imagine our low 2nd will get him...
Pretty much trading Tony G. for Anquan straight up….Would you like that deal?
Don't forget to be an AP-vangelist...Tell A Friend...
I would...
Tony G. was the man, but it would be a fair trade
yes because we only had one good receiver at the time and it was a TE
Honestly, as much as I loved Gonzo, he was holding us back in the receiver dept.

Re: Low 2nd
Absolutely not.
That’s prime territory to get a starting Nose Tackle or Center or Guard or maybe even a pass rusher to play opposite Hali. And those guys can play for 10 years.
These are moves that the Redskins make. Great teams build through the draft. If I felt really confident Boldin could play for 5 years, great. But he plays physical football, is approaching 30, and has been banged up a lot in the past. I don’t have confidence that he’ll continue to stay healthy when we’re finally good enough to start competing.
keeping him required too much money

Bowe had 2 great years during Tony's last 2 here.
How in the world was Tony “holding us back in the receiver dept.”
Please respond to the one that said that.
Not me, lol.

Good because Moss, Boldin, Welker would be just nasty.

2. Do they have high football IQ?
3. Can they make a difference from Day 1?
4. Do they have a history of leadership?
5. Sign him up.
a dream for me would be to nab boldin, deal bowe and somehow get wilfork for him
Vince Wilfork will be Scott Pioli's top offseason priority and will be a Chief.
KC Will Trade Derrick Johnson=
i said that earlier and nobody agreed

Why deal Bowe
Everyone talks about how they don’t want Boldin cause he is old and we should keep our young talent but everyone wants to trade our young talent ex. bowe and dorsey
by groundedchevy on Mar 5, 2010 3:56 PM CST up reply actions
boldin is NOT OLD...he had 4-5 good GOOD years...Bowe has bad hands...and bad work ethic.
Vince Wilfork will be Scott Pioli's top offseason priority and will be a Chief.
KC Will Trade Derrick Johnson=
More catches in less games than Calvin Johnson
Bowe is a premier WR. A few bad drops from some pretty poor QBs….It is very rare for a WR to put up stats Bowe has in their first 3 years especially with a 4 game suspension. 203 catches in 3 years isn’t too shabby
by groundedchevy on Mar 5, 2010 4:01 PM CST up reply actions
also top 3 in drops the past 2 years...
Vince Wilfork will be Scott Pioli's top offseason priority and will be a Chief.
KC Will Trade Derrick Johnson=
Also a horrible supporting cast
The drops our other WR had has something to say more about the QB I think
by groundedchevy on Mar 5, 2010 4:06 PM CST up reply actions
in the coaches doghouse and was suspended
i hope bowe turns out to be good, but if we can trade him for Wilfork…come on. I’m not saying trade him no matter what. But for one of the best 2 or 3 NT’s in the league at the most important position in our defense. Done deal
1. Are they an upgrade over what we already have?
2. Do they have high football IQ?
3. Can they make a difference from Day 1?
4. Do they have a history of leadership?

and wilfork is 28, casey hampton is 32 and just signed a 3 year deal

2. Do they have high football IQ?
3. Can they make a difference from Day 1?
4. Do they have a history of leadership?
5. Sign him up.
its bad if we want boldin because we want someone who can catch the ball
trading bowe to fill NT, our #1 need is a great deal for us. Maybe Bowe turns a corner and turns out to be as good as…..well wilfork at his position
1. Are they an upgrade over what we already have?
2. Do they have high football IQ?
3. Can they make a difference from Day 1?

yep...wilfork has such a greater value at this point to this team
Vince Wilfork will be Scott Pioli's top offseason priority and will be a Chief.
KC Will Trade Derrick Johnson=
I dont want to deal Bowe
I want him to become a true #1 receiver. Unfortunately it doesnt look like that is gunna happen so I say if we can trade him and then use that to get VW, Im all for it
I agree...I was a fan of drafting him, he just really has been a letdown in my opinion as a true 1 reciever that lacks speed
Vince Wilfork will be Scott Pioli's top offseason priority and will be a Chief.

Thats really good news if true
the pats had the firepower to snatch him away i dont know if Baltimore does
Season Ticket Holder Sec. 317 Row 19 seats 12 and 13
I cant wait to see the NEW ARROWHEAD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chiefs will be competing for a division title in 2010
If we want him hes ours really.
Every pick we have is higher thant he Ravens, we just have to match the round. I’m afraid their offering a second tho
If I was baltimore, I would be fine offering the 2 because they are pretty close...
Vince Wilfork will be Scott Pioli's top offseason priority and will be a Chief.
KC Will Trade Derrick Johnson=
I could see that
I’m sticking to my original prediction that our 3rd alone will do it.
Boldin is great but....
I don’t think he’s a legite #1 guy. Never has been. Great improvement over anyhting we got but not a true #1 IMO.
Even if he isnt
His mere presence on the field potentially turns Bowe into a true #1 guy.
"Success is never ending, failure is never final."
WRong if you think boldin can't be OUR number one. He is by far head and shoulders above
anyone we have.
instantly becomes our offensive star in the pass game
Vince Wilfork will be Scott Pioli's top offseason priority and will be a Chief.
KC Will Trade Derrick Johnson=
standards? the guy can catch the ball and a guy we can count on in big situations
something we DONT have now

Deal Bowe and our 2A(or 2B) to the Pats for Wilfork and their first rounder?

Funny because the NFP had them as the front runners.

The fact they say the "Pats are dropping out"
as opposed to “were turned down” makes me wonder if KC is putting up a fight and the Cards are letting them bid it out.
