Reports: Chiefs, Ravens And Patriots Chasing Anquan Boldin

The words we've all been waiting for: The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly targeting Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Cardinals are getting closer to trading their star wide receiver.

Arizona is closing in on a long-anticpated deal to trade Pro Bowl wide receiver Anquan Boldin. Leading contender: Baltimore. KC also in.

However, Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times is reporting that the New England Patriots are the "front runner" to land Boldin after the Ravens pursued him.

The Cardinals are likely looking for draft picks in exchange for Boldin, who's in the final year of his contract.

The Chiefs hold a higher draft pick than both the Ravens and Patriots in every round. Previous reports have indicated the Cardinals would take a third round pick for Boldin but a bidding war could increase that price.

Stay tuned...

Three teams interested

Maybe this will end the ridiculous posts about him going for a 4th or 5th round pick

The ball is in Boldin’s court more than anyones. No team is going to trade for him without working out a long term deal for Boldin first, since he’s going into the last year of his contract. Would he really pick us over New England or Baltimore?

I don't think so

He’s NE bound if they are truly interested.

We are NOT going to get him...No matter what!

There is no way in hell Q is going to choose KC over NE or Baltimore.

Face it, we are fans of the cheapest, most conservative team on the planet. We can’t even sign our own free agents let alone anybody else’s. Nobody wants to come here because Scott Pioli is just as much of a cheapskate as King Carl was. We will continue to eat our meals out of every other teams dumpsters because our ownership/management is too fucking cheap to field a decent team. If we don’t get a guy like Q AND can’t resign Chambers, we will have the worst record in the league next season. And Haley as well as Matt Cassel will end up losing their jobs because Pioli refuses to put any significant talent on this team.

by Chiefsfan1970 on Mar 5, 2010 3:05 PM CST reply actions

Doesn't matter...

NE has a wealth of picks this year. There is no way we can or will be willing to match their offer. Hell, even if they didn’t draft a single player, they would still field a winning team. In our case, we need a stellar free agency period AND a kick ass draft just to hope to win 8 games.

by Chiefsfan1970 on Mar 5, 2010 3:08 PM CST up reply actions

Chill out negative nancy

Nothing is set in stone yet. I would venture to say that we would have to give up our 2a pick for Q. If the Pats want to offer their 1st then so be it.

Draft prediction top 10 - 1. Bradford 2. Suh (Chiefs trade up) 3. McCoy 4. Claussen (trade Campbell to Carolina, trade for J Brown) 5. Okung (Detroit) 6. Berry 7. Haden 8. Campbell 9. Davis (Bills trade for Vick) 10. Morgan (Jags draft Tebow in 2nd round) 2/23/09

If

we don’t get Boldin and don’t resign Chambers then I’m going to start questioning Pioli and how committed he is to this job of turning our Chiefs around

by Chiefs1990 on Mar 5, 2010 3:05 PM CST reply actions

Why?

Boldin would be a nice pick-up but he hasn’t played a full season in a couple years with nagging injuries and Chambers is 30+ and closer to the end of his career than the beginning. If Pioli pull out a good draft with 3-4 starters then the franchise is moving in the right direction.

by groundedchevy on Mar 5, 2010 3:18 PM CST up reply actions

How about that helmet to helmet hit he took?

A while ago. Many said he wouldn’t return much less come back that season. Could still be lingering and causing problems if he has a lot of helmet contact

How would that be a nagging injury?

To me a nagging injury is one that makes a player miss games year in and year out. Boldin only missed a couple weeks in one year when many thought he would miss the rest of the season. That to me is in no way a nagging injury. For example Ronnie Brown’s knees would be a nagging injury. Or Pennington’s shoulders.

With only one year left on his contract

He’s not top 5, I’m a big Boldin fan, but he’s not top 5.

Also King and Schefter have both speculated that it would take a 3rd to get him this year.

It may end up taking a 2, but I wouldn’t call it crazy talk.

He’s not even the best receiver on his current team for crying out loud. Quan is good, but he’s getting up there in age and has acquired a lot of wear and tear. No more than a 3rd, especially since the Chiefs third is like a late 2nd rounder this year.

Not me.

That doesn’t make any sense. Trade our valuable 1st round WR for an aging WR who isn’t as valuable at this point in his career? No freaking way would I do that. It would be a lateral move. The entire point of all this is to have 2-3 solid receivers on the field at the same time to take pressure off of each other, not to give up one solid receiver to pick up another.

I would think it’s between u and Baltimore. He’d be the #1 on either team. Hopefully his familiarity with Haley will help even though he doesn’t have a choice. I’d imagine they’d have to offer a second or a 3rd and a player or two to outbid our 3rd.

by GenericBrand on Mar 5, 2010 3:37 PM CST reply actions

I think I'm the first one to say "Count me out"

Not interested.

Giving up draft picks for a 2-3 year fix? Boldin’s a receiver for a team that needs to win now. Not for a team that is preparing to win 3-5 years down the road.

Pocket the pick. Keep Chambers and/or bring in Walters. With a 3rd round pick, you have a very good chance of picking up a Guard, Center, Right Tackle or Inside Linebacker who could be starters for 10 years (and yes, those are positions where it’s not hard to find starters at that part of the draft).

by Jon Yoon on Mar 5, 2010 3:38 PM CST reply actions

Dont mind this

But no thanks on Walters he sucks. Yoyo player poster child.

"Success is never ending, failure is never final."

by GenericBrand on Mar 5, 2010 3:39 PM CST up reply actions

I somewhat agree

I think we need play makers now, and I also think Boldin would do a good job of showing our young WR how to get it done. I think to make this team competitive again we are going to need a combo of both.

by groundedchevy on Mar 5, 2010 3:39 PM CST up reply actions

3 to 5 years?

God I hope not. Boldin would be a 3 plus year fix. WRs are not like running backs. They can preform at a high level all the way to their mid 30s.

Boldin is 29!

The guy keeps himself in shape. He can probably play at a high level for at least 4 more years.

If it is a choice between him and Chambers I want Boldin.

If the Chiefs aren’t contending in 2 or 3 years, Boldin will be the least of our worries.

Otherwise, they’ll just double cover the other Wrs and our passing will suck just as bad as last year.

by Chiefsfan1970 on Mar 5, 2010 3:43 PM CST reply actions

Re: Bowe/Chambers

Here’s the other point.

If you have Bowe/Chambers/Boldin, who plays the slot? Because none of those guys seem to be guys you want there. One of them is probably going to have to ride the pine. Bowe is the most underperfoming of the three, but do you really want to sit your young guy for two veterans on a team that’s probably not going to make the playoffs anyway/

by Jon Yoon on Mar 5, 2010 3:45 PM CST up reply actions

When you go 3 wide

Boldin can play the slot.

He did it a lot in AZ. He likes it there, actually.

by kcsno56 on Mar 5, 2010 3:47 PM CST up reply actions

See, I don't like that kind of talk.

Who says we couldn’t make the playoffs with a few valuable additions. The Chiefs looked decent toward the end of the season and we have new coordinators who can make a big difference. Add some talent at NT, WR, and Center and this could look like a pretty damn good roster.

That’s quitter talk.

Re: Low 2nd

Absolutely not.

That’s prime territory to get a starting Nose Tackle or Center or Guard or maybe even a pass rusher to play opposite Hali. And those guys can play for 10 years.

These are moves that the Redskins make. Great teams build through the draft. If I felt really confident Boldin could play for 5 years, great. But he plays physical football, is approaching 30, and has been banged up a lot in the past. I don’t have confidence that he’ll continue to stay healthy when we’re finally good enough to start competing.

Bowe is a premier WR. A few bad drops from some pretty poor QBs….It is very rare for a WR to put up stats Bowe has in their first 3 years especially with a 4 game suspension. 203 catches in 3 years isn’t too shabby

I want Jones and Boldin. However, our O-Line finished strong. Let’s fix the defense with a couple early draft picks. (Like Berry)

If Baltimore passes I think T.O. is their next target so they may give up.

My bold prediction and I think our best chance at moving down in the 1st. Bret Favre retires, Tavarris Jackson is not retained or leaves and the Vikings trade up, with our beloved Chiefs, for Jimmy Claussen.

wow

didnt he just go there from the rams?

1. Are they an upgrade over what we already have?
2. Do they have high football IQ?
3. Can they make a difference from Day 1?
4. Do they have a history of leadership?
5. Sign him up.
