Response to the aquisition of another veteran wide out
My first fanpost so take it easy guys. I posted this morning on the fanpost by Matt Conner in response to the need for another veteran wide receiver on the roster. I argued that Terrell Owens should be at least looked at during the coming month and a half because of the value he could add to our receiving corps. This argument was met with claims that I do not understand the chiefs philosophy and that I am an ap newbie who should re-evaluate my claim:
However, if our FA targets are evaluated with the same standards as our draft targets, then many agree with me on ap that we should look at need first then at best available at that need. And it would be hard to argue against the assumption that TO is the best UFA left at WR at this point. While I agree that he has been a problem in the locker room in the past, he did show signs of finally getting past that last year while still putting up numbers. Maybe it's just me but I would be willing to go after a guy who might talk a little during the week who backs it up on Sundays, who despite a couple of "bad" relationships with qb's in the past, gave his team a better chance to score when he was on the field. I was given the impression that upamtn felt as if he didn't fit the right 53, which you can make a strong argument that he didn't in the past, but at this point in his career he has toned it down a notch similar to the way Moss did when Pioli brought him to NE. I didn't see too many people raising red flags when Chambers was signed. A guy whose off the field issues far outweigh the problems that TO brings to the table. He came into KC and started scoring td's and we all loved him for it. TO might talk on radio shows or in interviews on tuesday after practice, but he doesn't go out and discredit his name by acting foolishly off the field. He provides the same ability to come in and score td's right away, and I hardly believe that we wouldn't love that situation if it plays out.
I want to reiterate the point i'm trying to make: While I do not feel that this is one of those deals that needs done asap, I don't think it is wrong to at least take a look at the possibility of getting something done if noone shells out the money that Rosenhaus thinks he deserves. Yeah I realize he is 36, yeah I realize he has a bum knee, but I look at production before anything else. I hate to compare the two situations, but look at what Favre added to the Vikes despite having so many things going against him. Terrell Owens might not have very many fans in Kansas City, but whether or not you want to admit it, the people that love the guy have been fans of teams he's played on that he provided a legit scoring opportunity when ran out of the tunnel.

there have been a couple of posts about TO previously ...
… and it’s been documented that Haley does not want TO on his team, that going back to issues in Dallas when Haley was an asst coach with the Cowboys while TO was there
because of that, if nothing else, TO will not be a WR for the Kansas City Chiefs, at least for as long as Haley is the Head Coach

Plus Moss was brought in after the winning culture was already in place and they had the veteran leadership to keep him in line. We aren’t there yet. We have too many young impressionable guys to bring in a “drama queen” like that. Also, claiming Chambers was a bigger risk then TO is just plain crazy talk. Chambers was signed off the street with little media attention. If it didn’t work out we could of cut him and it wouldn’t have been a big deal. TO brings with him a small army of reporters looking to catch the latest drama so they can put it all over Sports Center.

Porkchop, I'm still confused by the post itself ... for example:
TO might talk on radio shows or in interviews on tuesday after practice, but he doesn’t go out and discredit his name by acting foolishly off the field
that confuses me greatly, considering the things TO has done in the past, such as …
After the December 16, 2006 game against the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Falcons cornerback DeAngelo Hall claimed that Owens spat in his face after a play early in the game. Game officials and reporters were unaware of the incident and Owens was not asked about it until his post-game interview with the NFL Network, when he confirmed it.
oh yeah, that was ON the field, right … ok, how about the following …
Some media outlets in Dallas reported on the morning of September 27, 2006 that Owens had tried to kill himself by intentionally ingesting an overdose of hydrocodone, a pain medication. A police report filed on the night of September 26 seemed to confirm the attempt, saying that Owens’s publicist, Kim Etheridge, found him unresponsive with an empty bottle of pain killers, pried two pills from his mouth, and called 9-1-1
yup, that’s off the field! or how about …
On November 15, 2004, Owens, wearing a Philadelphia Eagles uniform, appeared with popular TV actress Nicollette Sheridan (of the ABC series Desperate Housewives, in character as Edie Britt) in an introductory skit which opened that evening’s Monday Night Football telecast, in which Owens and the Eagles played the Cowboys at Texas Stadium. Some observers (especially then-Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy) condemned the skit as being sexually suggestive because of Sheridan removing a towel, and ABC later apologized for airing it.
why yes, I do believe that also qualifies as off the field, don’t you? and while “the fans” may love him everywhere he plays, as purported in the post, it’s pretty clear that Owens cares not at all what the fans like or want. When he was still with the Eagles and he wore that Michael Irvin jersery, he was quoted as saying …
The following Friday, on Owens’s radio show, he stated he did not care what the fans thought of him wearing the jersey and that he would wear what he chooses
nope, somehow I just don’t think he’s gonna be here

I don't get this analogy
hate to compare the two situations, but look at what Favre added to the Vikes despite having so many things going against him.
First of all, what things were going against him? Second of all, Vikings were one QB away from winning the Superbowl which made that a good move. If the Chiefs were one WR away from winning the Superbowl (which they obviously aren’t) then I’d say it was a move I’d concider.
Also for future reference, try not to sandwich your posts between Kalo and Bewsaf :)

out of all the teams in the league
KC is atop T.O.‘s most hated list because of one person: Todd Haley.
After LJ’s twitter ordeal, T.O. sent LJ a few texts that eventually found their way to AP and went something along the lines of “be glad you are out of KC LJ and away from Haley” I would think T.O. would retire from the game of football before he ever signed on KC’s dotted line.
Are we the team to beat in 2010? I sure think so! Go Chiefs.
Why get an old stud WR when you could get a young stud WR?
This person’s name rhymes with Bez Dryant. That’s it, no more hints. You’ll just have to figure out who I’m talking about. Sorry.

No after, but I watched him play football.... I know weird concept. You won't get me to judge a play solely on 1 workout.

I understand
there’s a guy in here that only talks of a spoon or something like that.

I actually pointed out earlier today that I doubt Pioli is the type to judge a player solely on one workout
… and he (Pioli) has said that himself … so from THAT standpoint, Bryant didn’t hurt himself (too much, for the Chiefs organization) …
… but if he ends up doing a Michael Crabtree imitation, you better believe I’ll remember all of this, and I’ll bring it up on BRC’s birthday every year and serve it to him with a nice, glittery slice of pie
… because he’s my AP Brother and I love him

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
Really did you go to a pick up game or something i seem to remember him missing this season.
Oh yeah then he gained 14 lbs during the season. Then he couldn’t complete all of the drills on the field due to bad conditioning. That’s the player i want a WR that gains weight in the offseason and doesn’t keep in shape. Wait a second D Bowe?
You can draft defensive line to stop a player at the line.
You can draft linebackers to stop a player 3-4 yards down the field.
Or you can draft a safety to tackle him 15 yards down the field.
I'll take the first two any day.

Wow Jon, did he not play football before this season?
Also you arguement against him is also your answer for him. He hasn’t played for a while. I’m impressed that he ran in the 4.5-4.6 range when he was “out of shape”, imagine what he could do under Haley’s eye. What makes you think he would be 100% game ready? What makes you think a great 40 time equals a good WR? I guess we should be trying to trade for Darrius Heyward-Bay.
Watch his highlights. Watch his adjustments to the ball in the air. Watch how he goes and gets the ball. Watch how he doesn’t shy away from contact. Yes Jon, I have watched him play football.

He shouldn't have been out of shape is my point.
Just because it isn’t the football season doesn’t mean you relax and let yourself go. The great players work 365 days a year at making themselves better. And honestly no 40 time doesn’t make a wide receiver if you will reread i said nothing about 40 times in my post. I said he couldn’t do all the drills because he was in bad condition. Also i mentioned him gaining 14 lbs but nowhere did i mention his average 40 time. 14 lbs for a wide receiver is a lot of weight. And that game tape and adjusting to the ball you saw the year before was before he put on that 14 lbs how does he do that after putting on that weight?

My questions are:
Was he allowed to workout with his teammates or at his school?
What has he been doing with his free time?
Has he been working on furthuring his education?
Why does he feel he was out of shape?
Does he have any injuries that may have contributed to his poor showing?
I watched him in the skills comp a few weeks ago and he looked great. Quick, great hands and pretty fast through the courses(he won almost every drill). That isn’t drills but he didn’t look out of shape. Not making excuses but was his weight increase do to bulking himself up for the wear and tear of bigger competition in the NFL? I do wonder about an injury.

nah, too slow ...
we need a burner, and even though TO is 36 and has a bum knee he can make a difference and score touchdowns and he need TO more than you can imagine because life without LJ is intolerable

Pioli won't take him
He doesn’t seem to take chances on anyone with slight issues charcter wise, or on/off the field. Except for Moss who had proven he can get it done.
True and Valuable Quotes:
"Charles In Charge"
"Defense Wins Championships"
"The Battle is Won and Lost in the Trenches"
(which for the most part we are currently loosing).
Moss is a pretty glaring example of taking a chance on someone.
Other than the dinner with Dieon, which I agree should never have taken place, what else has he done wrong? The hearsay of his supposed tardiness? That’s… well, hearsay. Who said that anyway? I can’t remember but I do know it wasn’t a teammate or a coach from OSU. I’ll have to look that up again.

KC WR's already drop too amny balls--
…and people need to stop comparing him to Moss, Moss was always liked as a teammate.
Bryant, by all accounts
is liked by his teammates and coaching staff as well. All say he is unselfish, doesn’t whine when balls don’t get thrown his way, blocks well for his RB’s and is a team player who gives great effort on the field.
Not directing this at you, but his “character” issues are non-existent. Other than the dinner with Dion, which was not an NCAA violation, the only confirmed issue is showing up 1/2 hour prior to one game. Some irrelevant reporter had written that he actually showed up late for games, but that was a false charge.
With all the teams and needs and players and draft picks out there...
you really gonna tell me that TO is the best solution you can come up with? That dog won’t hunt.
Way to stand up for yourself and your opinions

CC, D-Bowe, and TO…………..(who’s playing the slot receiver)
We need a slot receiver, that can run back kicks……….(golden tate)
CC, D-Bowe, and TO = Major Problem ... yup! you got it ... need to change that equation, yup!
Berry can run back kicks if he has to (and if we take him) … stop with the TO nonsense, please, dude, give it a rest! TO couldn’t run from the house to the mailbox … you kidding me??? To couldn’t run to the bathroom …
