Who will get traded on the Chiefs?

With no cap hit and therefore no cap hit this year I think there will still be several players getting traded on or around draft day.  McNabb will be gone for one and I expect Marshall to be a Skin but who do you think the chiefs will trade for or trade?

Pioli is known for wheeling and dealing and knowing that he pulled off the Welker and Moss trades what can we expect on draft day?

I think there is still a chance we move some players so I am going to list a few names and want to know what everyone thinks is possible or likely.  These are not trades i would do but some i feel are possible.

WR Dwayne Bowe - at this point i would NOT trade him as I think he learned a lot last year about being a Pro and I think he will have a breakout year this year.  What would he be worth at this point?  Worth the risk to hold on for another year unless some team offers a 2nd which i doubt happens.

QB Brodie Croyle - you can tell he is one of Haleys favorite players and to be honest I would not be suprised to see him starting for the Chiefs down the road (i know he cant stay healthy its not what i would do but like i said Haley seems to love him so we will see how Cassel holds up) but he has some value and teams like the Cards and/or Bills might take a flier on him for a 3rd.  Plus i think it is very interesting that we have checked on some other QB options (although the Pats drafted a lot of QBs over the years which i actually agree with)

OG Brian Waters - one of my favorite chiefs BUT his played did drop off.  Now was a it a result of a new offense and bad o line overall or age?  Great character and leader but the Pats have never had problems trading or releasing vets (Law, Milloy, Bledsoe, etc) Plus if we really do draft Bulaga then the only thing that makes sense is to move Albert to LG and keep him there for 10 years next to Bulaga.  Where does that leave Waters?

ILB DJ - This has been dicussed at depth but I still am not convinced that Chiefs have him in their future.  I gave up on DJ last year after saying year after year he will breakout.  He flashes some amazing plays but i just dont see the down by down consistency.  He has value and a 4-3 team such as Detroit, Tampa, NO, or INdy might make a run at him.  Much like Pollard and Page he seems to be a "Herm guy" which for some reason is almost completely opposite to what our new regime is looking for.  I would keep DJ unless we get offered a 2nd or player worth it.

DE Glenn Dorsey - I would hate to see him get traded as it was a gift when he fell in our lap on draft day.  switching defenses really did not help him but he was a rock for us last year on run defense alone.  When he did not play we were horrible at stopping the run and we cannot afford to try and replace that with Magee who looked like more of a pass rush DE.  The problem is I think Dorsey still has great value to a team like the Vikes, Colts, SAints, and Lions.  So if we got offered a late 1st for Dorsey do you take it?  I would not as I think it would be taking a huge step back on fixing our biggest problem (run defense) but it is worth discussing with all the talent in this draft (example trade Dorsey to the Saints then draft Mount Cody?) Again, i hate to trade an ascending talent for an unproven pick BUT everything I have seen shows me that Pioli IS building for the long haul.

S Jarrad Page - It is obvious he was missed when he got hurt but so was Pollard and still do not think Pollard was not that good of a player for KC so that shows how horrible our safety play was last year.  I have read plenty on his attitude (good article by Kent babb) and some problems he had with the coaching staff (much like Pollard) and I just dont think the chiefs have plans for him in the future.  I think he has good ball skills for a bigger safety but does not play as physical for his size or really fill the alley and blow people up in run support.  I wish he could have stayed healthy last year so we would have seen more of him in this defense.  I don't know if we are going with a true FS and SS look next year or Right Safety and Left Safety look but no matter what it is I think we need a good physical player and very very fast playmaking coverage guy.  We have scouted so many safeties it would not shock me at all to see us draft 2 in the draft.

On all these guys other than Waters I would give them another year in the system and coaching and see what we have.  I hate to knee jerk and trade players too soon just to see them thrive for another team.  I would trade Waters if we get Bulaga in round 1 unless they really want to move albert again to RT.  Croyle is too valuable with that arm and it will be interesting to see what Weiss thinks about his QBs.

Look forward to see what everyone thinks...

What I would give to be in the war room with Pioli and Co. for one hour!

DJ

is as good as gone. I really think Pioli is just working out a deal now with a team. Within a week, 2 at max, you will see DJ being traded. He really has fallen out of favour with Haley. The only other person i see being traded is Jarrad Page. But not that likely

by trentchiefsfan on Mar 30, 2010 8:42 AM CDT reply actions

I agree, DJ has been straddling the Chiefs fence for 5 yrs now.

I thought we had a Mike Singletary or a Jr. Seau when we drafted him. He has more upside than down, He is the most likely to be traded at some point this year & probably will be a great addition to whomever he plays for.
Page is my 2nd likely player to be traded as well. Not really sure why, maybe his injury last year or tainted by his Pollard connection & attitude.
If we trade anyone else on your list, I will not be happy. At least for one more year anyways.

Scott Pioli's star will shine in 2010.

I wouldn't be upset to see any of them go...

Let’s face it..they have all basically been underachievers. Bowe led the league in drops despite missing 4 game for cheating…Brodie is made out of glass….Waters looked old last year…DJ is DJ….Glenn Dorsey, does he really look like a top 5 pick? Not really. And Page….well the guy was a 7th round pick, so he’s basically exceded expectaions already.

That's great...

But once again…he missed 4 game due to suspension, and another due to injury…AND HE STILL DROPPED MORE PASSES THAN ANYONE IN THE LEAGUE….That’s rather alarming IMO. Yes he could be great….but if Bowe isn’t a yo-yo player I don’t know what is.

just saying

His performance in his first 3 years, overall, are on par with other 1st round recievers. And a lot of those went on to have great careers as WRs

agreed CLC

Bowe is the definition of yo-yo. Hopefully he can get his head on right and get it together and start producing at a consistant level.

Are we the team to beat in 2010? I sure think so! Go Chiefs.

i'm really starting to come around on this whole bulaga thing

if we could trade waters for something then put bulaga and albert over there holding down the left side, with lilja and o’cal on the right. then draft a center to learn from weigmann and slot reciever to start now then all of a sudden our offense looks pretty set for several years. i realize that the defense still needs plenty of help but hey rome wasn’t built in a day. and this could give us our offense for years to come

by airfly on Mar 30, 2010 9:02 AM CDT reply actions

we don't need a LT

we need a Center

by sgthall on Mar 30, 2010 11:47 AM CDT up reply actions

and a LG

waters is old, not going to be around for much longer. i agree we don’t NEED a LT because Albert is fine. but i bet he’d be a premier LG too, and those seem to be harder to peg down than LTs. so take a promising LT like Bulaga in the first round and like i said the left side of our line is set for 10+ years and in my mind it also looks a lot stronger than the one we’ve got now

by airfly on Mar 30, 2010 1:21 PM CDT up reply actions

get the Center 1st

it was our biggest problem last season.

we don't have just one pick in this year's draft

and we have to decide b/t tackle and center. we can solve both in the same draft as i suggested in my original post

It's so quiet on the trade rumor front....

I don’t know…but I havn’t heard any trade rumors come out of the meetings….

personally, I'd rather keep the guys listed here and instead trade guys like ...

Mike Brown, Lance Long, Demorrio Williams …

well yeah. and id like to trade you this shiny penny for that dirty five dollar bill you got there. i mean what could you possible expect from all three of them together nevermind for just one of them. no one would give us an 8th round draft pick from 1987 for those guys.you have to give something to get something.

by Hendrix on Mar 30, 2010 11:34 AM CDT up reply actions

gee Hendrix, sounds like a helluva deal to me ...

… and I agree those guys together MIGHt be worth a 7th round pick at most … but I think you MAY have missed my point, namely that there’s little reason to toss out those “second tier” players for unknowns when we have so many “third and fourth tier” players on the roster

pretty simple concept, I think

A 7th? Get real guys. I understand reading comprehension so I get that some of this is sarcasm but...

…on some level you guys really believe that that is the value of these players. It’s never good enough for you when you use this kind of thought process toward the good team players on this roster. Demorrio led the team in tackles, that isn’t good enough? Mike Brown played as good as Pollard was going to play with this lack of QB pressure. I just don’t get why everyone thinks that of all the guys that need to go are all the guys who were producing in some way. Why not trade DJ? Why not trade Bowe?

Up’s you always tell me to question authority and that is what I’m doing but sometimes one needs to look at one’s self and ask if they are the authority and need to question themselves.

Sorry, I think all this player evaluation is getting to me.

For a while there all we ever talked about on AP was Berry and that seems to have toned down but it has been replaced by dislike for some of the better players on the team…. almost like hatred. Don’t get me wrong I love the debate and discussion, it just gets taxing sometimes.

RE: Williams

He did lead the team in tackles…but he plays a position where he is prime to make a ton of tackles. By watching the game it’s easy to see the guy isn’t a difference maker. He didn’t have a sack or an INT or deflect a pass all season. Many of thoes tackles were several yards further down the field than they should have been. Williams would be an alright backup, but wouldn’t be a starter on a decent defense.

Why would you ever want to trade Demorrio?

a. He lead the team in tackles and don’t give me that crap about “where” the tackles were made, he still made them and others didn’t.

2. Demorrio Williams is basically the same type of player as your favorite utensil, Mr. Spoon.

2a. Who are you going to get to replace his production? DJ? He proved that he couldn’t take it away from DW. DJ has a bright upside but can’t manage any consistancy.

seriosuly … you think he’s that good? if so … ok, he can stay …but I’d love me some Spoon anyway … also I’d like a BBQ sandwich from LC’s … pick up a couple for me, would you. please?

(visiting KC in a couple of weeks and that’s one spot I do want to hit while I’m there … Denver has absolutely nothing in terms of BBQ … but then, being from the home of Bryant’s and LC’s and Smokestack, etc, I’m spoiled)

I wish I lived in KC…. well no I truley don’t because I likes me some “small town”. I love the Chiefs but I hate traffic and long commutes. Give me a small town, a big house, a back porch, my family, a few cold ones and peace. A little slice of heaven my friend…….

To answer the question about Demorrio, yes I do think he is a good LB and will continue to get better under Crennel and as he gets more comfortable in the system. The 3-4 is pretty new to Williams too, it’s not just Tamba and Dorsey. I EXPECT great things from Demorrio and I personally think he is a very solid player who had a great year and will have even better ones in the future.

See now Mays is where the attention should be focused...

…He is alright against the run but is terrible in coverage…. Now if we had a great nose tackle and, as much as it hurts to say, a play making saftey, a guy like Mays can be covered up…. and when I say saftey I’m not talking about Berry…. not that he couldn’t get it done….. okay I’m done with the disclaimers. No way I see us trading Dorsey

As of now, he is by far our best D-lineman. I expect him to play up to or close to his potential (as much as possible now being a 3-4 DE, and not a 4-3 DT). With improved play at NT and another year in the 3-4 system I see him improving greatly. I would probably trade DJ for an early to mid 3rd if possible. He’s a great guy and all and I wish him luck wherever he goes if traded, but he just showed last year how much he can be a yo-yo player and you know haley hates yo-yos. Must have gotten beat up by a kid with yo-yo or something when he was a kid.

I believe for the sake of the man’s sanity DJ needs to be traded.I like him,but not as an ILB.He’s out of position. He needs to go to a 4-3 “D” & shine. And he will.

I don’t think any of these guys are going anywhere.

These are ALL “core” players

sorry to spoil the “fun” :)

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* KC will NOT draft a LT in the first round, and the draft WILL be heavy on defense
