Official AP Mock Draft Thread 3/3-3/14 Free Agency Edition

Sorry for the delay in getting this week's post up... I just bought another house, so it's been a little crazy.

Well, Chiefs fans, it's that time of the year again... Free Agency has kicked off in grand fashion with the signing of the QBoTF, Tyler Palko!!!!  (ok, maybe not)

But, we're all anxiously awaiting the RFA tenders and other Free Agency moves coming up.

Filling some team needs with vets would go a long way toward providing flexibility in the draft...

The scouting combine sure "muddied the waters" with good and bad performances from many of KC's prospects.

Check out KC's rumored and confirmed interests in Chris's famous post here: http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2010/3/3/1334568/tracking-nearly-40-college-players

SB Nation also unveiled a sweet "Draft Page" compilation, which is a good first stop for draft info:

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2010/3/2/1334041/sbnation-com-reveals-2010-nfl

our good friend LarryMcD posted a well comprised offseason mock here:  http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2010/3/3/1335121/my-proposal-to-fixing-my-beloved

You can use this as an example of the kind of  "mock" post that can stand on its own.  Anything with less detail should be in this thread.

That being said... let the mockery begin again!

thanks, as always, for the "recs" and continued participation!

Bulaga could be an honest choice at no.5. The connection with the Iowa Hawkeye Head Coach Kirk Ferentz and Scott Pioli could boost the chance of picking Bulaga. personally I would love it, one, because he’s a great player, two, because Bulaga is a former Hawkeye and I’m an Iowa Hawkeye Fan!

IMO when i watched Bulaga play he seemed more like a guard

but I’m not great at Olinemen so I usually stay away from taking a look at em

I'm NOT impressed with him either

and I live in Iowa

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* Pioli will make at least one trade in the offseason, and 2 trades during the draft
* I'd prefer "lightning and lightning" as opposed to "lightning and thunder" when it comes to RBs
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* keep Albert at LT, upgrade the positions that NEED upgrading.C, RG, NT, S, LB

I thought he was doing good.

Also I know this is far far fetched but I was reading a draft mock mag today and it had Adrian Clayborn as #3 on the top prospect lists next year.

Where abouts in Iowa are you?

Bulaga has had his ups and downs, I just wasn’t “blown away” watching him.
But, I’m also biased, as I DON’T want KC to draft an OT with the #5 pick.

Agree

Just have a hard time believing that Pioli would spend that high of a pick on an offensive lineman. Am not saying #5 would be too early to pick an o-lineman in the NFL, but that #5 would be too early to pick an o-lineman in Pioli’s eyes, imo.

by ChiefsFan90s on Mar 3, 2010 10:04 PM CST up reply actions

Well if its the biggest need

I can not see Pioli NOT picking an Olineman because of where we are picking this year. I just don’t think our tackles are the problems and moving Albert to start a rookie LT is the answer, getting a center/guard later on makes more sense to me.

by BAMFSpecialOps on Mar 3, 2010 10:20 PM CST up reply actions

He's the best player produced by the best training program.

If Pioli is tight with Iowa coaches, that can give him much more certainty as to what he’ll get outta this kid, and if the kid IS elite LT grade, with high probability, #5 is OK with me, even if it looks like a reach to some.

In a way, Okung’s wow-ing by showing up to the combine stronger is sort of a turn-off to the likes of me. I’m more impressed by the kid who had the best training coming up and thyroid is controllable with medication (which it is). Besides, the hyperthyroid condition gives ’im those bulgy eyeballs, giving him a real edge in periperal vision. Heh.

If Bulaga or Okung or Davis are LEGIT by KC scouting criteria, and those criteria are any good, the LT pick at #5 is value.

Even if Berry’s still there.

That changes the 2nd round into a generic DB-upgrade round, even over WR, despite all the Gilyard/Tate man-love hereabouts. There’s plenty of DB talent to do significant upgrades in the 2nd, but waiting ’til later is a crapshoot, imo.

by hmills110 on Mar 4, 2010 8:27 PM CST up reply actions

Except we don’t need a LT, and we certainly do need Berry.

by dablueguy on Mar 5, 2010 11:26 AM CST up reply actions

I'd be OK with either one. "Stuck" at #5, you might as well land the elite DB/LT, if you can.

To me, it comes down to whether or not the players in question are truly elite. If so, I value them both about the same, and I’m OK with whatever the mgmt decides.

by hmills110 on Mar 5, 2010 7:39 PM CST up reply actions

Gotta go NT with one of the 2nd round picks.

Take the bpa for the 1st pick and then address your biggest needs. To me NT is our biggest need. Cody or Price at 2a. If they are gone then Tate or Benn with the 2a pick would be great value, and go NT with the 2b pick.

by Ray Brown on Mar 7, 2010 3:45 PM CST up reply actions

NT is a need. But there's no "Gotta go NT in the 2nd" in my vocab.

Frankly, if Williams and Cody scout as guys the Chiefs want, then however/whenever they’re acquired is a big step forward. If not, I’m not sure that spending a 2nd on prospects that have as many or more questions about them as other prospects that are just as likely to be sitting their in the 3rd or 4th.

My advice is not to let PON blind you to BPA. I’m not saying KC should NOT go NT in the 2nd, just that I wouldn’t paint myself into the “must draft NT in 2nd” corner, either. That kind of calculation leads to mediocrity.

Keep in mind, here, that Joe Montana was the 82nd pick.

Kudos for your quixotic persistence, 102win.

I don’t know that KC does a whole lot at G, directly, the more I think about it. ’Course, I was inclined to feel that way before I gave the matter any thought, so I started off biased.

The signing of Wiegmann would suggest Mawae isn’t likely, although I’d roll the dice on the old warhorse, because every time I’ve ever watched him, he played at a high level. Others likely have seen more of him than I have and might have a different opinion. The signing also throws Niswanger into G contention, with an inside track on making the depth chart, at least, because he can play C in a pinch, and he knows Waters and Albert well.

If KC can’t solve RG with ANY of the plethora of players they ran thru the mill in ‘09, then I don’t see what good their spending a draft pick on G will do, because they obviously would have no idea what a good G is, so they might as well just go to walterfootball.com and take the BPA at G 3 times in a row on the back end of the draft, on the theory that if you make ENOUGH of these shots in the dark, eventually you’re very likely to succeed…

by hmills110 on Mar 12, 2010 9:12 PM CST up reply actions

Basically I'm with Kabrink, though: Just too many moving parts, (as usual, in your case), 102win.

Sorry, good buddy. OTOH, an excellent source of talking points…

I wouldn’t go that high at LB, just out of instinct. Otherwise, I do think that the 2nd round, in general, could do the KC d-backfield some real good. KC needs a guy as savvy as Mike Brown, but about 3 steps faster/quicker. And I think there are some 4.3 guys who’re gonna be there in the 2nd, in a draft year in which the supposed cream of the crop all ran 4.4+ 40s.

I’m not a huge stopwatch guy, but a LARGE percentage of the WRs in the NFL pull away from KC’s Ss, any time they’re even-up or ahead. Adding speed without losing too much football IQ should be quite feasible in the 2nd.

Right now, I’m averse to Williams in the 1st, although if he fell to #26, he’d be hard to pass up. I’m just not sure how Pioli’s crew scouts him as an NFL NT, and while I can see ‘em reaching for him if they really WANT him, I’m not sure they want him anywhere close to that high, when there are more sure-thing players at other positions, who’re more certain to be what they were drafted to be.

I like Graham, too. He comes in at the weight you want him to play at.

A 3-4, which looks an awful lot like a 5-2 or 4-3 with an oversized LB (Hali) ALSO lining up outside the RDE on the WEAK side all day long. An all-day 5-man pass rush threat in your vanilla set.

Folks will raise “Yeah, but can he cover?” questions, the answer to which being “You’re finally stout enough up front to free up the 6 guys roamin’ the back 40.”

short take from link

Strength/Ability to Shed Blocks: Very stout as an inside run defender. Shows no hesitation in taking a block head on. Delivers a jolt to the blocker, hits and sheds with power.

Tackling: Sure tackler in traffic that makes a lot of solo stops. Finished with well over 100 tackles each of the past three seasons. Will struggle to take down a shifty ball carrier out in space as his hips get tight and he does not explode forward.

Versatility: Capable of playing all three linebacker positions within a 4-3 defense or either inside position in a 3-4. Has the athletic ability to play well enough out in space, but also stout enough to play inside and pound with the big boys. His best position will likely be in the middle of a 4-3.

the following is from mockingthedraft.com in their Outside Linebacker reviews
Although Weatherspoon may not be incredibly imposing physically, he’s an aggressive player who makes plays all over the field. He’s purely a 4-3 player, but shows the explosion and athleticism to be a solid starter at the next level.

however, bear in mind that was from last October … other places, as Steve noted, do have him as a possible ILB … either way, I like the guy

games this year, and I really saw DJ 2.0 great range, great ball skills, just iffy at the line. As I said its just my opinion but I do not see him as a good fit in our defense.

Steve_Chiefs Yeah I see ’Spoon going to Indy/Saints at the end of the first, but he looked great at the combine so he could go sooner.

by BAMFSpecialOps on Mar 3, 2010 10:19 PM CST up reply actions

It's the "purely a 4-3 player" that turns me off, here. He sizes up like an ILB all these poorly-built 4-3's need

to shore up the middle, because the organization wants penetrating 1-gappers on the d-line. I think the focus right now is on enabling the KC ILBs to play without hestitation, which means stout up front, to blunt the edge of the opposing offense’s play fake. Freeing the minds of the ILBs to get into the proper drops is key, imo.

Many project him to go in the 1st or 2nd.

I like George Selvie of USF in the 4th or 5th round. the dude had 16 sacks two years ago. This year he was double-teamed a lot and that Pierre-guy got a lot of production because of it.

I still think Dan Williams

4-5 starters is the goal. LT, S, NT, LB – doesnt matter at 5. We have a lot of holes and its just one pick. It is a lot of money, but we’ll be bad anyways if we miss on our other picks.

1. Are they an upgrade over what we already have?
2. Do they have high football IQ?
3. Can they make a difference from Day 1?
4. Do they have a history of leadership?
5. Sign him up.

My weekly mock (FA Edition)

1. Rolando McClain – ILB – Alabama
Nick Saban connection. Defensive leader. Experience in the 34. Pretty self-explanatory, really.
2a. Golden Tate – WR/KR/PR – Notre Dame
Charlie Weis connection. Doesn’t look like we will be bringing in any FA receivers. We still need a slot BADLY. Can double as a returner.
2b. Vladimir Ducasse – RG/RT – UMass
Our RGs consist of Ikeche Ndukwe and Colin Brown, both with question marks. From the surface, it doesn’t appear we are making any effort to retain Wade Smith. Andy Alleman and Mike Goff are long gone. Ducasse is raw and probably wouldn’t be an immediate upgrade over Ndukwe, but he has the potential to be a top-notch RG in this league. Also has the potenital to kick out to RT if he can develop some better footwork.
3. Matt Tennant – G/C – Boston College
Fundmantally sound center coming from a college known for developing some of the best centers in the game. I like him at center, but he can also provide depth at LG. We need depth and developing prospects at both positions (center and left guard).
4. Linval Joseph – NT – East Carolina
Big, strong space eater. Was hoping NT would be a FA priority, but there isn’t much out there.
*ALTERNATIVE: Trade this pick to CLE for Shaun Rogers
5a. AJ Edds – ILB – Iowa
Kirk Ferentz connection. Edds is the best coverage linebacker in the Draft, and other than Derrick Johnson, the Chiefs don’t have an ILB that stands a chance against the AFC West tight ends (Antonio Gates, Zach Miller, Tony Scheffler). Would see immediate action in nickel and sub packages and make his name on special teams.
5b. Kurt Coleman – S – Ohio State
Great athleticism. Mike Brown isn’t getting any younger and the current regime has no investment in DaJuan Morgan, who has been a big disappointment. Could contribute right away on special teams
5c. Clifton Geathers – DE – South Carolina
Massive space-eater at DE. Crazy size, strength, and athleticism. Still very raw, but could develop into a force under a Romeo Crennel-coached defensive line.
7. Levi Brown – QB – Troy
Accurate QB with good size. Not a lot of experience, but definitely has a lot of potential. Chiefs go BPA here, and Pioli likes to draft quarterbacks in the later rounds.

My mock draft including free agents.

Sign Thomas Jones
Sign Ryan Lilja
Sign Shaun Smith

1. Bryan Bulaga OT Iowa
Pioli puts a huge emphasis on the lines. He has only ever taken one offensive lineman in the first round and that was logan mankins at the end of the 1st. I think that Pioli wants to build up our lines and he will either reach for Williams or reach for Bulaga. With the likely hood that we sign a veteran NT i believe we pick Troup later in the draft and develop him behind a veteran.
2a. Jerry Hughes OLB TCU
Our pass rush was terrible last year and we need someone opposite Hali to put pressure on the QB. Vrabel can move around the LB corps and backup Hughes as he learns the position.
2b. J.D. Walton C. Baylor
Center is the biggest weakness on our team besides NT. Walton is the best Center prospect in this draft as far as being purely center. He has experience in a ZB scheme and would start immediately.
3. Torrell Troupe NT Central Florida
Troupe would come in and back up / rotate with a veteran. This is a player Crennel likes and he has coached him in the senior bowl. Troupe is raw but could become a great NT in a couple years.
4. Myron Rolle S Florida State
Our safeties need a playmaker and our defense needs leaders. Eric Berry could be the pick in the first but i don’t think pioli reaches for a safety. Rolle could come in and start at SS allowing Page to stay at FS where he is more comfortable.
5a. Micah Johnson ILB Kentucky
A very solid player as a run stuffing ILB. We have maybe one of those on roster and Johnson has much more talent and upside than does Mays. Johnson could come in and start or rotate with Vrabel as the starting ILB besides Johnson.
5b. Dezmon Briscoe WR Kansas
Briscoe has great measurables and is a sure handed receiver. He is still young and raw as a player but i believe he would be a great eventual replacement to Chambers and could play the slot while Haley / Weis develops him.
5c. Cirion Black LSU OT / OG
We still need depth at the tackle position. Black is a little raw but he is a capable backup at RT and LT.

Starting Lineups:
LT: Bryan Bulaga
LG: Ryan Lilja
C: J.D. Walton
RG: Brian Waters
RT: Branden Albert
TE: Leonard Pope
WR: Dwayne Bowe
WR: Chris Chambers
Slot WR: Dezmon Briscoe
FB: Castille
RB: Jamaal Charles / Thomas Jones
QB: Matt Cassell

LE: Tyson Jackson
NT: Shaun Smith / Torrell Troupe
RE: Glenn Dorsey
LOLB: Jerry Hughes
ILB: Derrick Johnson
ILB: Micah Johnson
ROLB: Tamba Hali
CB: Brandon Flowers
CB: Brandon Carr
FS: Jarrod Page
SS: Myron Rolle

The first 3 picks of the draft will be defense. Pioli loves him some defense.

If he is what his clippings say he is, then Berry's the guy.

OTOH, Mayock’s watched a lot more film on Berry and Earl Thomas, and Mayock’s opinion (which I tend to trust on this matter) is that Thomas more than makes up for 40 time by having the higher football IQ than Berry, who didn’t exactly WOW! me with his 40 time at the combine, ANYway. Might be that Berry’s just the Eric Curry of his day.

But just the fact that this Earl Thomas, who was NEVER mentioned in the same breath as Eric Berry a month or three ago, is now believed to be BETTER by the guy who spends all day watching film. I respect the film, although I don’t necessarily ascribe to Mayock’s sense of team-building strategy. So I’m having late-winter doubts about Eric Berry in the 1st…

Mayock currently has Bulaga going to KC @ #5.

I think middle ground between you and him (or you and me, for that matter) is maybe NOT Eric Berry at #5 (no grabbing), but not necessarily Bulaga, either.

I agree that Washington taking the OT makes sense for Washington. But I’m not at all certain Shanahan will be satisfied, without having HIS guy at QB. Personally, I believe Jason Campbell has all the tools, but has NEVER had decent protection.

by hmills110 on Mar 12, 2010 9:46 PM CST up reply actions

To be perfectly honest

If I had not grabbed Berry we are getting McClain.
The drafttek site has a formula and we need ILB and SS.
I did not create this mock just added input of my own to the simulation

Also

The grabs are by people that keep in contact with the teams that they input on.
Personnally, I know that the Chiefs Drafttek contributor knows the Chiefs very well.
So, as I bolded the grabs other than Berry which I did, Very knowledgeble people chose those grabs and IMO that as of the time of the comment would be the picks of tose teams.

That's fine. Just not "my system" of team building.

To me, it’s not an obvious “We need improvement at position X; therefore, we spend the highest pick on X.” It’s more about value, and a different definition of value than that of the drafttek programmers.

© Kevin Mawae
(Slot) Davonne Bess- ERFA

1. Eric Berry,S
A solid safety to upgrade the secondary, in turn allowing Tyson Jackson some development cushion

2a. Maurkice Pouncey, OL
A guard in case Lilja fails, a center in case Mawae goes down, a replacement for Mawae in the future.

2b. Torrel Troup, NT
A rotation of Troup and Smith would be pretty solid for years to come

3. Used to sign Kirk Morrisons offer sheet

4. Jacoby Ford, WR, PR, KR
Lightning quick, could step up as a solid #4

5a. Myron Lewis
A project. I want him because he’s big enough to take on San Diego’s gigantic receivers

5b. Micah Johnson, ILB
Solid ILB if DJ doesn’t step up as a starter, solid rotational guy if he does

I generally like it

I think the first two picks are spot-on. Berry & Pouncy could both end up being All-Pro in their positions.

I’d lean toward substituting Cam Thomas for Troupe with the 2b (because he’s a bit bigger), but I’d be satisfied with either one.

I don’t know much about Kirk Morrison, but I was thinking that Anthony McCoy (USC TE) would be a good pick with the 3rd rounder. He’s a big, talented pass catcher who would be a great value if he’s still there in the 3rd.

I think all the late round picks are solid too, though I’d like to mix in a power RB (Charles Scott or Blount) & a DE (Mike Neal) in there.

This year will be better

Start by replacing "Mawae" with "Wiegmann"

Throwing another, relatively inexpensive G into the KC G SWEEPSTAKES!!!!!! doesn’t seem outta line. Polian administration targeting him as expendable is a red flag, in his case, though. May just be that a pretty good player was caught wrong-footed on contract cycle, in a year where Polian can do a lotta good in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th round in the O-trenches.

Long as KC’s signing FAs, I wonder what Gerard Warren’s asking price is. Wonder if maybe he could regain some former glory in a different atmosphere, where tough love seems to have protected their big men pretty well, and the concern for their well-being, under all the tough talk and extra running, saw the position groups stay pretty healthy, overall.

Extra running. Knee braces at every practice, right? D might stay on the field a long time, but they rotated everybody in and out as their bodies needed it, more than as the outcome of the game dictated. Yeah, they wanted to win, but their formula for success seems to include careful monitoring of their conditioning level and their bodies’ tolerances. Don’t know if anybody else notice/feel anything like this about the Haley coaching philosophy, but I think they take that end of things very seriously, and are science-driven, when it comes to what the big men are expected to do and how much they ask of any man.

Rewatching NFL Combine

While working from home, I am rewatching the NFL combine on the NFL network. Just an observation, but I think Troup looks better and more fluid then Cam Thomas. So I hope we go that way around 2(b) or 3.

by BigChief43_IL on Mar 11, 2010 2:22 PM CST reply actions

I just wonder if there's an early run on NTs that leaves the Chiefs short between 2a and 2b.

I also wonder if this is even the year to be goin’ 1st/2nd on NT, because all the candidates have questions, or, rather, I have questions about all the candidates.

A stab in the dark

I say we sign one of the following three, Mawae, Fraley, or Wiegmann to be a stop-gap center and draft as follows.
Trade down with Cleveland for their 2nd 3rd round pick and their 5th round pick, so we pick at 7. I will show what my guess is for the top 7 picks of the draft and then the next two rounds for the Chiefs.
1. St. Louis-Sam Bradford
2. Detroit-Russell Okung
3. Tampa Bay-Ndamukong Suh
4. Washington-Bryan Bulaga-I know this is a reach but they need OL.
5. Cleveland-Jimmy Clausen
6. Seattle-Gerald McCoy
7. Kansas City-Eric Berry, if Washington takes Berry, then KC takes Bulaga or attempts to trade down further.

Chiefs 2nd Round
2a. Golden Tate
2b. Cam Thomas
3a. Amari Spievey
3b. JD Walton from Cleveland trade

Okung fits better than Bulaga in a ZBS which Shanny will run in Washington

It really depends on perceptions

If both Seattle & Cleveland are in love with Claussen Pioli can play them against each other & Rob one of them blind. I hope Claussen impressed the hell out of both those teams in his private workouts.

Matt Stone's Mock (moved from another post)

I agree and add another…
Get Andra Davis and Larry Foote for that matter. Larry is younger and just as productive..he had 99 tckls and 2 sacks in 14 games in an unatural position as a MLB in a 4-3 Defense.

If Berry taken 1st then my 2B pick changes to LT/Tony Washington. I did this mock on Monday.
I would like ILB Larry Foote or Antonio Pierce. OLB Pisa Tinoisamoa or Joey Porter. S Jermaine Phillips or Sean Jones.CB Lito Shepard or Leigh Bodden,NT Ma’ake Kemoeatu or Shaun Smith.
Some of these worked out as you can see 1 of my picks worked out so far. Larry is in AZ with Joey and they will probably sign as a pair to join Haggans as West Coast Steelers.

How does this plan sound? Sign these FA’s( didn’t add Davis in this scenario)
ILB/Larry Foote,S/Sean Jones,NT/Shaun Smith,CB/Lito Sheppard
Then trade 3rd pick to Chi for TE/Eric Olsen
Draft goes like this.
1. LT/Okung
2A.C/G Maurkice Pauncey
2B SS/Darrell Stuckey
3rd to Chicago for Olsen
4th NT/Torrel Troup
5A DE C.J. Wilson

A mock above has KC taking Troup in the 2nd.

Not sure I want Lito Shepperd (sp?). NYJ hired Cromartie and released Shepperd. Wasn’t Shepperd 2nd on the depth chart behind some other guy most of the time? I don’t know, but Shepperd just doesn’t inspire confidence.

And as critical as I’ve been, I’m not sure that Emmitt Thomas doesn’t work some magic with Brandon Carr, whom I believe has some serious tools, if coached-up a tad bit differently. Throw a quicker safety into the mix, make Carr’s job easier, free him to blitz more and keep his eyes upfield an extra beat (and use ’em), and ya might be surprised what you see outta him in ’10.

For some reason, I get this “Surtain retread” twitch on Lito. I guess if the price were right, a likely upgrade to current veteran depth, but…

You think KC loses Waters this offseason?

KC Nate's 1st 2010 Mock Draft

My first stab it. I’ve never done the mocking just the viewing. I’ll take a stab at for just round 1

1) St. Louis Rams – Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
It appears more and more this will be the pick Rams can’t pass on QB this year.
2) Detroit Lions – Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma
Oklahoma stars go 1-2 McCoy will help Lions DL nicely. His stock has risen over Suh’s.
3) Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
Bucs, like Lions, need a DT, either one is fine. Both will have good careers.
4) Washington Redskins – Russel Okung, OT, Oklahoma State
With the tendering of Jason Campbell and retiring of LT Samuels it all points to LT
5) Kansas City Chiefs – Eric Berry, S, Tennessee
Our secondary has been burned many times, it’s time to stop that with help of Berry.
6) Seattle Seahawks – Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
Was either Spiller or Clausen since RB is more stable Clausen gets a yr under Matt
7) Cleveland Browns – Joe Haden, CB, Florida
Browns need help almost all over the place. They’ll start here at CB with Haden
8) Oakland Raiders – Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland
I don’t think it matters, Oakland needs a lot of help, might as well start in the trenches.
9) Buffalo Bills – Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers
Bills need help on the OL with their shaky and weak one they have. This is a start.
10) Jacksonville Jaguars – Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech
14 sacks last season, we know what sack futility is and the effect. Jags add pass rush
11) Denver Broncos – Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee
Broncos going to a 3-4 still need a NT, they develop one in Williams
12) Miami Dolphins – Sergio Kindle, OLB, Texas
Dolphins could use a pass rush with loss of Porter and uncertainty of Taylor
13) San Francisco 49ers – Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma
49ers need help on the right side, and this guy can provide it
14) Seattle Seahawks – C.J. Spiller, HB, Clemson
Turns out they get the QB and still get the HB in speedster Spiller.
15) New York Giants – Rolando McClain, LB, Alabma
Giants need to fill the hole left my Pierce. McClain will succeed around a good defense.
16) Tennessee Titans – Everson Griffen, DE, USC
With the loss of Kyle Vanden Bosch they need a DE to take over. Griffen will do fine
17) San Francisco 49ers – Taylor Mays, S, USC
49ers fill a need and hole here with Mays, his stock rose after the combine performance
18) Pittsburgh Steelers- Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State
Pittsburgh needs to beef the secondary after being questionable even with no Troy
19) Atlanta Falcons – Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida
Abraham is aging, Anderson is a bust, time to renew the rush attack
20) Houston Texans – Earl Thomas, S, Texas
They need someone to fill a whole left by Robinson, Thomas will do just that
21) Cincinnati Bengals – Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State
Bengals often deal with character issue players, Dez does that along with filling need
22)* New England Patriots – Brian Price, DT, UCLA*
Patriots continue to add depth, this time at DT along the line
23) Green Bay Packers – Charles Brown, OT, USC
Packers allowed way too many sacks, more than any other team, they need to stop it.
24) Philadelphia Eagles – Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida
Eagles need some help with a some what aging line, he has the ability
25) Baltimore Ravens – Arrelious Benn, WR, Illinois
Ravens got Boldin but still need help, he is a big jump ball guy, can get the endzone TD
26) Arizona Cardinals – Sean Weatherspoon, OLB, Mizzou
Cardinals get some OLB help and a starter and he will be a big time player for them
27) Dallas Cowboys – Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa
With Adams declining and this LT falling this far Jerry Jones cant miss this guy
28) San Diego Chargers – Ryan Matthews, RB, Fresno State
Chargers depleted backfield need an every down back, Matthews carries the load
29) New York Jets – Jahvid Best, RB, Cal
Jets need to find a backup/co-rb to sensational shonn greene, best is the best available
30) Minnesota Vikings – Terrence “Mount” Cody, DT, Alabama
Vikings draft Cody and put him under the Williams’ pair and replaces Pat in a yr or two
31) Indianapolis Colts – Jared Odrick, DT, Penn Sate
Colts need some DL help quite a bit and this guy fits the bill
32) New Orleans Saints – Selvish Capers, OT, West Virginia
OT here fills a pressing need for the saints, and here it is.

Side note, with 2a pick I see the chiefs picking Golden Tate, WR from Notre Dame

Mock II

I’ve officially joined the EB club and dropped Dez B. off the top spot, too much drama. i believe that they already have b. waters penciled in for center next year which should explain the 2 OG’s in my draft. not as fancy as most drafts but i think i got some good building blocks.

  1. Eric
   2. LInvale Joseph NT
   2b. Kao Misi OLB
   3. John Jerry OG/OT
   4. Marshall Newhouse OG/OT
   5. Daniel Te’o-Nesheim olb/ilb/de not sure where to list him but hes a player
5b. Scott Long WR the brass liked his combine
5c. Walter Thurmond CB he’ll have to pass a med., he wasn’t ready for the combine or his pro day but if he can bounce back he’ll challenge Carr.

by JS Wings on Mar 11, 2010 11:24 PM CST reply actions

1. Eric Berry S Tennessee
2. Brandon Spikes LB UF
2. Vladimir Ducasse OG/OT UMASS
3. Anthony Mccoy TE USC
4. Linval Joseph NT East Carolina
5. Eric Olson C ND
5. Brandon Banks KR K-State
5. Brandon Sharpe OLB Texas Tech

Now that is a sexy mock draft

interesting

Banks may very well go undrafted, so that’s a big reach in the 5th
in your scenario, I’d consider Sergio Render or Freddie Barnes with pick 5b, and try to pick up Banks after the draft

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* keep Albert at LT, upgrade the positions that NEED upgrading.C, RG, NT, S, LB

yea idk what i was thinking

28 yd kr avg, 5 kr touchdowns in 2 years, 4.4 40
The guy must be terrible. I don’t think Banks goes undrafted the demand for good kick returners has gone up a lot the last few years, and he was one of the best in the country.

But i have a feeling we don’t go WR early. I think they’re gonna put higher value on interior o line and TE if we go offense early.

Isn't Linval a veteran RB? Heh.

Two mocks in a row with Linval Joseph, NT, one taking him at 2a and the other in the 4th. Who’s this Linval kid? Seems like a sudden surfacing.

He's from East Carolina

and strong as hell…but I’d be shocked if he went in the first 100 picks.

The studs from the 2010 draft class will be: DT Ndamukong Suh, S Eric Berry, RB C.J. Spiller, RB Jahvid Best, WR Arrelious Benn, WR Golden Tate, WR Mardy Gilyard, OT Charles Brown, CB Kyle Wilson and S Chad Jones

I'd go for that

I'd rather see a pair of these kinds of picks @ the one position, than a single pick, higher up...

… that has nearly the same probability of success. If there are significantly higher-probability contributors at other positions, they rate the higher picks. It’s not so much hitting on any ONE pick, but maximizing the expected value of the entire array of picks.

How did u get 3 2nd round picks?

by sgthall on Mar 12, 2010 7:37 PM CST up reply actions

Golden Tate was the request

Seems Tampa Bay wants him. I guess Tate would Be on the Bubble

I wonder about the Compensatory picks and how that changes things. Our 4th would drop to about the 102 pick and our 5ths would be about 137, 143, and 145.
Oh but we pick up almost Mr. Irrelevant in the 7th :)

I see SOMEbody taking a chance on Cody in the 2nd.

He seems to be on a steady weight-loss program, and spending a lot of time in the weight-room, at present. A lot of upside, there.

by hmills110 on Mar 12, 2010 10:33 PM CST up reply actions

My biggest question is

How much of his lost weight is actual fat being burned off instead of just water weight? Heck I’m only 170 lbs but I can drop close to 8 lbs of water weight just from sleeping. I can easily fluctuate 12 lbs in one week, so imagine a guy that was 370 lbs.

The studs from the 2010 draft class will be: DT Ndamukong Suh, S Eric Berry, RB C.J. Spiller, RB Jahvid Best, WR Arrelious Benn, WR Golden Tate, WR Mardy Gilyard, OT Charles Brown, CB Kyle Wilson and S Chad Jones

by kc_radrh8r on Mar 12, 2010 10:38 PM CST up reply actions

This is true

I don’t know how much different College is from pros.
But, I know whoever takes cody is putting money up that he will produce as long as possible. In College he was basically free to use and use however it best fit the program. Maybe just me but I see a kid that with the right guidence will be a good player. No red flags on his character at Alabama at all. Flagging his weight is understandable yet what did Bama want him to be? And as a 2 year player Jr and Sr how much did they care? Again whoever picks him will make sure he is fit for whatever they need him to do. Myself a 2a pick for Cody would be well worth it for the upside.

Exactly

Doesn’t seem like a real possibility though.
I have no idea how a player could showcase his potential without the NCAA stage.
Maybe CFL or the now gone Arena League, or the European league also gone.
I could imagine quite a bit of great talent never gets seen :(
