Chiefs Will Release WR Devard Darling, RB Dantrell Savage

The Kansas City Chiefs will have two fewer players by the end of the day. According to Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com, the Chiefs will announce the release of WR Devard Darling and RB Dantrell Savage.

Star-divide

Darling of course tore his ACL in the offseason and never participated in the Todd Haley offense during the 2009 regular season. In a statement after the ACL tear he said, "I am confident I will be able to return next season with the same speed and explosiveness you have seen from me in the past

Doesn't look like it. He had at least several million dollars remaining on his contract and was originally signed during the Herm Edwards era on March 11th, 2008.

Darling, 27, was originally drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the 3rd round of the 2004 draft.

Savage was signed by the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2008. He lasted two seasons and a regime change, which is pretty good for a UDFA.

Savage ended the season on injured reseve.

Both players will hit now hit free agency. And kudos to the Chiefs for making these moves now in order to give both players a shot at finding a new team.

They always relate

to the ad on the top (it was actually a Disney one that just happened)

Not sure if it has to do with using FFportable or what.

please be right on this one!

i really want Sproles, plus dumping Darling frees up his 2 million this year right? I know he was the third highest salaried Chief on the roster.

Regardless of who the Chiefs pick at #5 overall, Whitlock will call it the worst pick in the history of the Chiefs. Heres to hoping that #5 pick runs Whitlock out of town.....

That's what I was thinking.

I hope they do.

I feel bad for both of these guys but buisness is buisness I guess....

…I think Savage could have been a pretty good backup in the ZB scheme but when you’re a shifty-type RB a nagging ankle injury spells trouble. Darling’s story is too bad, he is a very serviceable WR and before the injury I was looking forward to seeing what kind of progress he could make under Haley.

My bold prediction and I think our best chance at moving down in the 1st. Bret Favre retires, Tavarris Jackson is not retained or leaves and the Vikings trade up, with our beloved Chiefs, for Jimmy Claussen.

WRITE IT DOWN!

Seems to me that Darling being released is soley money related.

Don’t forget that Haley liked him and let him ride the number #1 spot to teach D-Bowe a lesson. Would it be out of the question to sign him to a less expensive deal?

Not sure if his current money is tied up in bonuses or not, but if so there could be more to it than meets the eye.

{waving byebye to Dantrell and Devard}

I agree that it IS good to release them sooner rather than later, so they DO have time to look around, shop around, land on their feet … that’s a GOOD move, even in the cutthroat world of the NFL

Darling is quite a man and a wonderful story

but I still think, he was outplayed by Sippio! And just think, if Tebow was throwing to Sippio? Wow, the ceiling was just raised about….

Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!

I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

The Spring Cleaning has begun.

Haley, Weis and Crennel have sat down and decided whom they are going to let go and pretty much know whom they want to go after.

Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...

makes sense

No reason to keep them on the roster.

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* Pioli will make at least one trade in the offseason, and 2 trades during the draft
* I'd prefer "lightning and lightning" as opposed to "lightning and thunder" when it comes to RBs
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* keep Albert at LT, upgrade the positions that NEED upgrading.C, RG, NT, S, LB

I would

Like to see Croyle get traded in hopes that he can start somewhere. Why not trade him to the Bills? He is a good backup, but I still feel if KC had a stronger Oline, he would have shown his talent that made him a starter prospect.

When he played a few snaps this past season, he did get hit and was able to get back up…so I think the conditioning that Haley put him through made him stronger and less injury prone.

Its hard but...

we fall in love with a few of these guys and as Chiefs fans we always say “just one more yr, they have potential, etc” . It must be hard to be on the business end of it. but I do have to admit, all the players they released last yr stressed me out and I think only Pollard was servicable to another team. So I’ve gotta trust The Don and the Round Table.
Specualting Sproles as a pick up could have some truth to it here. Boldin too. I’d be ok giving up our 4th and a 5th for him, or two 5ths.NOT our 3rd. That early 3rd will be a starter this year-center Walton for example.

dantrelle is the same kinda player as sproles

but sproles is better so i see this as a good sign

You're a goddamn quarterback! You know what that means? It's the top spot, kid. It's the guy who takes the fall. It's the guy everybody's looking at first - the leader of a team - who will support you when they understand you. Who will break their ribs and their noses and their necks for you, because they believe. 'Cause you make them believe. That's a quarterback.

I liked Darling, thought he was a good kid and player.

Thought he had something. Actually hate to see him go.

Wish the best to both

I was happy that they were retained last season, but I agree it is time to let them have the opportunity to play for someone else. This was a good move.
