With The 19th Pick In The 2010 Arrowhead Pride Mock Draft, The Atlanta Falcons Select...
Note by Joel: I screwed up twice today. First, I originally told Iamthegreatest that he was not picking for the Falcons so he didn't know he was up. Second, I posted the 20th pick before the 19th pick. Yeah, long day. Anyway, thanks to Iamthegreatest for this last second pick...
The Atlanta Falcons have taken steps over the past three years that have really sent them in the right direction. They have developed their own receiver in Roddy White, who has turned out to be a Pro Bowl caliber player. They have drafted a young, up and coming superstar QB and they traded for the beloved Tony Gonzalez last year. The offense does not seem to be the problem for this Atlanta Falcons team. Their offensive line is young and very much has helped Matt Ryan become what he is becoming.
The problem lies within the defense.
The Falcons have had bad luck with Jamaal Anderson, who is in his third year. And they have had problems with the cornerback position, due to injuries and lack of depth. With the signing of Dunta Robinson the cornerback spot seems to be in better shape. I believe the Falcons are only a few players from being a very good defense. With linebackers such as Curtis Lofton and Mike Peterson, the falcons have a very talented group of linebackers to build on.....
With all this being said I believe the Falcons will pick...

Sean Weatherspoon, University of Missouri linebacker.
"Spoon" Brings a great amount of experience and leadership to a Falcons defense that is just about there. Sean Weatherspoon fits the mold of the Atlanta Falcons. He is a tough nosed, very vocal linebacker that brings both coverage and run stopping abilities.

Nice pick
Spoon will definitely help them either inside or outside in their 4-3 D

I think Atlanta...
would make a perfect trade partner for DJ. They just got a 3rd round comp so they could be willing to part with their 3rd now. By getting DJ, who would bring playmaking ability that no 3rd round LB could, they could get a DE in the 1st to replace Anderson the bust as well as a future replacement for the aging Abraham.
that might work
He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is
DJ flat out for a 3rd?

KC drafted a dozen TEs during the TG years
Did any of them do any good?
I recall one 1st round pick who now plays for the Chargers …
He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is
you are right
- overall in 2004
now I don’t feel so bad about the pick

I think they've shown a TON of interest in Spoon
this is a pretty likely pick
* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* KC will NOT draft a LT in the first round, and the draft WILL be heavy on defense
Possibly.

sadly I don't think it's gonna happen ... it should, but it likely won't

1st. I need to appologize to Iamthegreatest for calling him the Viking's GM for not getting his pick in in time.
My humblest appology Iamthegreatest.
2nd. Nice pick, Spoon looks like he will be a good linebacker in the NFL. He is going to a talented defensive team so he should blossom under their tutelage.
3rd. I love this pick because that means another dream has been crushed for upamtn…. and that gives me that warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Ha
Chris did all the AP mock draft picks last year. We’ve both just got a full plate this week and didn’t quite pay attention.
And, yes, that’s an excuse. How else can I explain my mistakes? :)

Spoon for be a good pick for Atlanta
He fills a need and has talent
Falcons fan base likes Sean as much as the KC fan base likes Berry
Local team writers like Orlando Leadbetter prefer Weatherspoon
Sean says he wants to play for the Falcons due to the Missouri connection
I myself see many others that I would like to see the Falcons pick as much as Sean
Among these:
Haden Earl Thomas or Kyle Wilson – one of these will likely fall to 19 – Falcons added Dunta but need more secondary help to deal with all the great pass teams of the NFC where they will have to face Romo, McNabb, Brees, Favre, and E Manning to advance in the playoffs
Spiller Matthews or Best – Atlanta RB’s missed 18 games due to injury in 2009 – often both were out for the same game – Falcons need another young healthy RB
Any of these DE/OLB’s could fall to # 19 and would also be good for the Falcons:
Pierre-Paul
Sergio Kindle
Derrick Morgan
Brandon Graham
Carlos Dunlap
He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is
WarWolf
I really thought about Brandon Graham but I thought that Spoon brought way more than just great athletic ability, I am not a Missouri Fan but Spoon is a great leader, a great person, and an instant upgrade
yeah I know - Falcons fans are heavily for Spoon
