Chiefs Draft Interest Continues Great Offseason At Wake Forest Pro Day
Wake Forest CB Brandon Ghee has been putting up some solid numbers at the postseason all-star games and the Chiefs have been there to see him do it.
The Chiefs had a chat with him at the Senior Bowl. Todd Haley was checking out him and other defensive backs at the Senior Bowl practices.
He "opened some eyes" at the NFL Combine with solid numbers all around, according to various accounts.
His impressive offseason continued with the Wake Forest pro day and Gil Brandt of NFL.com has the details.
He had a 10-foot, 2-inch broad jump and an incredible 3.98-second short shuttle. He kept the rest of his numbers from the combine. He has already had individual workouts with the Patriots and Browns, and is scheduled to visit the Cowboys, Jets, Steelers and Vikings.
From my understanding, anything under 4.0 seconds in the short shuttle is outstanding.
While these numbers look great, I gotta wonder where all the production is. He had just one interception at Wake Forest. The numbers are great but, as Chiefs GM Scott Pioli has said, the games aren't played in shorts and a t-shirt.
Frank Cooney of The Sports Xchange has a good rundown on this situation.
Ghee put on a show at the combine with a 40-yard time of 4.40 seconds and a vertical jump of 37 inches. But in games Ghee seemed to be most impressive against big receivers while struggling against smaller, quicker ones. He appeared to be more focused on making the wow hit than grabbing the interception. His production doesn't seem to match his physical ability, as evidenced by having no interceptions last season. He missed 2007 on academic suspension, was out of spring practices a year ago with a sprained knee and missed two games with a sprained ankle.
Ghee's projected to go in the 2nd-3rd round range. The Chiefs have a pair of second rounders and of course a third as well.
I can see the Chiefs selecting a cornerback in this draft at some point but the third round or before would surprise me. Donald Washington was taken in the fourth round last year and should be given time to develop. There are just too many needs on this team to take a luxury player like Ghee.

yup, a cb that high would be a “luxury” pick, but he’d sure fit in with Flowers & Carr, wouldn’t he?
He does fit the profile, tho
If the profile for Chiefs CBs are guys named Brandon.
Watching the 2009-2010 Chiefs 12 hours ahead of you (in Taipei, Taiwan).
Twittering my every move. Don't act like you're not even slightly interested.
He is tall...
so it would be appealing to put him up against Jackson two times a year. It said he was good against bigger receivers. My sleeper CB of this draft is Walter Thurmond III or Oregon. He could fall to the 5th because of injury concerns.
I have soured on Carr as a number 2 guy
I think Carr is a good nickel guy. I thought he was exposed a lot last year. Corners are almost impossible to get anywhere except high in the draft, so I would love to see us use one of those top 3 picks on a lockdown CB.
He had one more interception than I did
Although he is faster than me and can jump higher, he only picked off 1 more pass than I did and I wasnt even trying. Wait till you guys see me this year. LOL

Raiders Suck!!!
Move Carr to Safety
When Carr was drafted in 2008 CBS Draft Sportsline had the following analysis
With his ball hawking skills and adequate man coverage skills, he just might be a better fit inside at safety, rather than going one-one-one with receivers in man coverage at corner-back.

If the draft is deep in CB maybe Carr can be moved to safety
Been sayin the same thing myself.
Good to see I’m not crazy, at least.
The Chiefs will see a return to respectability in 2010, emerging as the front runner in the AFC West! ....And I'll quantify that however I choose. Ahem.
The lack of production in terms of INT is troubling!
Reminds me a lot of an Alphons Hodge. Has an allergic reaction when in contact with a football.
Opinions are like A--holes, everyones got one.
The Chiefs are basically a Branden/Brandon
kind of team. We have transitioned from an all Derek/Derrick team.
