"The big difference is that, in Kansas City, I was starting at ground zero," he said Sunday afternoon, stopping to chat for a few minutes in the lobby of the Ritz-Carlton, where the NFL owners meetings are taking place this week.

If I might add to the below comment

"Where I’d come from," he said, referring to his years with the Patriots, "we had a system and a program that was up and running, with people with a great deal of experience."

It wasn’t the case when Pioli got there. Pioli helped in making that a true statement for His years in New England. So Egoli he is not, just Scott Pioli. I am very happy that Scott is representing the Chiefs in any NFL situation. He is CLASS ACT.

8-8 is possible in 2010 and it wont take breaking the bank on 2nd tear free agents getting lucrative contracts because the free agent pool is so weak this year!

I hope Donaldson knows what he's talking about.

I think Pioli is building this franchise the right way, but I won’t take a SB berth for granted until we see it happen. It was nice to see PorkChop referenced in the article though. :-)

I agree he is doing

a great job I think the worst part of it all to understand, is that getting all the good players does not spell a dynasty I think he is setting up to were as one star falls another one takes its place. So that we dont have as many let down years if any for a while. I think Clark Hunt was just tired of not being at the top of the AFC west when he knows how great of friends we have.

He was a CB for the Chiefs from 66-78 and has been coaching in the NFL for quite sometime now. Hes the New defensive backs coach and should help out the secondary quite a bit. With him we should hope to see quite an improvement w/ Brandon Flowers and Carr this year.

I get kind of tired of his "This team was so bad before I got here" schtick

I know he means ground zero in the sense none of his ideals/staff were in place when he got here, but these guys constantly undersell the players they inherited.

by LHO on Mar 22, 2010 12:48 AM CDT reply actions

He is referring more to the culture of losing and non accountability that permeated here for years. This team was led by 2 guys in Carl and Herm that were absolutely unqualified for their positions, held no one accountable for anything. Carl was done 10 years before, and anyone that followed the Jets even a little knew Herm was in totally over his head as an NFL Head coach. That’s what Pioli and Haley had to, and have to overcome, as well as a talent shortage.

Go watch Carl and Herm's "Hard Knocks" again if you want to know what he means by "Ground Zero"
