Featured Chief: Dwayne Bowe

Dwayne Lorenzo Bowe

Height: 6ft 2

Weight: 221lbs

Position: WR

Age: 25

College: LSU

Drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round (23rd Overall) in 2007.

In Bowe's rookie year he started in 15 games.  He caught 70 balls for 995 yards and 5 touchdowns.  He also caught his longest reception of 58 yards this year.

In the 2008 season Bowe's yardage and touchdowns went up.  He started all 16 games.  He caught 86 balls for 1022 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Last season his overall production went down due to him being suspended and the KC dropped ball curse.  In 11 games Bowe caught 47 balls for 589 yards and 4 touchdowns.

I think that Bowe is a solid WR with potential to be one of the best.  He is by far the best WR on our team overall.  He is big, physical and isn't afraid to run after the catch.  The only downside of Bowe is that he drops balls that I could catch but then again he makes the impossible catches in traffic.  So that is just something he needs to work on in order for the Chiefs to get better.  Chambers on the other side will only help him become a better player.  I'm looking forward to this season and see what WR(s) we take in the draft to build upon a depthless WR unit.

he lacks

the will to play full speed and stay focused, if and only if he gains this knowledge he will then be a better receiver. I do give it to him he hasnt had good role models around him.

and you want KC to sign Terrell Owens?

by bansky on Mar 21, 2010 7:16 PM CDT up reply actions

yes its time for t.o to give back

if he has the chance to do that he might give him the sense of importance on the team on and off the game field

How

Is T.O a good Role Model? Chris Chambers has worked hard, kept his mouth shut, and produced everywhere he’s gone. we already have a role model for Bowe. Even if we didn’t, I’m pretty sure that T.O wouldn’t care about teaching Bowe to be a better reciever and would continue with the same ‘me first, it’s not my fault it’s the QB/Coach/one armed man/everyone elses fault’ rhetoric that he’s spouted literally everywhere else he’s been. He’s washed up, has an empty tank, and the emptier it gets, the louder he screams that he’s ‘got get paidddddd’ No. If we needed another locker room problem child, and I stress ‘child’ we could have kept the one we already had in Larry Johnson.

by BetterRedThanDead on Mar 22, 2010 3:40 AM CDT up reply actions

T.O is Cancer.

I don’t want Cancer. I fear cancer. He will never be in KC. NEVER. He’s not a team players nor the “right 53” so feel free to drop T.O. from your dream roster in kc.

I like Bowe

If CJ2K hadn’t been drafted the same year he might’ve won ROTY. His only problem is a lack of work ethic, why he’s been in Haley’s Dog House and why he has lapses in concentration. He can make those impossible catches but drops the easy ones. I fully expect him to explode next year and become more of a target, especially since we retained Chambers. If we can find a good slot guy in the draft like Tate, Shipley, Roberts, Barnes, etc. and a good all-around TE I think we have the makings of a truly all around high-powered offense, better than AZ maybe because of JC.

Since we’ve hired better coordinators Haley should have more time to work with the WRs, and I expect our Offense to really get going next year.

by Green-Monster on Mar 21, 2010 5:24 PM CDT reply actions

The trick

will be getting him in a position where he knows that he has to work hard to get and keep the number one spot. I think Chambers will push the hell out him. If we get a decent WR with 2a or 2b, then he’s going to have to work especially hard to keep from being the slot guy. I know if I’ve been the big fish in the little pond, the way that Bowe has in the past, a young hot shot WR and a savvy veteran threatening to push me to the slot position is going to push me to bust ass to keep my job. strong competition is exactly what D. Bowe needs. That and some good old fashioned fundementals Charlie Weis style.

If Bowe can learn

to play the ball better, he can be a stand out receiver. He takes catches for granted a lot and ends up dropping a pass I would have caught in my sleep. that said..

I love his size, he can maul DBs and always defeats the jam. He fights for balls and is a safer bet than most if you are forced to throw into coverage

by SillyHatDay on Mar 21, 2010 5:35 PM CDT reply actions

I agree

Maybe Bowe and DJ are similar to a degree. Things come easy (naturally) to them.
Time to be PRO’s though. Focus, dedicate, and the Money continues else…..

D. Bowe will have a carrer year and I'm not saying that just b/c I love all Chiefs.

D. Bowe had two impressive years starting out in the league, and maybe got a little big headed and lazy going into his third IMO.
He tried to cut corners but was caught using PED’s and then suspended.
Now he’s in his fourth year and I hope D. Bowe comes out with an attitude like he’s out there to prove something, with a chip on his shoulder and a little embarassed, no more messing around.
Plus we have a better Oline than we’ve had in a while and a running game and C. Weis and another year with Cassell. Go Chiefs.

These reasons make me believe Bowe will be better this year. Although I admit to some skepticism and frustration about him because of his catch (or lack thereof) problem. If he doesn’t show significant improvement this year we need to move on.

I agree.

If D.Bowe doesn’t tear it up or at least improve this year with all this help around him.. then we have to move on, no more excuses. We don’t need lazy players.

well say bye to DBOWE

even tho im using reverse sike on myself

by anewstart on Mar 21, 2010 7:22 PM CDT up reply actions

He has the talent, he just needs to commit to being the best.

Like has been stated, D. Bowe has great size, is not afraid to catch the ball in traffic, and proved his first couple of years that he can be a star receiver in the league. With Chambers, on the other side, and hopefully a decent slot guy, he has no excuses to play this year, like he did last year. I totally agree, this is a make or break year for him. If the dropsies continue, he could be gone, or, at least, be demoted to a number 2. Cassel loves to work with his receivers, in the offseason, and Bowe needs to put in the extra work with Cassel, to display the desire to improve, and get them more on the same page.

Just because he was born female does not make him less of a man/player today.

Predictions:

1) Fans will feel just scads better from mid-to-end of the 2010 season.
2) During the 2021 season, Ryan Succop will become the Chiefs’ all-time leading scorer with 1469 points.

by Dove40 on Mar 21, 2010 8:25 PM CDT reply actions

I didn't vote

because I think he can be a very good #2 (as opposed to “at best”), but I think that would be the best case scenario in how to utilize him.

I didn't vote either

I have no idea on Bowe or for that matter DJ.
Only they can determine what they will be or become. I hope for the best though :)

I couldnt vote

its between hes a beast and at best a #2 in the league. If you put, solid #1 receiver, but when reaaches potential could become elite

by JC25FoMVP on Mar 22, 2010 8:22 AM CDT reply actions

Yep...

I had to vote at best #2, because he’s not an elite #1…although he does have the potential.

Don't Fuccop Succop
