Chiefs Expected To Visit With Idaho G Mike Iupati
The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to bring in Idaho G Mike Iupati for a pre-draft visit, according to Scout.com.
Joining the Chiefs working out Iupati are expected to be the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Diego Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
That's 15 total teams.
Iupati is projected to be selected in the 16-23 range, according to Scout.com, so a visit with the Chiefs would be due diligence on the Chiefs part in the event Iupati falls or they can trade up or down.
Way back in January, SB Nation's draft blog, Mocking The Draft, compared him to a familiar player.
The question about Iupati is where to play him. His footwork, arm length and strength is so good he could probably play left tackle. Iupati could be the next Branden Albert – a solid tackle with little upside. Or he could stick at guard and start from Day 1.
I imagine the Chiefs won't get a shot at Iupati the way things stand now.

Another one huh.
This guy must be good. 15 teams want to work this guy out? Wow. Maybe we should get him.
NFL + Samoan = dominate
My long, drawn-out predictions that no one cares about, nor will bother to remember:
1. Todd Haley will still be the Chiefs Head Coach up to the 2011 season.
2. Clancy Pendergast won't make it to the 2010 season and was never intended to. Last-minute hire for a position that needed to be filled.
3. Todd Haley will not be the OC at the start of the 2010 season.
+1 indeed.
Cry Havoc! And let slip the Chiefs Defense of War!!!

Sometimes you end up with Saleaumua or Polamalu...
Other times one ends up with Junior Siavii, Marquis Tuiasosopo, or Mario Fatafehi.

He was a good college QB
Not a good NFL QB. Not the right skill set.

I looked at his numbers and you were right
I remember when he came in against the Chiefs and played a very good game. I thought that he had great potential.
I remember that game
It was definitely an embarrassment for KC. Ugh. Talk about what was wrong with Carl Peterson’s ship.
Tui was awesome in college, though. I remember watching him pass for 300yds. and rush for 200yds.—in the same game! He was the first person in college football (at least Division I-A; not sure about lower divisions) to ever do that, and I’m not certain anyone has done it since. He took the Huskies to an awesome season one year, too, earning the MVP award for the Rose Bowl when he took them to a win.
More Tui trivia I can remember: he took over for Brock Huard, whom the Seahawks once thought to be the future at QB for them, before Jon Kitna took the helm. Brock Huard is the brother of Damon Huard, of course.
Anyway, although I didn’t really like UW, and didn’t see much in Tui as far as pro potential, I did like the guy. He seemed like a stand-up kid.

I'm impressed
You’re remembering things that I’d forgotten about and I live up here.
Billy Joe Hobert was another Husky that I thought had some potential wasted in Raiderville.
You live up there?
Tell me something: is there much substance to the appearance of rampant corruption in the county where UW is? I’ve read extensively about Jerramy Stevens and other cases involving Huskies football players, and it seems like that DA who chose to keep dropping charges against that rapist drunk driver (and many others) has been venerated upon his death, rather than reviled as he should have been. I’m not saying this as anything anti-UW, but rather in amazement the more I find out about the Stevens saga.

Yeah, for 22 years now.
I wasn’t privey to a lot of what happened but yes, there’s truth in what you said. There has been a history of things that have been swept under the rug at the UW and in King County in general. Perhaps unrelated, however I’m not a big fan of the “Left Coast” if you catch my meaning.
you'll see his cousin in the NFL soon
he was always one of the more elite QB’s at all the “All Poly” football camps here in Hawaii

We have an awful lot of linemen on the roster right now.
My question is, if we drafted Lupati, who goes? By signing Lilja, we’ve already solved one guard issue, there. Waters while he won’t be around forever, I don’t see us drafting a guy to ride the pine on the O-Line, at least in the first round. Albert is still a pretty good Left Tackle, and if this guy is getting comparisons to Albert, then, where would we put him? Better to get someone that will plug a definate hole right now. Don’t get me wrong, if we could get Lupati in the second round, that would be a steal, and I’d say do it in a heartbeat, but, right now, we have way too many holes to fix. Also, I think we can all agree that Weigmann is a stopgap measure, so, Center at this point is the biggest hole on the O line. Where do we fix that? Next year? or later in the draft this year? What about Right Tackle? is O’Callighan the guy there? or do we need to draft a RT? Where do we draft that player if that’s the case? Is the replacement already on the roster? Just a few questions worth thinking of. Still, I kind of hope this guy falls to the second round.

Let Niswanger be the swing guard, Wiegmann at backup center.

I say
We move to Lilja to LG because he’s better at pass protection, put Iupati at RG because he can be more of the “rock” to open up running lanes, and find a new RT because ROC sucked!! He allowed I think 9 sacks, maybe after an offseason he’ll learn better but he seems like nothing more than a backup…Saffold,Veldheer, or Calloway would be great pickups in the draft.

Just curious
I don’t know anything about the guy, but why didn’t he play LT at idaho?
That's a pretty darn good question
I admit I didn’t watch much of Idaho. I actually think the only two I caught were when they lost to Washington and Boise State, and Iupati wasn’t all that bad in either, but he didn’t stand out to the point that I was enthralled and scratching my head about why he wasn’t the LT. My guess is their normal LT was experienced, and they wanted to just get Iupati on the field, much like Branden Albert with Eugene Monroe. Also, Idaho did rush almost twice as often as they passed, and lots of that was interior running, so that could explain to a certain extent.

Yeah...
they put him at right tackle and right guard. He looked like a fish out of water. I think this guy is strictly a LG. The 16-23 range seems too high for me.
1. Suh will fall to us at 5
2. McClain will fall to us at 2a
3. The Chiefs will trade DJ and keep Dorsey

Why isn't anyone capitalizing the "L"?
(calm down…it’s a joke)
Predictions:
1) Fans will feel just scads better from mid-to-end of the 2010 season.
2) During the 2021 season, Ryan Succop will become the Chiefs’ all-time leading scorer with 1469 points.
Does this count as a private interview?

I'd pass on the guard position, looks like we will be addressing the skill position on "O"
TE, WR, and a lot of defensive players.
