Chiefs Coaching Staff Helping In Free Agency

The question has been asked before around here.

How much is the Chiefs new coaching staff helping in free agency?

Answer: It's definitely helping and it's helping with key players.

WR Chris Chambers recently credited Charlie Weis and the Chiefs coaching staff as a reason for his return to Kansas City.

Star-divide

"The whole time I felt like in the back of my head I felt like I was going to be back in Kansas City and that's what my agent was pushing for," he said to Soren Petro on the Red Zone Podcast. "I had interest from other teams but all and all they didn't offer me what the Chiefs could do for me. I think the coaching staff they picked up this year, I think that helped my decision.

"It made sense for my career to come back."

Todd Haley also told the players after the season that an offseason goal was to stabilize the coaching staff.

Whether it's a good thing or bad thing is yet to be determined, but Chambers said laughingly that he's heard Weis has a similar coaching style to Haley.

"I heard a lot of great things [about Weis]," he said. "Heard he can be a tough coach but that's what it takes to get it done at times when you're trying to win games."

The additions of Weis and Romeo Crennel are helping not only the current crop of players, but they're important tools in the recruitment of other players in free agency.

sounds good to me

put together a great coaching staff and the players are going to want to come and play here!

Are we the team to beat in 2010? I sure think so! Go Chiefs.

I guess Haley is not chasing of the players he wants to keep

Whether it’s a good thing or bad thing is yet to be determined, but Chambers said laughingly that he’s heard Weis has a similar coaching style to Haley.

I am so psyched right now

I hardly ever paid attention to the draft before now. It always seemed to be a crap shoot, and still is, but everything I hear about the depth this year and all the prep the Chiefs staff is doing with the pro days and private workouts I can’ help but think we are going to end up with 3-4 guys who will start or contribute in 2010-2011.
Also UDAs with a choice will definitely consider going to a team with Crennel/ Weis

Wait and See...

approach for me. I’m excited as hell, but I want to wait and see how the coaching translates to the players actually playing. I’m optimistic, but don’t want to get my hopes up too high…

Things to get the Chiefs back on the winning side of football:

1. Haley resign as offensive coordinator or do the following;
a. Feed JC more
b. Take the cuffs off of Cassel and let him air it out
2. Fire Clancy "Calls" Playslikeass

I'm with you fan72. I am super excited. I let myself daydream about us kicking absolute ass this year,

but then I snap back to reality. It’s still unknown. So. I will wait and see with you brother. We’ll find out together. Rec’d

Agreed...

Probably too early to think about kicking ass. But I l feel like we are on the right track to be competitive and maybe win half of the games we had a chance to win but didn’t lost year (sorry, last year) ie Batlimore, New England.
If we that far in 2010 I’ll be happy, then who knows.

So

I had the right to remain silent… but I didn’t have the ability.

I told you guys this would happen

I betcha Peppers would have come here just because of the staff. We just wasnt trying to play the biding wars with Veterans. We’re playing with…Do you want a championship? Are you a “team” player? Can you help us get there? Exactly how smart are you really at your position?

As far as recruiting

Kevin Faulk said he had conversation with Weis before re-signing with NE so yes the staff is recruiting
