How much better will we be in 2010?

At the end of 2009 we were ranked 25th Total Offense, 30th Total Defense, 25th in Passing and Receiving, 11th in Rushing, 31st in Sacks, 31st in Rushing yards allowed, and T-16th Interceptions.

It is safe to say the most needed position right now is OLB and ILB followed by LT and Safety or Cornerback.

So far in the FA we have added better depth at the RB position with Jones increasing our ability to run the ball so let’s say we only improve our rating to 9th.

Here is a great idea we need to trade down in this draft because it is full of potential. The best case scenario is we need to trade to Buffalo for the 9th and the 41st pick of the draft.

1st round 9th pick:  Trent Williams or Bruce Campbell LT.

2nd Round 36th pick:  Jerry Hughes OLB   142 Tackles, 28 Sacks, (3 years)

2nd Round 41st pick:  Sean Lee MLB 324 Tackles, 10 Sacks, (4 years)

2nd Round 50h pick:  Nate Allen S  216 Tackles, 10int., (3 years)

3rd Round 68th pick: Dorin Dickerson TE/WR This man had a 4.4 40, and 43.5 vertical at the combine and he's 6'5 260lbs

4th Round 99th pick: Jordan Shipley WR  6’0 190lbs, 3191 yards, 33 TD

If these players came in all of them would be starters.

OFFENSE:  Williams LT, Water LG, Casey C, Lilja RG, Alberts RT, QB Cassel, RB Charles, WR Chambers, WR Bowe, SLOT Shipley, TE Dorin.

DEFENSE:   LOLB Hali, MLB Johnson, MLB Lee, ROLB Hughes, DT Dorsey, NT Shaun, DE Jackson, CB Flowers, CB Carr, FS Page, S Allen.

What does this mean?  Well for one what team is going to be able to cover a deep threat WR like Chambers, while trying to maintain coverage on a TE that can run faster and jump higher than anyone on the field also while covering a WR that can catch in traffic and a SLOT receiver that runs perfect routes. LET’S NOT FORGET THE BEST RUN GAME with Charles and Jones. I would say our total offensive rating would increase to 15th

By adding Huges and Lee our sack total would increase to 30 to 35 making our sack rating (based on last year’s totals) 18th and now that we added a NT and MLB and a better ROLB then Williams it’s safe to say our run defense will be better and our interceptions will be more since there will be more pressure so if we increase our run defense rating to 25th and our interceptions rating to10th our total Defensive rating would be 18th

That would make us playoff bound.

Bruce Campell and/or Trent Williams will not be chiefs. Shipley is not even close to a 4th round pick, he wont make it out of round 2, let alone 3. I like the Jerry Hughes and Dorin Dickerson pick though. Well, sort of on the Dorin Dickerson.

Hi. My big board for KC's first rounder is:
1. Russell Okung, OT
2. Eric Berry, S
3. Rolondo McClain, ILB
4. Brian Bulaga, OT
5. Dan Williams, NT
Bye.

Thanks

There is no way Shipley will be going in the 2nd round there isn’t a mock draft out there that says he will be gone in the 2nd round there might be a draft that says he’s gone in the late 3rd round.

Nice post and rec

Some have Shipley in the 5th.
I like Sean Lee as an ILB lots of value
I would swap the 1st round tackle and grab Dez Bryant if there :)
then maybe with 68 due to already adressing wr later grab Walton for Center.
Just me IMO

Disagree with you on 2 things

First we wont be pick either one of the guys you listed in the first. Secondly you don’t have us drafting a NT at all.

sheesh BAMF can’t you count?

RobbyT, how do you get to the point of claiming that theoretical team is “playoff bound” … did you win a PC simulation? Campbell in the 1st round? at #9 pic??? only if Scott Pioli suddenly becomes as stupid as Al Davis … you spent a first round pick on OLine after Pioli has spent the off-season building it up with a guy like Spoon on the board? no NT in the mix and, assuming Berry is gone by the #9 pick why no Haden?

and you “assume” that ALL those guys would be … 1) starters, and 2) absolute upgrades … which is often NOT the case even for high round draft picks … and, perhaps you might want to consider what the OTHER teams do in the draft, how much Chargers and Broncos improve

Thanks

Trent Williams is the second best LT in the Draft why wouldn’t we pick him? Also if we don’t pick him at nine we will pick him at 5 I will bet on that. The only option at 5 are Berry, and Bulaga and Williams and we wont spend that kind of money on a S and we wont take that sorry * Bulaga.

Williams

Why won’t we pick him? Because he’s an OT. At this point OT is not a necessity or a top need. G/C, yes but not OT. OT with 1st rd pick is an absolute waste of a pick. Would be stupid imo with all the other options we have and can take. We have the money to pay Berry, money is not the problem and Pioli would have no problem playing someone with the talent and player that deserves it. Berry will soon be one of best safeties in the league, he will be the game changing safety we need

No OT

well we are 1-0 in 2010...

Can’t start better than that :D

Good ideas, but...

I can’t see Buffalo trading with us if they have a mind-set to draft Clausen. They can’t take the chance ’Skins take him at #4. To be safe, they have to deal with Tampa Bay. However, there is a similar scenario…see my fan post “Attention: Chan Gailey…”. That scenario would have very similar results to you proposed trade.

...addendum...

…you don’t really see S. Smith as our NT, do you?

by Special K on Mar 21, 2010 3:27 AM CDT up reply actions

He is 28...3 years he will be done (we are luck if we do get 3 years out of him).

It take D-Linemen 3 years to come up to speed….so, we still NEED to draft one this year.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS 2010 DRAFT: (top 6 picks)
1.05) Eric Berry (S – Tennessee)
2.36) Jerry Hughes (DE/OLB – Texas Christian)
2.51) Terrence Codi or Cam Thomas (NT – Alabama / NC)
3.68) Jon Asamoah (OL – Illinois)
4.99) Jordan shipley (WR/PR – Texas)
5.133) Mitch Petrus (OL – Arkansas)

by DivineGrace on Mar 21, 2010 6:43 AM CDT up reply actions

and Special K is right ... the trade is unlikely to happen and there was just a post on it

another mock draft “ho hum” that should probably go on the mock draft of the week thread …

and a lot of people would STONGLY disagree with the following assumption:

It is safe to say the most needed position right now is OLB and ILB followed by LT

Jerry Hughes in the 2nd round

sounds like the most sensible draft move here.

by mikedkc on Mar 21, 2010 11:18 AM CDT reply actions

We will be 55.23% better overall.

Predictions:

1) Fans will feel just scads better from mid-to-end of the 2010 season.
2) During the 2021 season, Ryan Succop will become the Chiefs’ all-time leading scorer with 1469 points.

to answer your question

we will be the team to beat in 2010!

Are we the team to beat in 2010? I sure think so! Go Chiefs.

I agree we will be better but we need to draft a NT and future C also
