Tim Tebow's media attention.

Is anyone else fed up with how much media attention Tim Tebow gets from ESPN, and other media sources? The guy got invited to the draft, even though he is likely a 3rd rounder at best. (Out of 18 invites, they couldn't find someone who is more deserving?) I see him as a 4th rounder. Why don't they talk about QB's that are going to be better, and drafted higher more often, like Dan LeFevour or maybe even Tony Pike? Does anybody else get it? They talk about Tebow more than Sam Bradford and Jimmy Clausen! At the NFL combine, on the day QB's did their drill, it became annoying how much attention he kept getting. Everytime before they went to a commercial, they had to show him, and they always had to spend a few minutes every time to talk about him. The guy isn't even that good and won't be a starter.

ESPN makes it even worse to by talking about it on each individual show! PTI, Sports Nation, Around the horn, Jim Rome is burning, and sports center! Just stop! Nobody is concerned about a 3rd day player at this point, and I'm sure fans want to hear more about who their team may be targeting in round 1. It's becoming as annyoing and routine as something like: Tim Tebow clipped his fingernails, how will this hurt/help his draft stock? Here is our ESPN draft insider Mel Kiper (A.K.A. Dracula) with more on the topic.  So please, stop the annoyance, and quit talking about Tebow! I'm talking to you ESPN!

at ths point, I'll take Tebow attention anyday

over that bullshit Tiger Woods crap we have to see every 10 minutes!

Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!

I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

Rare

Its rare for a player of tebow’s leadership along with his record of winning and setting collegiate records to come to the NFL,that is why they cover him so much, if he didnt have the elongated throwing motion he would be the top pick in the draft, that is why there is so much attention on him. His leadership will prove itself immediately for whomever drafts him. If he can progressively improve his throwing motion(which he has done drastically already) he will be a steal for the team lucky enough to draft him. He WILL be drafted in the first round i have no doubt about that(if he wasnt a rare player why else would NFL teams be so interested in a player who has a detrimental throwing motion!(id like to state that i am also a tennessee volounteer fan, i HATE florida with a passion) i believe we would be lucky to draft him! He would change the attitude of our team immediately!

Tebow

He was the darling of the SEC.

He is a great leader and a good football player.

The question is can he become an NFL QB – I guess in the right situation, behind a veteran, he can learn the ropes.

The perfect situation for Tebow would be Seattle, behind Hasselback.

Oh boy

Don’t let craig in calgary see this. He’s already threatening to leave us and join whichever team drafts him. Tebow will need a couple years grooming at least, but no one can question his competiveness or leadership. Having said that, there is too much tebowmania in this world…

Okay admittedly I didn't know of Tebow before this offseason. But since then...

I don’t know why anybody is angry with him for the media attention. Here’s some breaking news for everyone TIM TEBOW DOES NOT OWN A TELEVISION NETWORK. Sssshhhhhh! That’s our secret on AP only.

Its not HIS fault that the media is hounding him. But I can tell you a couple reasons why he deserves this. He went and got himself a trainer to transition him to the NFL style QB. He worked his butt off and came out and gave it his best shot. He didn’t hide. He know he wasn’t going to put on a perfect show with only 6 weeks training.

But instead of being a coward like half the other QB’s this offseason, he showed and showed how much he cares about learning the position and wants it. That matters to a lot of coaches. The desire. The fearlessness. I don’t know if he’ll suck or he’ll rock in the NFL. But I appreciate him not hiding behind his agent and sliding into the draft without lifting a finger this offseason to show his skills.

He's the kind of guy i'd want on my team

Maybe not as a rookie starting QB. But he has everything else you want from a football player. I won’t say he’ll be a bust or he’ll be a franchise QB, but I won’t bet against him.

And I completely agree with Kray, its not his fault that the media slobs over him. He’s a two-time national champion and heisman trophy winner that gives you great soundbites. He’s a journalists dream.

He doesn’t fit with us right now, but he won’t be in the AFC west and I’m happy about that.

1. Are they an upgrade over what we already have?
2. Do they have high football IQ?
3. Can they make a difference from Day 1?
4. Do they have a history of leadership?

he goes to Jacksonville in the 2nd round.

2. McClain will fall to us at 2a
3. The Chiefs will trade DJ and keep Dorsey

Ah the irony

Isn’t writing an article complaining about the overcoverage of Tebow kind of like a fat guy complaining he’s fat while eating a double bacon whopper? The reason why its covered so much is obvioulsy there is a viewing audience because there hasn’t been a prospect this unique in quite some time. He’s captivating, good in front of a camera and an interesting story. If u don’t find it interesting, turn the freaking channel.

Tebow getting media coverage? I'm shocked, stunned ...

ok, I lied … but ONLY because you can’t do the sarcasm font in the header, dig? ok, so Tebow is this year’s Media Darling … I have zero issues with that, none at all … good for Tebow (not my favorite player, but I wish him well except when we get Spoon and my man stuffs him for a loss)

now, I don’t watch TV (no cable TV so what do I care) and I don’t hit the ESPN page online (I can go to KC Strar online for my Poz fix) and if Tebow’s face or name shows up on Yahoo headline I don’t have to click on it

no, I’m tired of Berry Berry Berry here on AP {{grinning}} although I admit I think that was LAST week’s fad and we’re on to bigger and better wastes of bandwagon gas

and yeah, people … it is so nice to NOT see Tiger Woods face all the time … or Favre … Tom Brady’s ankle, Tom Brady’s girlfriend, Tom Brady’s dog’s girlfriend …

South Park can be a hoot ...

my favorite was not long after 911 and the kids hopped a plane for Afghanistan to hunt down … who knows,. probably food …

(background info: I’m in Denver metro, and the east suburb of town is Aurora, but has so many
people of middle eastern descent we jokingly call it Saudi Auroria)

so they get off the plane, hit the tamac, look around and one of the kids says “wow, it looks like East Denver”

omg we were rolling

Tebow is very accessible and seems to be a pretty good dude. That is why the Media loves him.

He isn’t affraid to talk to you or tell you what is on his mind. At times he seems a little in your face with the whole Baby Jesus thing but in the end who really cares? He is one of the most celebrated college athletes in history and the attention he gets is justified by his accomplishments.

Fact. Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.

by BigRedChief on Mar 19, 2010 11:28 AM CDT reply actions

I typically avoid ESPN anymore.

The reason is because of what you point out. They pick a story, and they mine it beyond exhaustion.

However, from a journalism standpoint, the media coverage is going to follow the drama. Tebow is great drama.

- He pits the college fans against pro fans because here is one of the most heralded and decorated college players to ever play the position, and every pro scout says he’s not good enough to play the position at the pro level.

- He is the poster child for the gym-class-evaluators versus the go-to-the-tape-evaluators. His physical skills don’t translate as world class for a QB; but the guy is a winner and a leader on the field, which he has proven time and again.

- The repeated reports that he is going to fail make him an underdog candidate for the draft, and most people love an underdog.

- He is completely reinventing his mechanics between the combine and the draft. How much more drama do you need than that?

- His “Baby Jesus thing,” as BigRedChief put it, provides a discussion topic in America all by itself.

- He’s clean-cut, good-looking, and well-spoken. All of those translate well to having him on camera repeatedly.

So, whether we think he’s the most talented player in the draft, or not, he’s going to get a lot of air-time based on these things. The fact that ESPN is a 24-hour sports news network, along with the fact that the NFL is the biggest story in sports news, means that they are going to find reasons to keep the NFL in the news to keep ratings up. With the limited FA market, all of that focus is going to be on the draft. Bradford and Claussen have better physical skills, but the “I wonder if he’s healthy” stories aren’t nearly as exciting as Tebow reinventing his mechanics.

why watch espn when you can get more information on this site and others? I hate that channel

by kc- on Mar 19, 2010 2:17 PM CDT up reply actions

I just think its crazy...

that Tebow gets talked about more than any other player entering the draft, when a large amount of players are miles ahead of him. His college career is over, and his NFL career won’t amount to anything. How often do they talk about McClain, or Berry, or any other 1st round prospect anymore? Tebow is taking up too much of their time, and they aren’t focusing on anyone else.

Hi. My big board for KC's first rounder is:
1. Russell Okung, OT
2. Eric Berry, S
3. Rolondo McClain, ILB
4. Brian Bulaga, OT
5. Dan Williams, NT

Tim Tebow comments = 1,351
Eric Berry comments = 4,192

The FanPosts and FanShots follow suit with a 3 to 1 ratio in Berry’s favor.

It could be worse, it could be wall to wall Favre

Don’t fool yourself though. Half the media attention is being brought on by Tebow himself. He has a great PR team that is pushing him to the forefront.

Even accepting the draft day invite is calculated to keep him in the eyes of the media and the GM’s.

If it gets him moved up even one spot, it was completely worth it. I think it’s going to end up moving him a round. From 3 to 2. Still going to be a long night for him on April 22

Just did an experiment where I went to ESPN.com, stayed on the front page, hit Control +F, then typed in Tebow. Sure enough, HIS NAME IS MENTIONED ON THE FRONT PAGE!!!! I am going to keep trying this experiment. I just tried it with the top 5 draft prospects, and none were mentioned on the front page. I hate ESPN!
