Chiefs Taking Another Look At OL Vladimir Ducasse

During the 2009 college season, Chiefs GM Scott Pioli personally attended a workout with offensive lineman Vladimir Ducasse. The Chiefs also met with him at the Senior Bowl.

Now we're hearing via Adam Caplan of Scout.com that the Chiefs have a private workout set up with the tackle.

He's a little raw, according to accounts, but has drawn heavy interest from the Chiefs who need offensive line help.

He's also meeting with the Vikings and Cowboys.

Here are a few other links we've had on Ducasse:

Cowboys?

Do the Cowboys have a lot of scouts or something? I’ve seen them looking at a lot of the same people we look at.

He’d be a nice long term project at T or G. With the moves of Weigmann and Leljia, it appears our starting OL is pretty set with Albert-Waters-Rudy/Casey-Leljia-O’Callagahan, and we should be drafting only for depth and developement at G and Tackle.

by dablueguy on Mar 18, 2010 3:18 PM CDT reply actions

We need another Tackle

We only have Albert, O’Callaghan, and Richardson. So far, Albert is so-so as a LT, O’Calaghan is a year removed from being released, and Richardson may not even make the roster. We should add some serious depth, either with a new starting Tackle or a legitimate backup/prospect. I’ll be pretty disappointed if we don’t draft OL in the first 3 rounds.

Injuries happen. Casey is older, O’Callaghan could regress, Lilja could have been released for a legitimate flaw, Waters could age, etc. If we don’t bring in more talent, we’ll be left scrambling for talent again in the near future.

BTW

I’m not trying to be negative, i’m quite hopeful for Albert and O’callaghan going forward. But that doesn’t change the fact that we need more depth, even if they both improve.

by VermeilLikesToCry on Mar 18, 2010 3:51 PM CDT up reply actions

maybe

OT depth is CRUCIAL to your team.

IF you’re confident you can get someone that can help your team, even if he doesnt’ start on day one… it could be worth a 2nd.

As we have seen 3rd rounders (Charles) and 7th rounders (Succop) CAN become starters… so it’s not like you’re done after round 2

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* KC will NOT draft a LT in the first round, and the draft WILL be heavy on defense

But the widebodies are WAY out in the tail of the bell curve to start with.

Getting someone who’s actually GOOD in that size group isn’t something you necessarily find below the top 4 or 5 players, in any given year.

I dunno. I like the kind of player Lilja is, in general.

But does this mean a shakeup at LG, the natural position for both Lilja and Waters? Maybe Lilja pushes to play C. I kinda like the idea of a 6’2’’ 290 lb, hardworking C. Might be worth a look. Or maybe Waters moving to C. Or maybe KC’s just wanting to actually ROTATE its O-Linemen, and being 2-deep across the line… What a novel concept.

I DO like what the old Dallas teams did with a smaller, quicker C between two giNORmous Gs. I can understand the interest in Ducasse, by a team that can afford to be patient, because he’s likely to slip down to “Whatta Steal!” territory.

He has some

monstrous dimensions. His frame and size are outstanding.

4th at best I think

He’s raw and will need a lot of coaching up. Not saying it’s not possible, but it seems like we always have too many “project” players to worry about that takes time away from coaching the elite talent.

by ARROWHEADSHANE on Mar 18, 2010 3:32 PM CDT up reply actions

problem is...

he’ll likely get drafted in the 2nd round.

And, he’s the prospect KC has been linked to more often than any other.

So, don’t be shocked if Pioli takes him

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* keep Albert at LT, upgrade the positions that NEED upgrading.C, RG, NT, S, LB

This guy is going to be a BUM

Just my opinion. I dont think we need any more projects unless we pick this guy up in the 6th

or maybe the 7th!

This description ("raw but good potential")

reminds me of two players, one of which turned out very well and one didn’t (at least for the chiefs). Blossomed well = tamba hali. Bust for the chiefs = junior siavii (although dallas seems to have done a little better with him.).

The worst thing about Jordan Black & the Chiefs ....

He stayed on the roster & Lilja was cut. That was pretty good judgment by Dick V & company wasn’t it!

by Chief1 on Mar 18, 2010 6:31 PM CDT up reply actions

In defense of Black

he was shuffled around the line so much that he never was given a chance to get comfortable anywhere. He was a guard in college, originally played guard for KC and then was forced to fill in at left tackle, which is easily the most difficult linemen position to play.

Besides, he was just a 5th round pick. The fact that he playing at all makes the 4th round selection of Florida State OT Brett Williams seem even worse…along with the other OT projects like Kevin Sampson, Jeremy Parquet and Will Svitek.

The studs from the 2010 draft class will be: DT Ndamukong Suh, S Eric Berry, RB C.J. Spiller, RB Jahvid Best, WR Arrelious Benn, WR Golden Tate, WR Mardy Gilyard, OT Charles Brown, CB Kyle Wilson and S Chad Jones

I kinda felt the same way about Sackintosh.

Just because the team screwed up and put a G where he didn’t belong, you don’t just throw the G away. You throw him into the G mix. I think maybe Sackintosh and Black somehow became “T or nothing” propositions, when Sackintosh, in particular, might’ve risen to the top of the depth chart @ G.

Hopefully Lilja is just now entering his prime.

This guy

would be a great pick with our 2nd 2nd rounder. Gives us a RT depending on what we do in round 1.

Hi.

by Regime on Mar 19, 2010 1:08 AM CDT reply actions

Did a quick bit of reading-up on Ducasse.

Seems like my lukewarm impression of him during Senior Bowl week (an embarrassing number of hours I watched) and in the Senior Bowl are in line with what some of his Senior Bowl critics said, at the time (Google Ducasse and read the articles). He’s gone from a LT prospect to the #2 G prospect on mockingthedraft, IIRC. Could be a real value pick at some point, because of his raw potential and work ethic.

But “raw” also applies to him in not-so-good ways. Like most of the higher-rated OL I saw Senior Bowl week, he looked like a guy who got there just by being huge, and didn’t look all that good against the higher-rated DL prospects as an OT. Definitely a long-term project for T, but I think it likely he could hold his own at RG, as is.
