LB Rolando McClain, S Earl Thomas Top the Kansas City Chiefs' Latest Draft Interests

We're back with another update of who the Kansas City Chiefs are interested in in this year's upcoming NFL draft.

Since our last update, I've added a good mix of offensive and defensive players. This list is compiled from stories we've reported here on AP. As an FYI to the newbies, the list is not comprehensive and it never will be. There are some players the Chiefs will work out or be interested in that we won't hear about.

We're currently at nearly 50 players the Chiefs are reportedly interested in. Let us know who I've missed in the comments and I'll update the post. I really dig how this is a community effort, so keep the "corrections" coming. The collective AP mind is more powerful than you or I.

I sorted the list by projected round this time. I'll work on getting this table sortable for you guys this weekend. Unfortunately I don't have access to our CSS or else that would be a snap and I could make the table snazzier. You fellow geeks out there know what I'm talking about.

They're all there...after the jump....

I heard the same thing.

They’ll bring him back some spicy BBQ and breakfast tacos, I’m sure.

A couple days ago he had a private work out. Not really sure if they are interested though.

Are you able to directly manipulate the pages HTML?

It’s been a while since I have done front end work, but last I remembered you can include multiple CSS files.

You could make your own custom CSS file and use that on your table. Just make sure your ids/classes are unqiue otherwise you might overwrite sbnation’s styles. Cause the last CSS file takes precedence. Again if I am remembering correctly.

Im glad were showing interested in Earl Thomas

Id be happy with Earl or Berry. Both are bonafide playmakers in the secondary.

seriously not putting Berry?

wow. Yeah, I guess Romeo working him out wouldn’t make me think they were interested in him.

If Eric Berry can play all the positions in the secondary, I would make that reach.

So your telling me he can play corner? Is he a “shutdown” corner? Like a the Jets corner, Grieve? Like a Bailey? I know they compare him to Reed alot. I know thats good, real good. So basically, he can play 4 positions, and he’s comfortable playing left or right. If this is the case, Why not? You can put him anywhere back there. With Flowers, Carr, Page, Berry in the backfield, the other teams have to pick their poison.

ive heard he can line us at Cornerback as well as Safety

Regardless of who the Chiefs pick at #5 overall, Whitlock will call it the worst pick in the history of the Chiefs. Heres to hoping that #5 pick runs Whitlock out of town.....

by jrcnc on Mar 18, 2010 11:05 AM CDT up reply actions

yes he can

He can play all 5 positions in the secondary. The value of drafting berry at 5 is so great. He is the most versatile, athletic, game changing guy in the draft. If people didn’t put these invisible bench marks on players in the draft, Berry would go 2nd in the draft. He and Suh are THE BEST players in this draft, bar-none

by Larryemcdaniel on Mar 18, 2010 11:06 AM CDT up reply actions

only 2 offensive linemen in that group

none of them Centers :(

Tyson Aluala, a possible late 2nd, early 3rd round gem!

I’ve read some pretty good things about this kid, as a true NT at Cal., who plays the 3-4. I’ve seen him rated as high as the 5th rated NT in the draft. We could likely nab him with 2b or in the 3rd. He could be a long term solution for a real position of need, and could rotate with Smith, Edwards, whoever, and get some playing time. At worse, a project player, at best a starter in the near future.

There once was a man from Nantucket......Nevermind.

by Racyman on Mar 18, 2010 11:31 AM CDT reply actions

what conclusions can you make???

Obviously, these players do not constitute a true indicator of who the Chiefs are interested in. For example last year only 3 players on the list were ever taken by the Chiefs in the draft or free agency 3/8draft picks and 15 free agents. The players were Tarrus Johnson the WR, Tyson Jackson and Jemarrius Williams from Tenn State.
However in this list you can conclude that the Chiefs want the following positions;
1. CB-they have spoken to 7 CBs that are to be picked up in rounds 2-PFA
2. WR-2 kick returners only-(Gilyard and Roberts) the other WR are generally tall-Meier, Cooper and Decker-Cooper though has a history of drops
3. LBs 7 split between OLBs and ILBs
4. S-Both SS and FS -I am including Berry in this list.

Surprises: Only 3 DLs and 4 OL-Only 1 pure NT (unless you add in troup who was coached by Crennel)
In spite of Pioli’s love affair with TEs only 2 TE are in the list.

What about Haden? No interest ?

Sounds like he blew up his pro day, and he was already projected high.
