Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

Sure, the Chiefs could still use some offensive upgrades, but they could take the field and be more formidable with the ball now than they were last season.

Defensively? Not so. When all you've done as far as personnel is add Shaun Smith to the league's 30th-ranked defense, you've got some work to do.

This somewhat further perpetuates the idea

that we will be drafting defense heavy. We have needs on both sides of the ball. We did what we could so far in free agency, and thus far it has helped the offense more than the defense. This draft seems to be setup to help us more on defense, and that is what we will do.

Agreed

I imagine we’ll take a WR in the draft, and an OL, but I think the rest of the picks are spent on Defense. Specifically a berry good safety, NT, a linebacker or 2 and some sort of all around special team player.

meant to mention this earlier

Someone posted a comment not too long ago that should stick with us chiefs fans especially. We should draft at least one lineman in every draft. This not only keeps us in quality starters, but also covers our depth.

The only thing with trading down is that

there seems to always be that desire at the top of the draft, but no one wants to come off the picks it take to move up.

Then, take in to consideration that this is a deep draft in terms of total talent. That is going to create greater reluctance to trade up, and essentially make is difficult for us to trade down.

I am on board with def picks

on offense we need a future center (walton? for example) he can be had in 3rd round. Can get a diff center in rds 4-5 too. And I beleive we need wr#3 or a te in this draft. That slot receiver (Tate? for example). I have a feeling we could go for either of the top te’s in the 2nd round too (if available). So basically i’m saying we only need a couple offensive players. But def we need bigtime players -NT, ILB and S.
It’s not even funny.

I just don't see us drafting a true center

I think it’s more of Pioli’s style to grab a guard or tackle, and if he doesn’t work out try to move him to center.

If we could trade down

get an additional 3rd and 5th (or even 2nd), why not trade a 3rd for Kirk Morrison? Draft Earl Thomas at S, Tate, Hughes (or Von Miller), and Cam Thomas or Troup. We’d have a S, WR, OLB, NT, and a solid starting ILB as a 3rd pick.

The right moves are being made for offense

Shawn Andrews has been released from Philly so theres another potential RG prospect. But don’t we still need a WR? If Tate’s available at 2a will they really pass on him? I agree the D needs adressed still FO SHO!!! We can get a future C next year in Chris O’Dowd.

Round 1: Eric Berry (and play him at FS)

Round 2(a), 2(b), 3, and 4: ILB, OLB, NT, SS (in no particular order)

Round 5-7: BPA (hopefully some sleeper offensive players or else offensive players who unexpectedly dropped)

The studs from the 2010 draft class will be: DT Ndamukong Suh, S Eric Berry, RB C.J. Spiller, RB Jahvid Best, WR Arrelious Benn, WR Golden Tate, WR Mardy Gilyard, OT Charles Brown, CB Kyle Wilson and S Chad Jones

In Pioli's world

Think it all depends on the QB situation when it gets to us. The way QB’s are stepping in and playing right off the bat, there will be someone trying to move up. Pioli has that New England mentality. More is better!

get that safety, get a slot receiver/returner or an inside lb or nose tackle with our first 3 picks. Grab center with 3rd rounder. And then next yr we just need 2 pieces! Grab that stud te next yr and whatever we didnt pick up this yr in the 2nd of ’11 draft.

This is the most disguting thing I've ever seen

It now shows us at pick #2 taking a QB and worst yet they have us taking Baluaga at #5 this year. Why do all the so called experts want us to take a LT so badly. And these are recently updated mocks, even after all the moves we’ve made in FA and the obviously glaring holes in D, I guess we should go O Line thats what the experts believe.

Hoping my investment in a 2010 season ticket turns out to be worthwhile.

by TheWall on Mar 18, 2010 1:01 AM CDT up reply actions

this is where I stand right now...still a work in progress

1st Eric Berry (S)
2nd Carlos Dunlap (DE) Terrence Cody (NT)
2nd Brandon Spikes (ILB) Maurice Pouncy ©
3rd Darrell Stuckey (SS) Torell Troup (NT)
4th Jason Fox (OT) Mitch Petrus (G)
5th Ciron Black (OT)
5th Lagarrette Blount (RB)
5th Myron Rolle (SS)

I have Carlos Dunlap at 2a instead of Terrence Cody for good reason. They are both boom or bust. If Dunlap is boom we could trade Dorsey for a 1st rounder next year maybe. And, there are 2 really good NT’s in the draft next year. So…maybe….a WR and NT with two 1st’s next year. There are also 3 monster WR’s next year.

Dunlop shouldn’t fall that far, but maybe
Spikes shouldn’t fall that far
Pouncey definitely won’t be there at 2b
Stuckey too high a pick
too many more O-line projects when we could get better value picks in 4th and 5th
We have no need for any RB’s in this draft unless you want to upgrade the FB position

I guess my issue is that the draft can fall a whole lot better without Berry on top.

Page may not be the best but he can play for the Chiefs. While a SS later has much more value, and we could address the Pass rush directly in the 1st round.
McClain probably ain’t the right pick either. One of the OLB/Tweeners 4/3 DE’s would be a perfect fit in pick and money.

Just it seems to me that if we go FS then we are chasing picks the rest of the draft.
Or we could pick someone else and be ahead of the curve. I posted a mock on the mock thread that might address what I mean :)

I just want picks

who are an improvement for both right now and for the future both. For example of what I dont want (and this will probably stir up some sh*t), another Tyson Jackson pick…there’s no argument that he’s better long-term than Alphonso Boone or Turk McBride, but I’m not convinced that he was better last year than they would have been. I would have rather seen other needs addressed first last year and then address DE this year, but it’s over with and I’m over with it. I just dont want to see something similar this year. And for the record, I do in fact like Tyson Jackson as a player.

Now for another example, we’re pretty strong at CB depth with Flowers, Carr, Leggett and Washington. However, if Kyle Wilson were to by some miracle fall to where we pick at 2B, then I say go for it because he’s an instant upgrade for both now and for the future.

I’m not really strung up on which specific positions I want KC to draft, I just dont want to see major reaches, a QB 5th overall (because they havent yet given Cassel enough weapons to work with to accurately judge him) or a LT 5th overall (not that I’m super high on Albert- I just dont think any OTs in this year’s draft are an instant or long-term upgrade over him)…oh, and of course the obvious 1st round no-nos like drafting a kicker or punter.

The studs from the 2010 draft class will be: DT Ndamukong Suh, S Eric Berry, RB C.J. Spiller, RB Jahvid Best, WR Arrelious Benn, WR Golden Tate, WR Mardy Gilyard, OT Charles Brown, CB Kyle Wilson and S Chad Jones

by kc_radrh8r on Mar 17, 2010 5:42 PM CDT up reply actions

When you get specific on a player is when all the reaching starts.

The players do have to have a specific skill set and the better at it the better….
Lots of teams run the 3-4 Defense and many are looking for the same type of player.
We can get a very good Strong-safety in the 2nd or 3rd round that would be an excellent playmaker with some better players around him. Free safeties are sprinkled throught the draft. Inside Linebackers big enough and talented enough to help us are not, Rush OLB that are again big and strong enough to stuff the run are very few. I could continue….

Exactly

with the reaching part (i.e. Tyson Jackson). And I’d love a SS at 2A, particularly Chad Jones but I wouldnt mind Larry Astante or Kam Chancellor in round 4. With the 5th overall pick, I prefer Berry just simply because I dont see anyone else worthy of that pick, even if he is a safety. I’d prefer to get an excellent pass rusher, but I dont see Derrick Morgan, Jason Paul-Pierre or anyone else being that guy. Now Sergio Kindle or Ricky Sapp in round two? Sure.

The studs from the 2010 draft class will be: DT Ndamukong Suh, S Eric Berry, RB C.J. Spiller, RB Jahvid Best, WR Arrelious Benn, WR Golden Tate, WR Mardy Gilyard, OT Charles Brown, CB Kyle Wilson and S Chad Jones

Vrable is 6'4 and 261

look in that direction. A run stopper( ie tackler) the need for this guy to be a pass coverage guy is minimal. If we have some ability with Both ILB to cover the middle shallows.

I've posted this before...

 1. (5) E. Berry/S
2a.(4) G. Tate/WR
2b.(18) J. Hughes/OLB
3. (4) T. Troup/NT
4. (4) J.D. Walton/C
5a.(5) A. Owusu-Ansah/CB
5b.(11) J. Conner/FB
5c.(17) M. Johnson/ILB

But, seeing what we’ve done to date in FA on offense; and how deep this years’ draft is defensively – I’d be ‘on board’ for a clean defensive sweep in the draft.

Any suggestions for editing the above?

Like it

if we can’t trade down I say HECK FREAKIN YES to Berry!!! But I would change a few things in the later rounds.

1 Berry
2 Tate (if gone then Hughes)
2 Cam Thomas/Brandon Spikes
3 Aaron Hernandez/Troup/Jordan Shipley (if Tate was gone)
4 Myron Rolle (or Javier Arenas)
5 Blount
5 M. Johnson
5 Kerry Meyer

I’m not a KU fan, but I do like Meyer and I think he’d be a solid addition, regardless of his poor college selection.

This is very easy to figure out

1) Brady Quinn is a shit bucket, and more than likely deserved to be punched in the mouth
2) We knew Quinn was going to get traded to the broncos
3) We know Josh McDaniels is going to push hard for Quinn to start
4) When Quinn is starting for the Broncos and looks up and see’s Shaun Smith 3 feet away from him with hate in his eyes, Quinn will crap his pants
5) This translates into 2 wins a year against the Broncos for as many years that Quinn is starting.
