Joe Haden: 4.44 (I knew he was that fast)
Aaron Hernandez: 4.61 (That was a given, given his YAC)
Brandon Spikes: 5.00 (WOW, talk about slow and dropping in the draft)
Carlos Dunlap: 4.63 (Excellent time for a 6’6 DE)

He’s just slow

I didnt think he was that slow though. Thats pretty freakn slow!

by Larryemcdaniel on Mar 17, 2010 12:11 PM CDT up reply actions

Haden need it; He’s back in the top 10, anda very outside, darkhorse possibility for us.
Spikes: He just affirmed McClain as the unquestioned, head and shoulders leader of the ILB pack, and a very viable candidate for us at #5 if Berry’s gone, and possibly even if Berry’s there, because there’s a bigger drop off behind McClain at his position then there is with berry behind his.

+1

Glad we can agree on one here, Blue. And I’m speaking of Haden.

His stock ‘dipped’ after the combine time, but that seemed weird when he ran a much better time then the ‘official’ time gave him credit for.

It wouldn’t shock me at all if Pioli took Haden if he couldn’t trade back and maybe his #1 target isn’t there.

Haden & Nhamdi would be ugly!

I would hate to have to face that twice a year.

His game tape says he slow

Hes a god LB, but he def wasnt a fast player at Florida. Def explosive though, when he did get to the ball carrier.

by Larryemcdaniel on Mar 17, 2010 12:17 PM CDT up reply actions

If he’s slow, he’s slow, and we already have a slow player at ILB that is good near the line of scrimmage, but too slow to play away from it, in Cory Mays. Sounds like Spikes is the same player.

by dablueguy on Mar 17, 2010 12:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Only diff is, Spikes plays well in coverage

AND can freaking tackle. Mays is explosive but cant wrap up to save his life. He missed so many tackles in the back field, it wasn’t even funny.

spikes got slow lol

did he gain weight or something

Carlos Dunlap, 6'6", 277 and ran a 4.63! That is really quick for a big man!

So you think you are so important that no one can replace you? Put your finger in a bucket of water and pull it out. Does it leave a hole? Nope, just some ripples that eventually calm themselves!

yes it is!

Something's amiss with Spikes

I’d be very surprised if he’s not injured or something. He isn’t known for being a burner at middle linebacker, but he plays a lot faster than, say, Rey Maualuga did, and Rey ran 4.8 IIRC. I guess it’s also possible that he doesn’t have a fast self-start, which is something I’ve always contended the NFL needed to eliminate, because players should be started by signal instead of their own whims.

Anyway, it’s a disappointing time for Spikes, but I think he has to be battling some kind of hammy or quad issue or something like that.

Everyone just needs to drop Spikes off their radar...

We all know how important speed is in the NFL. Haven’t we spent enough years with slow players on the roster? I know speed isn’t everything, but on D it’s critical for flow to the ball whether it’s in the air or a run. BTW I don’t like the idea of drafting anyone outside of Linemen who can’t run in the 4.5’s or better. How does a 4.5 corner defend a 4.3 receiver? It’s just insane to think you can!

Lack of speed hasn't been the primary problem, IMO

I think it’s been more a matter of bad tackling and bad execution.

4.5 or better is a somewhat unrealistic standard for middle linebackers. Sure, there are a few who run 4.5, but they are few and far between. To give you an idea, Ray Lewis was considered a speedy, undersized middle linebacker, and he ran a 4.53. It’s pretty tough to fill out a roster with nothing but speed guys without sacrificing tackling and execution, which compounds the problem.

As for a 4.5 corner vs. a 4.3 receiver, there’s only a small handful of 4.3 receivers in the league.

This is here steals come in...

..every year there are guys that play great and then they down trade the tape for what they do in shorts and sneakers

by FrankPitts on Mar 17, 2010 12:59 PM CDT reply actions

IMHO

with that slow of a 40 time, I’m thinking he’s going to be this year’s Rey Maualuga and fall to a team with the right supporting cast and be really good.

The Greatest Trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

Dang

I hope Spikes slides to 2b or 3 and we take him there.I think he will be a productive LB in the NFL despite the speed and if he slides we will have so many options at 2a and could still get a good LB later on. Could you imagine Berry in the first Cody or Tate at 2a then Spikes at 2b. :) Makes me smile!

by tomahawk44 on Mar 17, 2010 1:15 PM CDT reply actions

If anything, we should rank Spikes higher now...

…due to intelligence.

He obviously didn’t want to become a raider :p Sign him up!

Seriously, I think he gets a bad rap and will be good. I still think Spoon will end up DROY though

Nice :)

and probably true this will put him in the wheelhouse of the playoff caliber teams

LOVE that he was invited

We’ll see if he shows. With the draft spread over 3 days, he could literally be hanging through 2 complete telecasts without getting drafted. Ahhh, the possibilities. BTW, ESPN is praying he accepts the invite. They’ll have a Tebow cam at all times, guaranteed.

by kcsno56 on Mar 17, 2010 2:35 PM CDT up reply actions

The funny thing is that he'll make the best of it and probably end up chatting with analysts and other members of the media.

Hate all you want, he’s likely to make the draft more entertaining.

This isn’t an annoucement that he’s accepted. Sorry for the premature tebow-hating. You’ll get more when it’s confirmed.

Remember how Flowers dropped in the draft because of his 4o time?

I would shit a brick if we got Spikes in the 3rd or 4th.

Aaron Hernandez

Is an amazing TE. He reminds me of Tony so much. I’ve seen him go so high up to make catches. Great at the shuffle pass. and a devastating blocker.

Great story….. Hernandez 1st practice. Tebow passes to him and Hernandez catches the pass amd is shoved oob by a safety. Tebow sprints down to him and gets in his face. “Aaron, you’re a tight end! Run that guy over!” I’ve never seen him go oob since.
