Chief's selection in the BCC Mock Draft
Hey guys
Since the Jags rep from your site came over asking for some advice, I figured I would share with you the pick we made. It was Russell Okung, LT, Oklahoma St. Bradford, McCoy, Suh, and Berry were off the board at that point.
The explanation that was given was
The Branden Albert experiment hasn't worked out at left tackle. The Chiefs have a lot invested in hopeful franchise QB Matt Cassel and it'll be for not if he doesn't have any protection. After passing up on Eugene Monroe last year, the Chiefs get their LT of the future this year.
Not sure how you guys feel about Okung, but I've always felt you need to make sure you're franchise QB needs to make sure he won't be eating turf before anything else.

Booo!
Brandon Albert experiment? It has not failed. Go watch how he handled Elvis. I would hate this pick.No offense.
I don't like the logic
But I am fine with the pick.
It’s a very safe pick, which may be Pioli’s style.
I don’t think this is a reflection of Albert as it is you can’t have too many good offensive linemen…

I agree it is a safe pick
Im just not looking to make a safe pick I guess I want someone whos going to make a big impact right away…

Safe pick
Personally like the pick, but does not seem like a Pioli move.

Yes thanks for stopping by Jonathan
didnt mean to sound like I was attacking your pick atleast you didnt go Berry like everyone else haha
He was off the board, but I would've taken Okung either way.
No offense taken.

Hehehehehe.... he said experiment
The man gave up ZERO sacks in the last six games of the season. I’d say he’s ready for prime time.

thanks for the info ... I agree with Joel (above) the logic isn't quite accurate (Albert is far from BAD at LT)
… but I’d never argue with taking a player like Okung … especially with the people you had gone already out of the picture

I dont like the Okung pick but can see some merit in it being a "safe" pick.
The only problem I see to this theory is where do you move Albert if you make this safe pick? With the recent signings, development players we have and potential draft picks next month it seems to me like the interior line would be too “busy” to add Albert to the mix. You could move him to RT I guess but I just dont see that either. Personally if Bradford, Suh, McCoy and Berry are off the board I think Haden will be the pick and more ideally a trade down in the works.

Thanks for the imput Jonathan and for your help and information for our own mockdraft.

Huh??? Generic I usually like your picks, but Haden?
and his 4.6 / 40yd? No thanks, we should pass on him. I’ve seen enough guys blow pass our Def. Backs last season, and to see a TE out run Haden would be the last straw for me.
But if Haden slips into the 2nd round like Flowers did then we’re talkin! Also, Flowers ran his 40 in the 4.55’s with his fastest on his pro-day being in the 4.4’s.
Bruce Campbell @ 6-6 314lbs ran his 40 just 2/10’s (4.85) of second slower than Haden, and we all know that Oakland needs an Off. lineman so Campbell should be Oakland’s choice, because Crazy Al is in love with speed.

Game speed is more important than a 40 time with no pads that being said.
Haden had a back sprain at the Combine./
It could just be damage control by Haden’s father but if you watch the tape Haden is very good. He isn’t an elite interception CB but he is an elite coverage CB. He will come in and shut down his half of the field but probably won’t pick off many passes. Lots of passes defended though.
The first 3 picks of the draft will be defense. Pioli loves him some defense.

There's no question about Haden's coverage ability, the guy is a stud....
The question that needs to be answered is,
1) Was it the scheme that they ran in Florida that protected him?
2) How deep did he play off the WR when he was man up?
3). How often did Florida leave him on an Island?
Because if he can’t run with the stallions he’s gonna be just another show pony, just my opinion.

Flowers combine 40 sucked too and was the major reason he slipped to round two.
As of this morning though…

I dont think we have to worry much about Hadens speed.

Alot will happen yet between now and draft day.
So i’m sure my picks wont really be set until the day before.

Not trying to discredit your statements Generic... I liked Haden also
I thought Haden would have been a safe pick with the 5th pick, until he ran the 4.6
That scared me off a bit about him. I thought Haden and Flowers would have been a perfect tandem, but even Flowers was able to put a good 40 time in his pro-day. I think Flowers fastest time in his pro-day was a 4.49, his slowest was a 4.55.
I think the height factor also affected Flowers being selected in the second round, just in my humble opinion.

didn't he just re-run his forty's
4.29

You sure that the 4.29 was at 40 yards and not 30 yds?
