Unsolving the #5 Pick - Game of Clue

I think as a Chiefs fan our number one question that we all have on our mind is:  Who will the Kansas City Chiefs draft at #5?

Moves throughout the last couple weeks and weeks to come could help us take a look at our present before D-Day.  In this fanpost, I want AP members to put the pieces together to come up with a logical pick for the Kansas City Chiefs at #5.

Please put into consideration the following:

1.  Transactions made my Kansas City

2.  Areas of weakness on the team

3.  Transactions made by other Teams

4.  Expert analysis on the Kansas City Chiefs (NFL Network, ESPN, SI, etc.)

5.  Credible leaks of informatoin

PLEASE AVOID RUMORS UNLESS FROM A CREDIBLE SOURCE!

After the jump, I will add my clues to whom I think the Chiefs will draft and why I believe that pick will be Eric Berry...

Star-divide

Clues:

Poor DB coverage:  21st Pass Defense

Good Running Game:  Believe it our not, KC was the 11th best Rushing team and that's hindered b/c of LJ's 2.7 average for the first half of the season!

Lions bring in Russell Okung for a Visit

Lions sign two DTs

Suh-nami - Suh falls in Bucs lap

Rams show interest in Bradford - Adam Schefter

Not drafting OLine? Chiefs sign Weigmann

Not drafting OLine?  Chiefs sign Lilja

Giants sign Rolle - Chiefs do not pursue Safety

Mock Drafts picking Berry:  Mel Kiper, Todd McShay, Mike Lombardi

A reach:  Berry and Flowers work out together

Those are just a few quick clues before I head out... but if you have more, please add to the list if it's a clue to why the Chiefs will draft Berry OR if you have clues that lead to KC drafting a different player.

man, you really like to reach, don't you?

say, how about a nice tour of Area 51? perhaps a little Trilateral Commission action?

like these events (or POSSIBLE events that haven’t even happened yet) … or the CLUES (which can also be called WISHFUL THINKING and/or OPINION) are 100% fact based?

so Pioli’s sent you inside information and you know for a fact this is gonna happen? I sure don’t … in fact, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Pioli took someone that made everyone’s head spin off (and I’d probably applaud him if he did)

all I can say is …

Boy, Stop!

It's always fun to try and read the tea leaves...

Although Peter King doesn’t think the Chiefs will draft Berry or any safety that high. At this point we are about a month away from the draft and I think a lot can still change between now and then. I think it will be very fluid at the top of the draft. If the Lions sign Hargrove (DT – NO), then they have less of a need for a DT and taking Okung at #2 to protect Stafford would make a lot of sense. Conventional wisdom has the Rams taking Bradford but with Spags being a Defensive coach he might find it too hard to pass up on Suh especially if he thinks he could get Colt McCoy in the second round (which should happen). I think Gerald McCoy would make more sense for Tampa and their style of D. Bradford would not drop past Shanny in D.C. at #4 and that brings us to the Chiefs which would leave us with anybody really and with Pioli drafting, he might even take Cody at #5.

So that brings us back to where we started — We don’t have a clue?

Well said

You can always read into who talked with who, and what the “experts” say, but the truth is that we don’t have a clue. Even with our moves in FA we still have a lot of needs so it’s hard to tell what the Chiefs brass are thinking.

WesternChief, you are SO right ... great analysis, well said, and yes ...

we ARE clueless, all of us!

Flowers was also working out with Burnett I believe it was.

Are all them working out in Florida at Athletes Performance maybe.

i liked that swimcoach

Either way whomever we get at #5 is going to be awesome!

Regardless of who the Chiefs pick at #5 overall, Whitlock will call it the worst pick in the history of the Chiefs. Heres to hoping that #5 pick runs Whitlock out of town.....

The only thing that makes me think Pioli will go after Berry

Is the fact that he let Mike Brown walk and hasn’t even sniffed at any of the FA safeties. Granted, that doesn’t tell us a whole lot other than Pioli is likely thinking of drafting at least one safety. That doesn’t guarantee Berry, but it does make the most sense.

Everything else is just garbage, IMO. Mock drafts are just massive guessing games and no one can ever take much stock in those. Trying to link existing players working out with draft prospects isn’t likely to get you anywhere either.

Truth be told, there’s no telling who Pioli is going to pick or what he is going to do. He’s definitely in a better position to take the best player available as opposed to last year, but you never know. I think he’s going to pick Berry, but I’m letting my preferences speak for me.

2/3 of the Earth is covered by water. The rest is covered by Eric Berry.

I agree RNG

no Sharper visit, no Rolle visit, it leads me to believe its going to Berry.

i hope we do get berry man..

it makes sense to me.. but im startin to think we’re gonna trade out of the spot.. but there is still a lot of time left between now and the draft. i’m hopin to see reports soon of the chiefs having dinner with him

We can

go with Berry, then OLB, then CB, then ILB. Those are the biggest needs

by 102win on Mar 16, 2010 7:58 PM CDT reply actions

I hope for everyone we get Berry...

but Pioli does stuff that you wouldnt expect.
