No Word On Chiefs Visit With Ryan Lilja
Well, Kansas Citians sure like a homegrown player.
In the past 24 hours, I've received quite a few emails from folks wondering what the status of Ryan Lilja's visit with the Chiefs is or whether there's any sort of update.
So here's your update:
There is no update.
The Chiefs were reportedly hosting Lilja on Monday and we've heard nothing about it.
My hunch says the longer we wait the less likely it is he's a Chief. Lilja has other suitors -- rumored to be Seattle and Houston -- and if we're not hearing anything yet, there's a good chance he's making the other visits. And if he's making the other visits, he's probably wondering if he can get more money.
That's just a hunch, though.

I hope your hunch is wrong
we could really use this guy. I really hope it wouldnt come down to money, because he is a hometown guy and we would love to see him here.
Regardless of who the Chiefs pick at #5 overall, Whitlock will call it the worst pick in the history of the Chiefs. Heres to hoping that #5 pick runs Whitlock out of town.....
Depends on how long the silence goes =)

Well we thought Jones might of escaped but..
to find out he was in KC more than one day.. Maybe thats the case hear and they are hammering out a deal
blame Jon Bon Jovi
Chiefs leadership was busy last night
* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* keep Albert at LT, upgrade the positions that NEED upgrading.C, RG, NT, S, LB

I think the longer the better
You come to town. You talk. if it’s a fit you negotiate a deal.
hopefully that is what they are doing
hammering out his physical and some incentive laden deal

Add the Redskins...
As the 4th potential suitor.
They have shown that they take time with these deals...
so I wouldn’t be too concerned at this point.
It was also recently reported that Thomas Jones went back to the Jets and gave them the chance to match the Chiefs’ offer. Makes me question their thinking or I don’t want to think of the alternative.
everybody dont forget
he had a season ending knee injury in 2008. Granted it looks like he was fully recovered from it last season starting every game, i bet our medical staff is thoroughly evaluating him. I imagine he has to travel with his medical records and several calls will be made between our medical staff and theirs.

I thought if a deal was going to get signed, it'd be today
I just hope he doesn’t get out of town today.
I’m sure he’s going to have to go through an extensive physical, and I would guess that’s happening today.
what? Seriously?
how are they greedy? They have a talent/skill that someone is willing to pay them a lot for. These players have a very short time to maximize their earnings, and they get as much as possible.
You’re only fooling yourself if you say you woudn’t take the bigger contract if it was available. Hell, if one of my competitors walked in here today, offered a 20% raise, and pretty much the same benefits and hours I’d get up and walk out the door right now.
It has nothing to do with being greedy. If you think these players are greedy, then you have never seen true greed. Greed destroys things, people, and organizations. You want to see true greed read up about Enron, Woldcom, and google search Ponzi Scheme. Then you’ll realize that these players and owners are just doing what any one of us would do in their shoes.

Glad others feel this way
The average NFL player is on the street after about three years. They play for non-guaranteed contracts & can be dropped on a moments notice. They also expose themselves to real long-term injury risk on the field.
Oh, and they are also the main reason the NFL is worth Billions.

This year will be better
The people that complain
Would always be the first to jump at a big salary if they got the opportunity.
Lilja has every right to base his decision completely on who gives him the best offer, he doesn’t owe it to us or anyone else to not do what is in his best interests or the interest of his family.
Now, its possible that he would decide that it is in his best interest to move home at a slightly lower salary, but if he doesn’t, that doesn’t make him ‘greedy.’ Far from it.
People just see the huge salaries & think they should be satisfied
They don’t consider the facts that the money is only there for a few years, and it will evaporate almost immediately after one major injury. The players pay taxes in the highest tax bracket for those years (in addition to state taxes in every state that they play a game in), and they undoubtedly are leaned on by family & friends for loans & financial help. It’s no surprise that more than 80% of NFL players are broke 5 years after they are done playing.

This year will be better
Lilja would be stupid not to explore all his options. In the end I think he will be a Chief.
Fact. Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.
I'd like to see them sign Lilja..
…I wouldn’t mind seeing a bigger guy like Eric Olsen of ND or Shawn Lauvao of Arz st either.
