Which LSU Player Will The Chiefs Take In The First Round?

If you're a Kansas City Chiefs fan then you know this strange but true fact: The Chiefs have taken a LSU Tiger in the first round of the last three NFL drafts.

2007 - WR Dwayne Bowe

2008 - DT Glenn Dorsey

2009 - DT Tyson Jackson

Three players, three drafts, one school...never been done before.

Who will it be this time?

Star-divide

Unless the Chiefs trade down from the fifth pick or up from the second round, it likely won't be anyone.

There are a couple of candidates for the first round though a couple might be a stretch.

WR Brandon LaFell (6'3", 206 pounds) -- Good size with lots of production over the last two years despite no superstar quarterback.

OT Ciron Black (6'5", 322 pounds) -- Plays a premium position and has started more consecutive games than anyone else in LSU history.

S Chad Jones (6'3", 221 pounds) -- He's coming out a year early and with good numbers could hop into the tail end of the first round.

So, who will it be?

what NT is on LSU?

we will get him, even if he hasnt declared for the draft yet, Pioli will make him be on our team!

Regardless of who the Chiefs pick at #5 overall, Whitlock will call it the worst pick in the history of the Chiefs. Heres to hoping that #5 pick runs Whitlock out of town.....

LOL

that Ciron Black fella looks to have some upside … definitely would help the OLine, and the guy has NO history of injuries (Haley loves that kind of player) … now, I doubt it WILL happen, but wow … if it DID happen the Chiefs would be FAMOUS (for one thing, anyway)

It's a joke man.

Berry’s been a highly anticipated draft prospect all year. I’m just teasing because Berry-mania didn’t really erupt until recently.

And BTW, Curry exploded into the top 10 because of his phenomenal combine workout. Berry has been a solid top 5 for months.

by Red N Gold Beast on Mar 15, 2010 4:23 PM CDT up reply actions

Yep, whispers abounded about Berry starting his freshman season

He’s definitely one five-star recruit who panned out the way Rivals thought he would. He was the third-highest-rated recruit in the nation…behind Jimmy Clausen and Joe McKnight!

Top ten of the 2007 class:

1. Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame – you all know the story. I’m not terribly impressed by him, but he does have some talent.
2. Joe McKnight, RB, USC – Speedy little guy never became the Reggie Bush II he was supposed to be. His talent is obvious, but Carroll has platooned his RBs since the days White and Bush graduated.
3. Eric Berry, DB, Tennessee – again, you know the story. Star safety makes good.
4. Ryan Mallett, QB, Arkansas – I love his arm. IMO he’s the best pure pocket passer on the horizon, and possibly the best in the better part of a decade.
5. Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida – he’s a beast, but apparently unable to avoid passing out drunk at traffic lights.
6. Everson Griffen, DE, USC – very physically gifted, even for a USC player, but he didn’t quite wow the world. Could be a great payoff player with good coaching.
7. Marv Austin, DT, UNC – spurned the NFL to return for his senior year. Probably wise, because he’ll probably be the #1 DT prospect in 2011, instead of fighting with Suh and McCoy for the top spot this year.
8. Ronald Johnson, WR, USC – didn’t really pan out that well, partially because of injuries, and has since transferred, I believe to Cincinnati. Will be in the 2011 or 2010 draft.
9. Torrey Davis, DT, Florida – kicked off the Florida team, transferred to Jacksonville St. His talent is terrific, but one has to be a pretty bad apple to get kicked off the team by Urban Meyer, whose standards for character are as low as they come.
10. Josh Oglesby, OT, Wisconsin – solid lineman, but spent some time injured in 2009 as a redshirt sophomore. He has the potential to rocket up the charts a year or two from now.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on the top ten. 2007 was one of those amazing years when the Rivals 100 actually had a top ten that panned out.

Berry-mania started to begin

when it began to look like he might actually be available at pick 5. As you stated with Curry, he shot up the boards. Berry has been up there all along. Berry was the consensus #1 defensive player available prior to the 2009 season. It took a phenomenal year by Suh and some major man-crushes on Gerald McCoy to force Berry to “drop” from the #1 spot.

The studs from the 2010 draft class will be: DT Ndamukong Suh, S Eric Berry, RB C.J. Spiller, RB Jahvid Best, WR Arrelious Benn, WR Golden Tate, WR Mardy Gilyard, OT Charles Brown, CB Kyle Wilson and S Chad Jones

by Chiefsfan85 on Mar 15, 2010 3:54 PM CDT reply actions

None of the LSU players warrant a 1st rounder this year but

we could always add another brandon to the roster and get LaFell in the 2nd maybe 3rd?? Al Woods would be a good fit for NT and is a late rounder at best or could go undrafted so he might be worth looking at…and Chad Jones next 2 Eric Berry would be AWESOME plus Flowers and Carr at CB the secondary would be great. I’m trying not to think of it like that though because I know a lot of people had their hopes up last year for Curry and got crushed on draft day (including me) so Im trying to not get my hopes up because with this front office nobody publicly knows very much if any at all about their draft interests. Im going to be dissapointed though if the Chiefs use the 5th overall pick on Bulaga. Nothing against him but the defense has been a problem for us chiefs fans for over a decade now (well ever since Derrick Thomas passed) and WE WANT DEFENSE. I like Jerrad Page but I still have the images of him and Pollard consistently getting burned in pass coverage and run support. I KNOW OTHERS CAN STILL SEE IT TOO. If it aint Berry there better be a damn good reason because Chiefs fans are some of the greatest and faithful passionate sports fans period and we dont like booing and not showing up to games but no one wants to spend $ to go see the team they love get bashed in person when they hear bad things on tv and internet all of the time. I THINK I SPEAK FOR ALL CHIEFS FANS WE WANT QUALITY. WE GIVE YOU THE LOUDEST FANBASE ON EARTH IN AN OPEN STADIUM AND THAT SAYS A LOT. make Arrowhead scary again by building a scary team PLZ

This is the correct answer

Saban recruited so well that even a dumbass like Les Miles stumbled his way into a BCS Championship(with Pelini’s help, obviously).

I read somewhere earlier a “tweet” by a beat reporter for LSU at their Pro Day this week and how there were very few scouts that made the trip, in contrast to when Saban was there and when his recruits were still there, when the Pro Day was “standing room only” because of so many scouts.

I've Gotta Go With AL WOODS.

Likely in the 3rd or 4th, not a first rounder this year from LSU, I don’t think. Likely a project NT, or if he is surprisingly good, a rotational NT. I also would rather get Cody, Price, Cam Thomas, or Odrich from Penn State (not necessarily in that order). I’m sure we will draft a NT, it’s just in what round and what importance Pioli and the gang place on it. I would think it would be a high priority, unless they feel Shaun Smith and Ron Edwards are really the long term answer. That’s why they make the big bucks, and I live in a Manufactured Home (A politically correct term for a trailor).

There once was a man from Nantucket......Nevermind.

probably not any earlier than the 4th round, but he’s very tall (6’4’’ I think) and runs well.
