LaDaianian Tomlinson Gets More Money Than Thomas Jones
Does this contract sound familiar?
LaDainian Tomlinson and Jets reached agreement on a two-year, $5.1 million contract with an escalator that could boost deal to $5.6 million.
The Chiefs signed Thomas Jones to a two-year, $5 million contract also with $500,000 in incentives.
This move by the Jets has me perplexed. If you go by the money (and it's usually right), they value LT more than TJ.
LT's production has declined significantly the last two seasons. TJ's has gone up. In one less year of action, Tomlinson has 600 more carries.
Whatever the Jets motivation is, the reaction of the rest of the league in regards to the value the Chiefs got speaks volumes.

aint no problem
Jones will get more yards and td’s!
Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!
I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

I doubt it
(And that is not a knock on TJ)
NYJ runs more than KC and I can see him splitting carries with Shonn Greene whereas I see JC getting the lions share of the Chief’s carries.

Plus the Jets Oline is the best in the buisness
I can actually see LT going for 1,000 this year

that's generous
cuz he didn’t hit that as a full time starter in San Diego last year
Don’t get the move twisted, Tomlinson is strictly going to be a third down back while Shonne Green and Leon Washington take care of business

Jets run the ball ALL THE TIME whereas San Diego has been Rivers' team for a couple of years now
San Diego is built to throw the ball, Jets are built to run the ball. It’s a good move for the Jets to keep the wear and tear off Shonn Greene. Leon Washington may or may not return healthy

Plus LT can catch the ball.
In that Martyball offense, the HB needs to catch the ball. I suspect LT’s quite a bit more consistent and fluid in that regard. TJ is more of an LJ, except in terms of leadership.
Still doesn't change the fact that he's a third down back
Look at his yards per carry last season 3.3.. Usually when your carries go down a player has a better shot at getting an unfair YPA not the case for Tomlinson, he made the least of all his carries last season.
As far as the catching the ball out of the back field argument goes.. Greene and Washington do that to..

No one said he was a 3rd down back.
I think he’ll get 200-250 carries this year

I did
I’d put money on Tomlinson being a third down back this year with the Jets
The newest addition to the Eric Berry fanclub
I 3rd, 4th, and 5th that
LDT is done.
The only time he’s on the field is 3rd down, and the only time S.D. gave him the ball was inside the 5 yard line.

He's getting paid more than TJ
We can argue who is going to be better, but if the Jets are willing to pay LT that much money, I’d bet they count on him as more than just a 3rd down back.
1. Are they an upgrade over what we already have?
2. Do they have high football IQ?
3. Can they make a difference from Day 1?
4. Do they have a history of leadership?
5. Sign him up.
The Raiders paid Javon Walker zillions of dollars
didn’t make him a better player.. When a player is done he’s done, it doesn’t matter how much you pay him

? didn't say it did
they wont pay him that much money to be a 3rd down back though.

as someone who knows the guy...no way he gets 200-300 carries in my opinion....
LT is a second back on that team…maybe 100-160 carries 8-10 a game…keeping in mind injuries, cold weather…etc.
Scott Pioli will find a way to make NT the biggest offseason priority.
KC Will Trade Derrick Johnson
Uhh
This is clearly an F U deal to Thomas Jones. No other reason it would be 100k higher.
Whatever, thats even better for us, will have TJ even more motivated.
He dropped the dump-off pass right before Sanchez threw the game-losing INT against Indy.
Signing LT seems a clear signal that that sort of thing isn’t tolerated in NY.
what a shame
you run your heart out, make their season, get them in playoff’s and they treat u like dirt.
Knowing hmills....
I doubt it…
Way to pick on the noobs!!!
Go Chiefs!!!!
Is that the same crappy O-line that JC put up 1000+ yards in roughly a half a season of work?
LJ doesn’t have a heart.
Yeah...but we beat the donkeys like a rented mule.

I suppose there is a way to argue that LJ got a raw deal from fans, simply by pointing at his total production…I’d disagree, but there is an argument to be made.
BUT, I think it’s nearly impossible to argue, especially at the end, as fans were turning on him, that LJ ‘ran his heart out.’ Effort and ‘heart’ or lacktherof is one of the prime reasons the city turned on him. Outside of the off the field stuff.

lol L.J ran his heart out to get paid, and that's it.
W.Payton, and B.Sanders ran behind shitty o-lines for years, and didn’t quit or cry about it. I hate L.J he a punk, you know it as well as i do :P
I WANT WHAT YOU ARE SMOKING!!!
That’s the worst comment I have seen yet. LJ ran his heart out? seriously? He took the handoff, waited to be touched by the other team and laid down, blamed his line, left the game, went to the bar, slapped a couple of women, and collected his $4,000,000+ that we never should have given him.
He’ll do the same in DC now that he got his fat paycheck.

... or the fact that the Thomas Jones deal set the bar for running backs
There aren’t many serviceable backs left on the market I’m sure that LT was the top of those left.
Willie Parker was the only other older backs that I can think of… So I don’t see as a slap in the face perse. If it was a couple million more that would be one thing, but we are talking about 100,000 bucks.
Go Chiefs!!!!
calgary have you lost your head
Lt will not get close to 1,000 unless Greene goes down. But with the little extra change they gave Lt that just pissed TJ off and everytime he does hit the field it might be scary.
Good for LT
He’s got a great line to run behind, his career will be extended with the two young backs taking the dirty work, and he’ll rack up some more td’s. I think its a Marcus Allen situation with a better O-line and better RB’s to tandem with.
As for TJ, He won’t have as much success as he did with the Jets, but he’ll do fine here. Sorry to see the Jets were jerks to him, but wasn’t he due a contract bonus? Its just business.
Not to be a picker of nits
but you’ve got his name spelled wrong in the title of the article… one too many a’s – the 3rd a should be dropped
LaDainian
not
LaDaianian
thomas jones
will rush for 800-1000 yards while L T gets 400-600

I wouldn't mind the Chiefs pounding it.
Like the jets did last year, old school football is fun to watch too. The jets would put everyone on the line and tell you they were going to run it down your throat.
Crap
I guess I don’t get to pick a RB for the Jets in our mock for the 2nd round.
If they get Brandon Marshall I won’t get to pick a WR either.
Come on Jets, help a brother out

With the Jets OL
we’ll find out how much gas LT has left. I don’t think he’s a bad back, but he’s like all aging players. Eventually everyone hits their peak. They just don’t want to except it. Unless they’re Brett Favre. Minnesota might as well sign him to a 20 year contract.
Thomas Jones and the Lombardi, DO IT!
Way to light a fire under TJ's ass.
Thanks Jets. Jones in going to be looking to prove someone wrong.

Amen
Am I the only one that is starting to get excited about our offense next year? We land Weis, resign Chambers, add Thomas Jones, I figure we’re one slot WR and one starting interior lineman away from blowing up.

Oh Yeah Baby! Fuel on the fire!
What a slap to the face, makes the full-page ad. worthless as actions don’t their match words. Don’t tell me Thomas Jones isn’t a bit “T” off about LT getting paid more with his prodcution over the last few years. We will see how much that O-line helps and it it was really a lot of TJ. I think you’ll find LT won’t come close to his production. Our Offense should be much improved with a few more pieces.
