Hank Fraley No Longer Visiting Chiefs, Signs With Rams

We heard over the weekend that free agent offensive lineman Hank Fraley was in Missouri but on the other side visiting the St. Louis Rams. His agent, Ralph Cindrich, had said he was planning a Tuesday visit with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fraley, as we said, appears to be capable of playing multiple positions on the offensive line and could be a replacement of sorts for departed free agent Wade Smith.

As it turns out, Fraley won't be visiting with the Chiefs nor will he be signing with them because he agreed to terms with the Rams, his agent said.

It wasn't clear how interested the Chiefs were in his services.

The Chiefs are also bringing in Ryan Lilja on Monday and they've previously said they don't want to pay top dollar for him. So, it's possible that the Fraley visit was being used as leverage by the Chiefs if the Lilja visit turns into contract negotiations.

Lilja! Lilja! Lilja!

Scott Pioli will find a way to make NT the biggest offseason priority.

Yup, get it done Pioli

Signing Lilja would free us up a lot going into the draft. I’m not saying we shouldn’t still draft a couple linemen, but we could focus the first 3-4 picks on other needs.

Meh.

Not real upset, we got Weigs back. Not like Hank would be a long term solution.

Fact. Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.

Joel when is the All AP mock draft?

The first 3 picks of the draft will be defense. Pioli loves him some defense.

Damn

“So, it’s possible that the Fraley visit was being used as leverage by the Chiefs if the Lilja visit turns into contract negotiations.”

I disagree. I saw Fraley as a RG for us that could have been a center (probably backup) down the road after Wiegmann hangs up his cleats. As for Lilja, he is pretty much your archetypal LG and doesn’t really fit on the right side.

Disappointed that Fraley didn’t make the visit to KC. From the surface, it appears the Rams must have given him a pretty good offer, or he felt like a starting role in St. Louis was more guaranteed, whereas here he would have to compete for playing time with Ndukwe and Colin Brown.

Oh well, you can’t win them all. Looking forward to Lilja’s visit. Hopefully he can pass a physical and doesn’t mind playing for cheap.

I am hoping Lilja is able tp as

not trying to sound Douchey but...

Seriously, what have you EVER seen of Lilja that indicates he can ONLY play LG? Also please elaborate on what characteristics define a player to play RG of LG besides preference

by irishking44 on Mar 14, 2010 5:10 PM CDT up reply actions

typically

RG is a little bigger, more of a run blocker
LG is more of a pass protector

Lilja is much better in pass pro than run blocking, or so they say

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* keep Albert at LT, upgrade the positions that NEED upgrading.C, RG, NT, S, LB

by stagdsp on Mar 14, 2010 5:18 PM CDT up reply actions

in that case

waters should probably be our RG since much more stout and seems to have put on a little more in his age

eh its alright

we’re starting to get a lot more bodies on the o-line and i’m sure we’ll draft even more

You're a goddamn quarterback! You know what that means? It's the top spot, kid. It's the guy who takes the fall. It's the guy everybody's looking at first - the leader of a team - who will support you when they understand you. Who will break their ribs and their noses and their necks for you, because they believe. 'Cause you make them believe. That's a quarterback.
