Friday Night Open Thread

Good evening, AP readers. Hope you're doing well tonight. I took it on the chin this week in life in general so I am more than happy to sit back and relax this evening.
For those of you in Austin, SB Nation is sponsoring a kickball game tomorrow to "kick off" South by Southwest. It starts at 10:30 AM and you can meet yours truly if you come by. Let me know in the comments if you can make it.
Info about the event is at Blog Huddle.

is it possible that we are going to move niswanger to guard?
just a thought…I had remembered AP members discussing his move to guard last season
Scott Pioli will find a way to make NT the biggest offseason priority.
KC Will Trade Derrick Johnson
I don't know...
if you ask me Niswanger had peaked in terms of his potential. I don’t even want him as a reserve.

there will be serious competition at camp this year looking at this roster
Scott Pioli will find a way to make NT the biggest offseason priority.
KC Will Trade Derrick Johnson
My only hope on that topic...
is that Haley leaves the competition to camp and pre-season and doesn’t keep tinkering with the starting lineup like he did all year last year. It’s a chemistry killer.
Braccae illae virides cum subucula rosea et tunica Caledonia-quam elenganter concinnatur!
seems to be a different approach this year
I think last year they were evaluating what they had…this year they seem to want to compete for the division while rebuilding…quickly.
Scott Pioli will find a way to make NT the biggest offseason priority.
KC Will Trade Derrick Johnson
I am fine
if the tinkering is money wise small.
The players make it happen and all the guys we seem to look at are TEAM players, else they are not here.

I just hope...
we can find enough stop-gap plug ins so we can build our line with our mid round picks. Guys that can sit for a year and be able to start the next. If you look at recent Superbowl winners their lines have been built around mid-round round picks. Steelers, Giants, and Saints.

I would not be shocked if Rudy is still a starter This year.
The guys we are bringing in are a little long in the tooth. Jeez; CW is 37 years old. I’m not that fired up about any of our OL signings. They will be good depth, but I’d wager that not one of them is a starter, barring injuries.
Friday night...
All I can say is I am glad friday evening is here.
For a Chiefs opinion: You know I was all for the TJ and Chambers signing. Not sure bout Weigmann (sp?)…At first I was like alright!….but I am just a little concerned that we are signing people to sign them. I am all about competition at training camp. Before I get labeled as the sky is falling. I am curious about the draft…and how that plays out. I am trying to reserve judgement till about the middle of June.
Hows everyone doing tonight?
I have a feeling that 2010 will be a defining year for the Kansas City Chiefs. Do we become the 2001 Patriots or footballs version of the royals??

Pioli isn't the kind of GM that's going to sign a guy just to sign them.
He’s targeting value guys that have a history of being team players and good locker room influences. Right now he’s bringing guys in that will either start and stop gap a weak position for us until we can draft a replacement, or he’s adding veteran depth to the roster.
He’s not after just anyone. If that was the case he’d have Terrel Owens in here already. That guy is going to be a bargain buy for someone… if they think they can deal with the headache. Definitely not a “right 53” kind of guy and thus isn’t going to be signed.

agreed
The guys we’ve signed this week are strong enough to start somewhere in the league if they weren’t with us. Makes me excited to see who on the roster or who we pick up in the draft can beat them out for a starting position. They will only make the team better by their presence at camp.

I’ll have to check my AP news around/after midnight tomorrow. Up and leaving around 545 am to head out for our last competition of the year.
Hope we sign Andra Davis. Would be a nice pick up and mentor. Anyone know if he’s scheduled to visit with us or anyone else for that matter or if he’s talked with any other teams?

Show Choir Competition
I don’t know if you know what it is or heard of it. Basically, singing and dancing. Yea I know, but it’s a whole hell of a lot tougher than you’d think. There is a very good show choir group in Missouri, not sure of location compared to KC but it’s in Troy Missouri (Express as they are caleld), they have an excellent group.
We are from Davenport Iowa and we go by “Northside Establishment”. I’d say we’re pretty good, had a crazy weekend last year and managed to win. Going tomorrow to Cedar Rapids Washington.
But it’s a big midwest thing. Lot of people think it’s weird but it’s really fun. One thing I love is our school sucks at sports and really good in the musical arts and such, and the sports people love making fun of us, but we laugh at them, because we bring home the wins and trophies, they bring home the losses and come empty handed.

Yep
That’s pretty insane. On big discussion days our guys do a real good job of tieing off open threads at about 500 to 600 comments each so they don’t slow down in everyone’s browsers. On a game day we’ll have four or five open threads. They do a great job of it.
I have to say I am a huge fan of the open threads. I wish we did more of them here. The fellas tend to get rowdy though and it upsets quite a few of the other members. Lol. Not for everybody I guess. I’ll definitely come by and play.

Haha yea.
in particular we are talking open threads. They normally are fanposts or Fanshots so that keeps it off the front page. We try to tie off around 1,500 or 2,000 for sure when everyones browsers are slowing down (most peoples). Basically we make a new thread whenever someone complains.
On game days we average 4 or 5 threads as well no matter what game or week it is. For those threads we try and make a new one around 5 or 6 hundred because when they are coming that fast it doesn’t take much to slow the browser down.

So you guys have any questions about the Colts blog or anything?

I do, well about the colts
What was up with the surgery Manning had at the end of the year, heard when it happened but didn’t really follow up on it
We know nothing. We were told it wasn't serious and I believe that since he was playing before and his neck being sore wasn't a hinderance

yea he was hurt much of the year and didn't play his best but I think he still has good years in him.

Things are going pretty good here right now.
I think (at least I am) like I am at the campfire looking into the fire and seeing some good things coming for the Chiefs. Very peaceful moment.

How big a loss is Lilja to the Colts fans?
Braccae illae virides cum subucula rosea et tunica Caledonia-quam elenganter concinnatur!
I can say we were very shocked and he def. wasn't the lineman we wanted released. We knew we were going to need OL this draft and his release made it a certainty.
I def. Think we need to find a guy who will come in and produce for us right away whether it is though the draft or FA. Im hopeing for a LT that way we can move CJ to RG and fill to slots with one move.

I know I was shocked
We all feel like he was the one that got away around here. I’d LOVE to get him back in red and gold. Your O-line comment sounds eerily similar to our O-line comments. Draft here, move there… You guys better protect that QB of yours! That is NOT the guy you wanna see go down!
Braccae illae virides cum subucula rosea et tunica Caledonia-quam elenganter concinnatur!
well our O line isn't so bad we can't protect the QB though.
anyway what is your thoughts on Allenman?? I really no nothing about him but hope he can at least compete with some of our O-line along with us signing Terry today.

I liked Alleman
but this being Haley and Pioli’s first year, they tinkered with the lineup all year long. I don’t think they ever gave Alleman a fair chance. I wanted to see him get some real time at RT and C. He played a little bit at RG and RT but nothing much to speak of. He did pretty well the year before in Miami. I was real disappointed that we didn’t give him much of a chance.

Might have been the ZB scheme
we got him when we thought we were going to drive block.
Then changed the scheme

I dunno bout that
We fired Chan Gailey two weeks before the season started. I thought we picked up Alleman and Ndukwe one week later. Can anyone correct me on that? The move to ZB came in with Chan’s ouster IMO.

I got one for you Angels...
What’s the skinny on Hank Baskett. He’s from our local U. – and I hadn’t followed him since he left Philly other than seeing that on-side kick bounce off him in the AFC Championship game. Was the Indy press hard on him and do you know if he will remain a Colt this year?

I have a question Angles
What’s the story behind this?

What the world needs is more geniuses with humility, there are so few of us left.
Wow you went way back and found that lol. That is the story behind why we joke around about us fans being fat and lazy.
Lets just say BBS hates the guy to death and they go back and fourth. Most fans don’t care for it but it won’t ever end. THere are more recent ones dealing with that blog also.

I'd seen KSK's celebration after the Colts loss in the superbowl and I was curious where all the hatred for Stampede Blue came from
Now I know, thanks

part of the time.
However many times one of us will make a Open thread in a fanpost or fanshot and we will all go there. We also will creat Basketball threads (college normally and especially right now) And we will talk basketball but it just becomes our open thread which is what it is suppose to be. We also during college football have threads and i was the creator of most of those this year.

Sweeeet!!
Have nor checked AP in like 10hrs….and I miss that we now have a legitimate starting Center!!! Yipeeeeeee!!! Love that!!
Also might be getting Lilja and or Fraley!!! I am so excited!!! Way to go PIOLI!!!
With a good draft….McClain…..OR Berry. I will not be able to wait for the season to start.
This will be the most excited I have been for the Chiefs since Herm and Carl packed up!!

still I think you draft a C cause this guy probably won't be the guy for more than a year or two. Isn't he the guy that is quite up there in age?
Co-Leader of yearly 7 round live mock draft at MtD

Yeah
He’s getting up there. I still think we look at C in R3 or R4.
Braccae illae virides cum subucula rosea et tunica Caledonia-quam elenganter concinnatur!
Might be older
But made the pro bowl last year. I would say he still has 2-3 years left to start. Unless decides to retire early.
We could get a good Center late in the draft.
Atleast first two picks defense….then oline, wr, return guy, maybe a te, and then BPA.
Looking good guys!!
