Chiefs Visiting With Ryan Lilja On Monday

Had enough offensive line news today? I hope not.

According to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network, the Kansas City Chiefs have a visit scheduled with free agent guard Ryan Lilja, who was cut from the Indianapolis Colts this week.

Per La Canfora, the visit is scheduled for Monday.

Star-divide

According to a report from 810 WHB, the Chiefs contacted Lilja earlier in the week but told him they didn't want to pay high dollar.

Lilja has been dubbed "the one that got away" by a few folks in Kansas City. He grew up in the Kansas City area attending Shawnee Mission Northwest high school and then Kansas State.

He came to the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2004 and, as the story goes, the Chiefs tried to pass him through waivers to add him to the practice squad but Bill Polian and Co. saw what was going on and snagged him.

Lilja is just 28 years old and has five years of starting experience with the Colts.

He failed his physical with the Colts and they also said they planned on going bigger on the offensive line. He's about 6'2", 290 pounds which should fit in well with the Chiefs, who prefer smaller offensive linemen.

With all the help Pioli is ordering up for our interior OLine, it looks like Branden Albert will stay at LT and we’ll be addressing defense in the draft.

I dont know if Pioli will take a safety this high

He took Tyson at 3 last year because of positional value. Safety has never been regarded that highly on positional value and this class is fairly deep. I honestly see us taking a Myron Rolle in the second instead.

by Sudden on Mar 12, 2010 5:23 PM CST up reply actions

jackson wasnt positional value...

He was NEED

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* keep Albert at LT, upgrade the positions that NEED upgrading.C, RG, NT, S, LB

I think thats pretty high for Myron Rolle

He is a sharp kid, and a hard worker. But I dont think he goes that high. I do want us to get him, because I agree with the importance of intellegence on the field.

carr+berry+rolle+flowers= nasty secondary

On top of that, I beleive our pass rush will improve just based on getting smith at NT, and dorsey and jackson being a year farther along on the line.

but it wouldnt be Romeo’s preference. The 1-tech is essentially an UT, which would make us a 3-4U team, and Romeo is more base 3-4 with a true 0-tech in his career so far.

He must be curled up in ball with all this stupid FA action. j/k I’m not sure I understand Fraley and Weigmann and Lilja, but they may only pick 2 of the 3. It seems like a lot of age to add, but they will probably backfill with draft picks.

I really like the fact that this action seems to have taken the pressure off of drafting for need. Now we can go by the chalk a little more, so that should make for a pretty fine draft.
