Chiefs Visiting With Ryan Lilja On Monday
Had enough offensive line news today? I hope not.
According to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network, the Kansas City Chiefs have a visit scheduled with free agent guard Ryan Lilja, who was cut from the Indianapolis Colts this week.
Per La Canfora, the visit is scheduled for Monday.
According to a report from 810 WHB, the Chiefs contacted Lilja earlier in the week but told him they didn't want to pay high dollar.
Lilja has been dubbed "the one that got away" by a few folks in Kansas City. He grew up in the Kansas City area attending Shawnee Mission Northwest high school and then Kansas State.
He came to the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2004 and, as the story goes, the Chiefs tried to pass him through waivers to add him to the practice squad but Bill Polian and Co. saw what was going on and snagged him.
Lilja is just 28 years old and has five years of starting experience with the Colts.
He failed his physical with the Colts and they also said they planned on going bigger on the offensive line. He's about 6'2", 290 pounds which should fit in well with the Chiefs, who prefer smaller offensive linemen.

I think Pioli is getting him some presents today.
For justice we must go to Don Pioli
I'm just glad LJ didnt go to the Raiders.

yeah, but at least the over 30 signings seem very smart, short term etc...
I would be fine with a 3-4 year deal for lilja worth around 8 mil

Oh I agree. It's just nice to see a FA o-lineman that is under 30.

In Pioli we trust
I think I just had a Piolgasm
Haley told the offense to run it again. When someone said the defense already knows the play he responded, "So what, make it work."

Yep
I’d like berry in the first, golden tate at 2a and a NT at 2b

No
i think the WR class is deeper. Nab a NT with 2a then go with WR next.
Yes, but no.
True, but I don’t think we can pass on Tate. He’s got too much potential and he’ll fit right in here under Haley and former HC Weis

Yup if Tate is there at 2a he is our pick.
I wouldn’t be suprised if we moved back up into the late first just to grab Tate.
Don't blame me, I voted for content of character.
I don't think Pioli will move back into first.
If Tate is gone in 1st round, he’s gone. He’ll find someone else to take. He’s all about adding picks not so much subtracting picks.

but we have 3 5ths, we could easily package one of those with one of our 2nds (hopefully 2b).

Better keep what we got and get the best value for them.

This Pioli guy seems like he knows what he’s doing. The Interior OL sucks, so he’s trying to fix it- check. We need a short yardage RB- check. we need WR depth, check. we need to resign chambers- check. I think he gets to keep his job for another year.
we don't need a short yardage RB; we needed a second productive back- check
any NFL RB can get 1 yard most of the time, and we’ve got like four of them
I'd Larry Johnson in my pants if we signed Lilja

I think it's already been a nice start...
It’s going to be tough waiting until Monday to see what happens with Lilja.
Hope Davis is in by then as well.
i hope we can bring him in
I still think we draft at o lineman though even if we get lilja, but this might allow us to hold of until round 3. I’d like to see us get some sort of safety, linebacker, NT/TE/WR combo with our first 3 picks.
Chiefs 2010 big board-
Eric Berry
Dez Bryant
Taylor Mays
Rolando McClain
Russel Okung
i don't think pioli usually drafts o line before round 3
and why would you wanna find a replacement for a guy like that that you know is a starter and is 28. this would give us a chance to wait for a couple years
I'd like to see
a NT/Te/WR combo too. Picture Mt Cody’s big ass running a fly pattern

How many fingers am I holding up?
Wait, with Billy Bob it has to be a true/false question. Hey Billy Bob, the man in front of you is holding up some fingers. True or false?

No way.
With all the help Pioli is ordering up for our interior OLine, it looks like Branden Albert will stay at LT and we’ll be addressing defense in the draft.
Ndominating Suh must fall to us. If that happens, we OWN this league.
For justice we must go to Don Pioli
Agreed. I think this means that Pioli won’t ever have to reach for an Offensive lineman in the draft, and the silliness of switching Albert and Waters in now off the table.
Thank god
I was getting sick of hearing all the possible ways that we “should” shuffle our oline around to make room for an unproven rookie.
Don't blame me, I voted for content of character.
I would really be upset if they did that...I just don't see it...Berry is a clear choice right now in my opinion...
and if its not berry…its earl thomas..

I dont know if Pioli will take a safety this high
He took Tyson at 3 last year because of positional value. Safety has never been regarded that highly on positional value and this class is fairly deep. I honestly see us taking a Myron Rolle in the second instead.
For justice we must go to Don Pioli
jackson wasnt positional value...
He was NEED
* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* keep Albert at LT, upgrade the positions that NEED upgrading.C, RG, NT, S, LB
by stagdsp on Mar 12, 2010 5:37 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
you bet
I will be shocked if he doesn’t hold down that spot for the next ten years.
I think thats pretty high for Myron Rolle
He is a sharp kid, and a hard worker. But I dont think he goes that high. I do want us to get him, because I agree with the importance of intellegence on the field.
carr+berry+rolle+flowers= nasty secondary
On top of that, I beleive our pass rush will improve just based on getting smith at NT, and dorsey and jackson being a year farther along on the line.

Question for you Porkchop
Suh and Berry are both on the board at 5.
Do you take Berry over Suh?
For justice we must go to Don Pioli
Thats a hard question
And i think it all depends on how Pioli grades Suh. If Pioli thinks Suh can lock down the NT then hell yeah we take him but if he doesnt then its got to be Berry.
Don't blame me, I voted for content of character.
I agree
Suh would be awesome but if he cant play the nose than he would just be a luxury we cant afford.
I know he could be a revolutionary dominant 1-tech
matter of fact, 1-tech might be his best position on the line. But can he be the conventional 0-tech 2-gap player?
For justice we must go to Don Pioli
Then why couldn't we run a 1 tech system like Dallas does?
Don't blame me, I voted for content of character.
we could
but it wouldnt be Romeo’s preference. The 1-tech is essentially an UT, which would make us a 3-4U team, and Romeo is more base 3-4 with a true 0-tech in his career so far.
For justice we must go to Don Pioli
But Pioli
has came out and said there are different NT’s for different schemes. That says to me that he would be willing to draft a player and then scheme around him.
Don't blame me, I voted for content of character.
now i know i havnt been on here in a while
but what if knock on wood suh and berry are gone at our pick
Check out the gun show over here FIYA POWA
Detroit=WR three consecutive drafts...now the Chiefs=DL three consecutive ???
If Suh there we trade down, and we should get excellent compensation for the move.
Opinions are like A--holes, everyones got one.

In a polite voice....
You must be stoned if you think Suh will be there at 5. He will be gone at 1. TB has no reason not t draft him at 3.

I'm with ya...
I saw the possibility of signing a LT… now I know that it isn’t going to happen.
Go Chiefs!!!!
Send Dorsey to Cuningham to swap 1st picks and a second
If Suh is there, we take him and then pick up another starter in the 2nd Round…

I love how he adds the "trying to revamp the Oline there"
as though a visiting tackle and guard made us think we were trying to improve our defensive backfield.
For justice we must go to Don Pioli
WTF is going on??? Do either Weigman or Fraley play Guard or Tackle?
Fact. Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.
I went to Shawnee Mission Northwest
If he signs, do you think he would get me some season tickets?
nice I’m liking the way this is looking. Now that we have the ST fix and working, on to the next part Dfens look for a Dfens heavy draft., and next we continue by fixing the Ofens. GO BABY GO!!!!
Im all for a D heavy draft
as long as we pick Tate.
Don't blame me, I voted for content of character.
Where's Ups?
He must be curled up in ball with all this stupid FA action. j/k I’m not sure I understand Fraley and Weigmann and Lilja, but they may only pick 2 of the 3. It seems like a lot of age to add, but they will probably backfill with draft picks.
I really like the fact that this action seems to have taken the pressure off of drafting for need. Now we can go by the chalk a little more, so that should make for a pretty fine draft.
My line for 2010
LT Okung or Beluga
LG Waters
C Casey
RG Lilja
RT Albert
He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is
