Broncos Were Interested In New Chiefs Receiver Jerheme Urban
The Kansas City Chiefs agreed to terms with former Arizona Cardinals receiver Jerheme Urban on Thursday and it may have been just in the nick of time.
According to Mike Forman of the Victoria Advocate, he was also drawing interest from the Denver Broncos.
This isn't a huge surprise. There are plenty of connections between the two teams and it's certainly not the first time they've been interested in the same player (Matt Cassel anyone?).
"It's a chance for me to come in and be a veteran presence in the locker room," he said. "I've heard a lot of great things about Chris Chambers. This gives me a chance to be another veteran presence and help turn the program around."
Urban visited the Chiefs on Wednesday and his signing was official by Thursday.
He's been here for only one day and he already may miss the start of the Chiefs offseason program.
Urban's wife is scheduled to give birth to their first child on March 27th, which is about the same time the Chiefs are scheduled to start their offseason workouts.
"As much as coach Haley and coach Weis care about football they're adamant about family first," Urban said. "They said they better not see me before the baby comes."

Nice.
Sounds like camp being at River Falls this year will be making things a bit easier on him and the newly expanded family. Welcome aboard Jerheme.
Sounds like a great guy.
Also sounds like great coaches (we knew that) who understand football, life, and family. Hope Urban has what it takes and succeeds for us

Agreed
I just wish more employers would follow that example.

you know what I just noticed?
The Chiefs have already assigned numbers to all their new players except Thomas Jones… Wonder if they still plan on having a press conference for him
My guess is he hasn't had a chance to talk to Donald Washington yet.
Though by that logic, I don’t know why Urban would be 83 now instead of 85. Guess he’s not attached to it enough to work out the details with O’Connell.
Urban looked like a very good signing to begin with
knowing the Broncos wanted him as well, it looks that much better … ty Joel for the info

Hey Chiefs Fans
Andrew from Revenge of the Birds stopping in. I just wanted to provide a little more info on Urban for you.
While I have a genuine hate for Urban, I’ll try to keep this as unbiased as possible.
Urban has been a very solid #4, possibly #3 option for the Cardinals since he’s been with the team. He’s a very nice guy and has a great work ethic. He impressed the hell out of coaches last offseason and many thought we’d finally get the full potential out of Urban. But that was the problem – he couldn’t translate that production to the regular season. While he’s a tall, fast receiver, he’s not dependable in the hands department and has a fumble problem.
For some reason, the guy has a problem committing turnovers at the worst possible time in games. In our ‘08 wildcard game against the Falcons, he couldn’t catch a perfectly thrown ball and it bounced it into the hands of a Falcon for the INT. This past postseason against the Saints, we had a lot of momentum heading into our 2nd scoring drive. Kurt Warner through another perfect pass to Jerheme Urban in stride, only for him to fumble the ball from a tomahawk hit from behind. At that point, all the momentum shifted to the Saints favor and you know the rest.
I don’t think I or any other Cardinal fan can forgive him for that turnover. Basically, you’re getting a very good possible #3 option, but he’s very untrustworthy with the ball in his hands, so beware. Who knows, maybe the new environment and him reuniting with Todd Haley will help.
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

who do you like better Lance Long or Urban?
And yeah I remember my hit on him in the playoffs :) haha
ty so much for the post ... very ... newsworthy if not particulary uplifting
as much as we whine about guys who drop the ball …

According to profootballreference.com
He has two career fumbles.
Fumbles, dropped passes, tipped passes that result in INTs
Either way when the ball touches his hands it usually ends up somewhere else.
Generally when you’re a 4th string receiver, you won’t touch the ball a lot. So 2 fumbles(not counting the playoffs) still seems high, especially considering the other stuff I listed above.

Revenge of the Birds
not another one
Just another of the many receivers we pick up, that can’t play.

Jerheme = Jeremy?
Sorry for the stupid question, I don’t live in KC and I haven’t heard anybody say the guy’s name out loud yet.
Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.
Me either.
But that would be my guess too. Wierd spelling.
