Around SBN: Are The Orioles Bad Or Unlucky With Their Young Pitching?

Questions and Junk: Random Edition

Scott-pioli-and-todd-haley-2009-nfl-oakland-r4vmtr_medium

via www.exposay.com

It has been a while since I posted anything on this site.  I have been taking it easy this off season just hoping for the best for our Chiefs.  I have been surprised so far and I love some of the moves that the organization has made.  So here like always I have some random questions and fun facts. Have fun!

Questions

1. It is the first round, pick five and you are the new general manager for the Chiefs.  Who is your pick and why?

2. What has been your biggest surprise good or bad so far this off season?

3. How many games will the Chiefs win this coming year?

4. Will the Saints repeat?  Why or why not?

5. Who will throw for more touchdowns this year: Jay Culter or Matt Cassel?

Fun Facts

Todd Haley has 4 daughters.  Good God! Oh! and one son.

In four years Tamba Hali has 27 sacks, 1 safety, and 235 total tackles

Romeo Crennel played at Western Kentucky all 4 years as starter.  Defensive line!

Here goes nothin'...

1. Eric Berry, Safety, University of Tennessee – Because I think his presence will have the greatest immediate and long-term successful impact on the Kansas City Chiefs.
2. Thomas Jones - 2yrs $5M unbelievable!
3. I say 9 - We’ll have an amazing FA, Draft, Training Camp and Pre-season and we have a weaker than lately schedule.
4. Saints do not repeat as NFL Champions - for them it was a one shot deal.
5. Matt Cassel – Because J Cutler sux!!!!

2011 will be our year

1) Berry. nuf said. BPA + big need
2) it took us so freaking long to resign chambers
3) 7 or 8. anything else is either unnacceptable or unrealistic. weak schedule helps
4) no. tough thing to do in this league even with drew brees
5) Cassell. cassel will get sacked a lot less in 2010. and be able to find target. whether we’ll hold onto the ball will make the difference

4)

Jim Kelly did it 4 years in a row!! Too bad it was with the Bills lol

NaNz

1. Berry- He presents the most value at a position of need. Anything else (unless Suh fell here) is a reach or does not fufill a team NEED

2. Tied, Jones listened when I told him that he wouldn’t get this kinda money elsewhere, and McDaniels listened to me when I said “Dude Andra Davis sucks just cut him. Who cares if the coach that made him a 200+ single season tackler is in your division.”

3. 7.. 8 max. We’ve gotten better but the 2011 year is when we’ll shine

4. Nope. I’ll go a bit further and tell you the Ravens will

5. Cassel. Right after we arm him with a rookie WR, Weis’ system operates on short passes which Matt Cassel is best at. Martz’s system operates on destroying careers

4. J-E-T-S JETS

If they play their cards right in the draft and maybe get LT, they are at team set up for a championship

The GREAT WALL will bring it home for UK. 2010 NCAA Champs, Baby..

by UKCfan47 on Mar 12, 2010 7:52 AM CST up reply actions

Your #5 is kinda strange.

I’m not a fan of Martz as a HC, and I think he needs a strong HC to tell him no occasionally. That said, he made Jon F’IN Kitna look good in Detroit. He brought Kurt Warner out of obscurity. You’ll have to give me some examples of careers that he’s destroyed, cuz I just don’t see it.

by etp_stl on Mar 12, 2010 7:53 AM CST up reply actions

1. If a trade out is not possible i select Bryan Bulaga OT Iowa. He has small arms for a LT which is why i start him at RT and leave B. Albert where he is. drafting RT this high is not uncommon and the Rams did it last year with Jason Smith as well as the Bengals with Smith. Teams want bookend tackles and i believe Albert is a very good LT. O Cally would be great depth behind them.

2. That so many fans want a safety drafted in the top 5 in a draft that has very good starting safeties all the way into the 4th round.

3. I’m assuming we get a NT and a center in this draft and with those two upgrades alone i believe we move to an 8 win team.

4. They have all their players back so plausible but i don’t think it’s likely at all.

5. They will both throw 25-30 touchdowns but Cutler will have twice the interceptions of Cassel.

The first 3 picks of the draft will be defense. Pioli loves him some defense.

by ChiefsfanJon on Mar 12, 2010 7:57 AM CST reply actions

The Rams didn't draft a RT.

The Rams drafted a LT and started him at RT to get him experience. He will be their LT this year.

by etp_stl on Mar 12, 2010 8:03 AM CST up reply actions

besides that

Ocally is good at RT, starter material to me at least.

Winning isnt a matter of life and death, its more important than that.

by Pollard49 on Mar 12, 2010 8:22 AM CST up reply actions

Here goes.

1) I’ll go with the crowd and say Berry. All accounts are that he is an exceptional playmaker, like Suh is at his position.
2) Getting Jones and resigning Vrabel. Nothing against Vrabel, but it seems odd for a team trying to develop young.
3) 8 Ws. The team won 4 last year with 8 close losses to beatable teams. They should be able to maintain their 4 and split the 8 if they are really improving. I could see anywhere between 6 & 10.
4) No. I think they caught lightning in a bottle last year. Their defense lived on t.o., and that’s too hard to depend on.
5) Cutler. He might also lead the league in INTs, but Martz will have him flinging the ball. I hope Cassel will have a better year, but I think Charles and Jones will take TDs from Cassel.

by etp_stl on Mar 12, 2010 8:02 AM CST reply actions

I realize reading Pollard's that ....

it may be assumed I meant Jones was a strange signing. I didn’t. I think that was an excellent signing and a pleasant surprise. I’m not against Vrabel. I just thought it was an odd signing given his age and the team’s trend.

we are gonna be on each others post all the time… I see some heated debates comin up quite frequently… haha

I know.

I just re-read mine because of what you posted, and I realized I didn’t say what I wanted. I just wanted to clarify.

by etp_stl on Mar 12, 2010 8:49 AM CST up reply actions

Mine!

1.) Eric Berry. If this kid plays anything like he did in college, than why would you not select him regardless of need value or whatever. This kid plays his heart out EVERY play and determines where the quarterback is going to throw.
2.) Getting Thomas Jones at the price we did. And also resigning Vrabel. But I look at it in positive ways for multiple reasons. TJ can show our younger backs and backs to come how to prepare for games and how to disect film as well as provide a positive role model OFF and ON the field. Same with Vrabel.
3.) I say 9 wins. For some reason I think we are going to sweep our division or at least go 4 of 6, than with our schedule we have a real shot at gettin 5+.
4.) Definitely not. How they beat the Vikings… im still lost. I wont say lucky, but 8 out of 10 they dont make it…
5.) Matt Cassel — simply put, he has better weapons, although I did like Knox last year…

Winning isnt a matter of life and death, its more important than that.

by Pollard49 on Mar 12, 2010 8:31 AM CST reply actions

Hate me if ya have to

1. Jimmy Clausen (not a “man love” thing) just what I believe to be sound reasoning for several reasons. Multiple Superbowls are usually won by teams with QBs “raised in systems”. Weis has the knowledge of and relationship with this kid that no other OC & QB would have, a unique situation in time that would put us 3 steps ahead for the future.
We are going to be playing NFL football in 2-3 years right? Will Cassel? This pick has potential for long term success like few others have ever had.

2. Landing Weis & Romeo, what a mix with all things considered if this isn’t a path for success I don’t know what is. These guys all worked together and STILL have the DESIRE to do it again. Same line of thought as expressed above, familiarity allows folks to hit the ground running while other teams are learning who likes Grey Poupon at the lunch table.

3. I’m going way out and say 10, once this team gets the planets aligned they will kick some ass, big 2nd half of the season.

4. I have serious doubt, everybody deals with success differently. Team chemistry will change due to a couple wanting more credit than they thought they received for their contributions. Human nature at it’s worst usually makes repeats a bigger challenge than the first.

5. Cassel, he’s gonna have better receivers and a hot snot kid waiting in the wings. It could be just the pressure he needs to deliver his best. The guy is good but I believe it will take some pressure for him to really show us his best.

GO CHIEFS!

"It aint what happens it's how you react to it that makes all the difference." I'm sure it was somebody wiser than me that said it first. I coach girls softball and use that line all the time.

I like the Romeo and Weis one, was a nice surprise.

Winning isnt a matter of life and death, its more important than that.

by Pollard49 on Mar 12, 2010 10:16 AM CST up reply actions

It's sound reasoning,

and I wouldn’t be upset by it at all. I don’t think it will happen simply because I think that the Chiefs are happy with where they are at the QB position.

by Ray Brown on Mar 12, 2010 11:28 AM CST up reply actions

I like fun stats too!

So here is mine for the day…4-3 DEs or 3-4 OLBs from the 2006 draft and their career sack totals:

ROUND ONE
Mario Williams- 39.5 sacks
Kamerion Wimbley- 26.5 sacks
Tamba Hali- 27.0 sacks
Manny Lawson- 12.0 sacks
Mathias Kiwanuka- 19.5 sacks

ROUND TWO
Darryl Tapp- 18.0 sacks

ROUND THREE
Frostee Rucker- 2.0 sacks

ROUND FOUR
Victor Adeyanju- 3.0 sacks
Elvis Dumervil- 43.0 sacks
Ray Edwards- 21.5 sacks

ROUND FIVE
Rob Ninkovich- 1.0 sacks
Parys Haralson- 15.5 sacks
Mark Anderson- 21.5 sacks

*there wasnt anyone worth mentioning in rounds 6 or 7

The studs from the 2010 draft class will be: DT Ndamukong Suh, S Eric Berry, RB C.J. Spiller, RB Jahvid Best, WR Arrelious Benn, WR Golden Tate, WR Mardy Gilyard, OT Charles Brown, CB Kyle Wilson and S Chad Jones

by kc_radrh8r on Mar 12, 2010 11:19 AM CST reply actions

From doing this

3 things came to my mind:
1) Holy sh!t Dumveril
2) I’m surprised Tamba is 3rd on the list because it seems like he misses out on far too many sacks (at least one per game)…he’s good but I kind of expected him to be lower on the list
3) If Cleveland ever wants to dump Wimbley, I’m sure he’d like KC because of the Romeo connection and he’s from Wichita, KS

Ok, here's my WISH list:

1. Eric Berry. Because he is awesome.

2. Weis + Crennel + Jones.

3. All of them.

4. No. Because we will win the Super Bowl.

5. Cassel.

My sentiments are likely to be summed up with one of these 2 quotes:

"Shut the f--- up."- Matt Cassel
"WHAT THE F---?!?!"- Todd Haley

by Red N Gold Beast on Mar 12, 2010 12:18 PM CST reply actions

OK, here's my real list:

1. I still want Berry. He’s definitely a top talent and will help to spark this defense. Plus I want a guy that can give us a reason to cheer this year, not just a work horse that secures the line. We can take care of those with the other picks.

2. Weis + Crennel + Jones. Is still true. KC is putting together a surprisingly good staff and roster.

3. I think we’ll win between 8-10 games.

4. No. I just can’t see a repeat for them. Repeats don’t happen often, and I don’t see the Saints as a team that has the tools to dominate again.

5. Cassel. Because I hate Cutler. I hope that cocky ass hole gets hurt.

regarding the picture ...

Doesn’t Haley look more robust than usual, and
Doesn’t Pioli look trimmer?

Hey,did someone photoshop this?

Looks like ....

Pioli’s suckin’ it in, and Haley seems to be doing some kind of pelvic push. That’s a little disturbing in itself.

terrence cody because I forgot the question

Man I’m way too high to remember the questions by the time I find my answer again. I end up scrolling back up and then I stop and glance at other peoples answers, but can’t remember the questions, so the answer don’t make sense. I end up scrolling B A C K up again to look at the questions again so the answers make sense, only to suddenly remember I was answering a question and have a post comment box already started somewhere, but by the time I scroll down and find it well, it starts all over again.

This is awesome!
