Agreed. How can you change you opinion of a coach during the offseason?
Unless Whitlock decides Brian Waters is pissed off again.

I approve
Two of the best coordinators in the game want to coach for him and the top free agent running back wants to play for him. I’d say that’s pretty good
What the world needs is more geniuses with humility, there are so few of us left.
we should approve of him going to banquets and awards dinners

Whitlock Rocks!
hi, Mo!
5 minutes!!!
i wonder
what the approval rating was at the end of the year. im sure its on here somewhere but im lazy will someone find out??? it would be interesting to see if hes improved or not. seeing as there have been no games and hes not in charge of free agency you would think it would be the same.
Uhh
Look at the post…Monthly numbers dating back to April 2009 are in there.

I think there are more reasons than time.
Look at January. CRUSHING Denver was big there. All the polls have been up since then, plus adding the Weis/Crennel signings, and now finally FA. I have a feeling it’ll continue to do so until the draft, when people will freak out again.
I have to stick to my assessment from pre-season last year
I stated that they had to win 6 games for it to be an improvement. They didn’t. I blame coaching (mostly due to some concerns with style and playcalling), simple enough.
Now, in regards to today I voted “unsure”. It’s a new year and we’ll need to see how this plays out.
HOWEVER, if Haley starts going over everyone’s head (mainly Weis’/Crennel’s) and starts to go for it on 4th and “X” in the second quarter deep on our side of the 50 by putting Brodie in the punter position…I’m going to go for an epic “fail” on his coaching .

Just want to say one thing here.
Not debating your opinions anywhere else, however the statement about Haley “going over their heads” I don’t find to be correct. He’s the head coach, it’s not possible for him to go over their heads, they work for him. It may not be advisable, but in the end it’s his call. That said, yeah that’s not really a situation I want to see either.
Let me clarify
I was specifically referring to changing plays sent from upstairs. Usually head coaches alow the OC and DC make the call….with possibly a little input from the HC. Sticking to a game-plan devised during the week.
Let’s say Romeo or Charlie calls a play and Haley steps in and says “No…do x,y,z”…totally making an emotional based move early in the game (like he did last year although he was the OC)…I have a problem with that.
Yes, he’s the head coach, but considering some of the boneheaded 4th down plays he called last year if he makes those same kind of moves and calls in a “Veto”…I don’t think any of us are going to be happy.

And I get what you're saying Archyrr and think we're on the same page....I wasn't clear on my initial point.

I got it.
I was just cautious, I think there are some that are on the “Weis or Crennel will be our HC soon” so they might as well run the whole team now sort of thing.
As I’ve mentioned probably too many times, I was forced to experience most of the 2009 season via radio if at all, so I don’t have the same perspective as those who got to see the games. So I’m probably less critical of him and others than the norm.
I'm not one of those, btw.
I think Weis and Crennel are suited for the coordinator positions. I wasn’t too impressed with them as HC’s in either Notre Dame or Cleveland.
However, I’m still not convinced Haley is HC material as well….that remains to be seen and is too early to tell.

Too early to tell I agree...
But geez…some of the playcalling last year was highly questionable.

Haley is a gambler, like Sean Peyton and Bellichek, so get used to those type of “questionable” playcalls for as long as he’s here, hopefully for the next decade. Do you think the onside kick at halftime in the Super bowl was “questionable”? If it didn’t work, Peyton would have been fried, but a great coach has to have the courage to fail, and Haley does. It’s an awesome change from what was here before.
Do you agree on the 2nd quarter 4th down attempt on our 25 last year with the game tied?
We put Croyle back as punter as if it fooled ANYONE. Thats just insane.
The SB onside was different…that was a play that fooled everyone. Big difference.
There’s nothing to get used to in my opinion. If Haley pulls that mickey mouse crap with Crennel as OC, I don’t think it’ll be pretty on the side lines.

Correction Weis, not Crennel
….Weis is OC, Crennel is DC.
Regardless though, if Haley pulss any play stunts with these guys, I think they’ll alternate sitting on Haley.
