Redskins Hoping To Sign Former Chiefs RB Larry Johnson

Well, it appears former Kansas City Chiefs RB Larry Johnson may find a home after all.

According to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora, the Washington Redskins want him.

Redskins officials are picking up free-agent RB Larry Johnson at the airport this afternoon, according to team sources, and they are very much interested in signing him.

The Redskins are a very confusing option for LJ, at least in my mind. They've already got a veteran back in Clinton Portis with not much tread left on his tires.

La Canfora also confirms earlier reports that LJ has a Monday meeting with the Oakland Raiders.

Don't you think he'd like to line up against the Chiefs two times a year?

With LJ all you really have to do is two hand touch him on the ground...

When he falls after running into his RT…

True

But we’ll bang him up, let him know he’s not liked in KC and isn’t getting away unhurt :)

Does LJ ran a fast enough 40 to play RB for the Raiders?

Or fast enough for offensive or defensive line for that matter?

by Boots 58 on Mar 11, 2010 5:41 PM CST reply actions

No,

But Al is still probably pretty pissed about the Marcus Allen thing… he might this as a way to get back at us.

Are you sure?

It’s hard to tell since he just dives to the ground after running into the offensive line.

I'm just trying to think like Al.

Unfortunately I’m all out of sheep intestines to divine with, so I’ll just have to guess that since Al Davis is known as someone that can hold a grudge for decades, he’s probably thinking back to how we embarrassed him by getting Allen… and then using him to stomp their faces in.

And let’s not forget Dexter Mccleon played in Houston.

And

Babin came from Houston.

So barber, black, Gibbs, mccleon, pollard, and smith all went to Houston after here. Missing anyone?

but LJ does run good in a ZB scheme

he likes to do a one cut and then go, and thats what shanahan coaches well. I always said if LJ were to go to the broncos ( around the time preist was starting to go ) then he’d be dangerous.. but of course its not the same LJ anymore

KC attempted to run it but

the O-Line was in shambles do mainly to injuries. The O-Line never really came together (if at all) until the end of the season.

by ilamuku on Mar 11, 2010 6:00 PM CST up reply actions

well, KC did seem to have a RB that was able to run for 1100 yds behind those "shambles"

and he did so IMMEDIATELY after LJ was let go

that’s no coincidence

and LJ has no idea what the term “blocking” means

by upamtn on Mar 11, 2010 7:03 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Yes he does.

For most RBs, ‘blocking’ is what their O-Line does for them. However, for LJ, ‘blocking’ is what they do to him, because he has a tendency to run into them and fall down a lot.

by JacinB on Mar 11, 2010 7:53 PM CST up reply actions

I would discount this

If it were anybody but rat face. That guy is magic with RBs. He has something up is sleeve in Washington for next year. He released rock cartwright, probably because he is too small to run in Shanny’s program. He went through their lockerroom with a broad broom and wiped a bunch of people out. Look out for the Redskins. They may be running two RB sets this year and putting an RB in the slot a bunch.

by Aiken_Drum on Mar 11, 2010 5:49 PM CST reply actions

Yeah I agree Shanny is magical with RBs

There was a time where they could pluck a guy out of the stands and he’d become a 1000 yd rusher.

illegal cut blocks

do wonders for RBs

by kabrink on Mar 11, 2010 7:29 PM CST up reply actions

Cut blocks are legal

Only time it is illegal is if the defender is already engaged. I am sure they did make some illegal blocks, but you don’t have to look too far to see that from every team (many are not called).

Cut blocks are an important part of the ZBS. If our O-Line was as good at cut blocks as Denver’s OL was under Gibbs….watch out.

by Eric Allen on Mar 11, 2010 5:50 PM CST reply actions

Not going to be good

I am assuming Washington is going to implement a ZBS under Shanny. We already saw how effective that was for LJ.

by Nick Britt on Mar 11, 2010 6:07 PM CST reply actions

My long, drawn-out predictions that no one cares about, nor will bother to remember:

1. Todd Haley will still be the Chiefs Head Coach up to the 2011 season.
2. Clancy Pendergast won't make it to the 2010 season and was never intended to. Last-minute hire for a position that needed to be filled.
3. Todd Haley will not be the OC at the start of the 2010 season.

Zone blocking scheme or not

Washington’s oline is by no means in the same realm as the horses Shanahan was running with in Denver. Especially now that Samuels retired. He’ll end up being -2.7 with the Redskins.

its gotta be da shoes …

He’s always open. He catches a lot of balls. He’s un-guardable, no matter how old he is

by WarWolf on Mar 11, 2010 9:53 PM CST reply actions

If LJ is Washington’s feature back, he’ll go for over 1,000 next year. He has plenty left, as he showed in his one start for Cinn.
And unless they play us in the Super Bowl, I’ll be rooting for him to do well in every game. I’m not part of the hate LJ crowd, and I appreciate all the great work he did here. I’m glad we have Jamaal, and that he did so well, but I see no reason to hate LJ when he’s not here anymore.

by dablueguy on Mar 11, 2010 10:17 PM CST reply actions

I would be SHOCKED! 1,100 yds!

No need to hate LJ but he does not deserve any respect! Vermeil hit the nail on the head with his “diaper” comment. However, his careless comments about Haley were one of the best things to happen to us. I would be surprised if he touches 800 yards. I would love to see him on the Raiders so the Crenel defense can shut him up, oh wait, his oline will do that.

For BLANKS sake

I have been drinking, and honestly…LJ sucks, Herm sucked him dry, Carl was a monumental idiot for not trading him at his peak…we all saw it. Tell me you never said, “we should trade johnson now, while he is worth a first”…he has sucked since he signed a contract and he will continue to suck…because as long as he has money, he has no worries. he cares not about winning, but about playing a “real” bad ass banga…dude came from the suburbs, he is so damn fake it makes me puke. what kind of pussy hits a woman? honestly? And…he has the audacity to call out Haley for hanging out at country clubs, playing golf…FUCK Larry Johnson. It shall pain me if he signs with Washington, because we will not get to play him again before he it out of football. We just played the East…DAMMIT! I want him to sign with Oakland sooooo bad. I go to 1 game a year, and I will pay whatever it takes, sit on the visitor sideline, and heckle the living shit out of him.

Sorry for ranting.
