Colin Brown

With FA starting up obviously one of the big needs of this team is OL help...I personally would not be unhappy if a LT was drafted in the first round, sliding albert to guard, waters to center(or drafting a center)....but what about Colin Brown at guard? Does anyone know any good info on this guy?....On paper 6'7 335lbs. 24 yrs old....he's listed at G and I just wondered what the AP knew about his skill set and such...lost Wade Smith...Niswanger is a backup...I like OCally

I didn't realize Brown was 6 freaking 7

Monsta Mamma Jamma…Here’s to hoping he is able to make the 53 this season.

Indeed. Brown's a monster.

If the O-line wasn’t such an issue I’d joke about converting him to NT.

by Archyrr on Mar 11, 2010 10:16 AM CST up reply actions

and why would that idea be a "joke?" he's an athlete, he's big and strong, been playing the game for years, intelligent guy ...

right size, etc … I don’t see it as a huge “stretch” by any means

It wasn't really.

Heck, I don’t care if he played QB if it meant we won football games. Or anyone else at any position that is. If Vrabel can play TE, we can move others around. Didn’t we use a D-lineman as a FB last year too?

by Archyrr on Mar 11, 2010 10:26 AM CST up reply actions

Chris Mortenson just reported that Colin Brown never had surgery ... instead he was undergoing a lobotomy to transform him from a mild mannered OG to an insane beast NT

… by this “specialist” hired by Pioli …

Too bad it's Mort.

Brawls between him and Smith as they fought over the spot would be entertaining.

Certainly will be interesting how & where

Colin fits into this team. Nothing coming out of Chiefs HQ (surprise, surprise) on this guy. He had potential or he would’nt have been drafted. Maybe he’s secretly being trained by a Chiefs coach to be a quality…… oh whats the word…. Guard.
Let’s don’t forget he’s a homey too.

Scott Pioli's star will shine in 2010.
Win or lose, the Chiefs scare the bejesus of all opponents in 2010

by ChiefsChance on Mar 11, 2010 10:38 AM CST up reply actions

Exactly.

Doesn’t come across as the brightest guy, but I hope he does well, though I admit most of that’s cause I want the team to do well.

by Archyrr on Mar 11, 2010 10:39 AM CST up reply actions

Brown could be solid

He was a Beast RT at MIzz. Too bad he was injured last year. He is someone to keep and eye on during OTA’s and Pre-Season

Chiefs are going to surprise alot of people in 2010 !!!!

This guy

actually is from a small town north east of KC, Braymer,Mo. My kids live there during the week with thier mom. I do believe he did not expect to be drafted. I had to call my son to let him know. He jogs quite often in public there and everyone hollars and waves. Seems like a great guy. I think pioli saw potential in his size and of coarse Mizzou had a pass oriented offense. Could be a Lilja type guy. Hope he pans out.

Wait....Stop.....It is not hands that call us, tis desire.

by Bludragon on Mar 11, 2010 11:38 AM CST reply actions

Yup

The biggest knock on him was that he wasn’t very experienced as a run blocker coming out of Mizzou which was mainly a passing team. Was an OT there I believe.

If I remember correctly

I think he had experience at 4 positions on the o-line at Mizzou. I cant remember for sure which ones they were, but something about playing 4 spots sounds familiar to me. If he just makes the team, I’ll be happy. His versatility could be very valuable as a backup and his size would be fun to see on the kick return wedge.

The studs from the 2010 draft class will be: DT Ndamukong Suh, S Eric Berry, RB C.J. Spiller, RB Jahvid Best, WR Arrelious Benn, WR Golden Tate, WR Mardy Gilyard, OT Charles Brown, CB Kyle Wilson and S Chad Jones

He Played every position but LG

But reading his Bio’s he sounded more like a LG

by mcclanahanman on Mar 11, 2010 1:28 PM CST up reply actions

Considering

that hes more of a Pass Blocker..I’d have to agree.

You generally want your RG to be a monster Run Blocker.

by Petey14 on Mar 11, 2010 4:49 PM CST up reply actions

6'8" 330ish lbs.

If you’ve ever seen a picture of him he looks pretty slim.

The only concern i’d have for him at guard would be his height. Is he too tall to play that position? Would Shorter DLs get into his body too easily and drive him back?

Are we still going to run a zone-blocking scheme?

by Dono on Mar 11, 2010 11:49 AM CST reply actions

Athletic freak..

I played basketball against him in high school and he is very athletic and talented, he was an all state basketball player and had many offers to play in college but decided to walk on at mizzou for football and worked hard enough to earn a scholarship and eventually become a starter. I’ve heard rumors from my friends that know him and his brother that he could possibly be the starting guard for the chiefs this year. Hopefully he plays well enough to do so and help us out on the O-line.

Hate to chime in with realism

But I think Colin Brown is more likely to be on the practice squad than make the team.

There was some speculation that he was put on the IR to avoid sticking him on the practice squad last year.

We’ll see, hope I’m wrong. I remember reading that many teams didn’t have him on their draft board.

by kcsno56 on Mar 12, 2010 11:06 AM CST reply actions

Why the IR?

It only makes sense that the Chiefs put him on IR was because they were afraid he wouldn’t slip thru to the practice squad. I remember reading about him as a basketball player and he really must be pretty athletic.

by 89Otis on Mar 13, 2010 6:05 PM CST reply actions

He's huge

It would be awesome if Brown develops into something special. With the trend for getting bigger at the Guard positions, we need his size. The guy is a mammoth.
