Looking Ahead: The Chief's Offensive Line
Sooooo....Wade Smith has left the Kansas City Chiefs to join the Houston Texans. That leaves us with huge issues on the O-line...meaning we only have 5 8 OL left...everyone else was released or tendered and have been picked up by other teams. This would make Ikechuku Ndukwe as a starter at RG. We have a lot of room to make up on the OL before camp...where do you think they will come from?
Who is available in FA now that is worth picking up, and who would you like to see us Draft? (Think about it...I estimate that we need 12+ OL in Camp.)

well, my current list of "starters" are still in place
Albert, Waters, Niswanger, Ndukwe, O’Callaghan
Colin Brown might grab a spot this year
Barry Richardson could be a backup
But… YES… I would bring in Lilja to start at G, or one of the 2 “old men” at Center
I’d draft JD Walton for SURE, and probably an OT at some point… (NOT in the 1st)
* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* keep Albert at LT, upgrade the positions that NEED upgrading.C, RG, NT, S, LB
I think I'd go OG and OT
Mitch Petrus in the 4th and Jason Fox at 2b or 3, depending on where we take Troupe.

I'm not crazy about Petrus, I do like Fox
but, I could get onboard with that strategy
My favorite mid-to-late round OL include John Jerry, Ciron Black, Sergio Render and Marshall Newhouse

Render I could see as a LG, Cirion Black as a RT
Fox I’d rather see him as our RT and Petrus is more of a RG. Petrus is Stout as a bull, with his height I could see him playing backup center and RG for us, eventually moving into a starting role as he became more polished.
I think Fox has the ability to take O’Callaghan’s starting spot from him in training camp.
We could look at LT/LG’s next year, and Wisniewski or O’Dowd in the second, possibly the third depending on what kind of year they have.
I’d like Lilja as a back-up and possibly a starter next season and maybe one of the old centers for 2 yrs as a stop-gap until we can get a young guy in there.
But I’d really rather see us trade for one of those LT’s that should be in a zone blocking scheme, that’s struggling in another scheme.

We have more the 5 OL by my count
Branden Albert
Colin Brown
Darryl Harris
Ikechuku Ndukwe
Rudy Niswanger
Ryan O’Callaghan
Jermail Porter
Bary Richardson
Brian Waters
ya got that earlier... Brown on IR
Richardson…was he on IR or released?
Porter was picked up after season was over…correct? He slipped onto the roster virtually undetected.
So assuming these three are healthy and are still here at camp, and if we need approx 12 at camp that leaves 4 vacancies.
I’m thinking 1 FA before Draft, 2 Drafted (maybe only 1) and 2-3 UCFA’s
